ali3pt14 Posted September 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2011 I'm sooooo excited! So, just to double check...to board the ship, all I need is my set sail pass and ID/passport, correct? No other paperwork for an American traveling to the Eastern Carribean on FOS, right? Oh! And one more question...did I read somewhere that I should attach the cruise luggage tags to our suitcases even before we check it at the airport? Any other last minute suggestions? firefly333 Posted September 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Iv heard do not attached cruise tags until after you fly as it makes your luggage more of a target for theft. Not sure why you would attach them earlier? Just your set sail pass and passport and get your credit card ready to show at check in. I also bring a copy of any OBC I got verified on email with me too.

ali3pt14 Posted September 19, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Thank you for the speedy replies! I think the logic for the prior luggage tag attachment was to alert the airlines of your itinerary in the event they lose your luggage. Maybe not. It's probably best to heed your advice and wait until after!
DonnaK Posted September 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2011 As someone else mentioned, you also need to bring the credit card that you are securing your onboard account against. You should bring your driver's license too, because in some ports, you need photo ID to reboard the ship. I wouldn't affix the ship's luggage tags until after the flight, so it doesn't get confused with the airline's luggage tags. We take off the airline tags and put on the ship's tags between the flight and boarding.
cruiseguy1016 Posted September 19, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Do not attach your luggage tags until you are ready to give them to the porters. Too many tags only lead to confusion for the airline personnel. Once you get to your destination airport, remove the airline tags and attach the cruise ship tags. Rare silentbob007 Posted September 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2011 The tags could be useful if the bags are lost, but I think the disadvantages outweigh this advantage. The only other thing is that you'll probably have to do to check in is fill out a health declaration ... they will be available in the terminal. Jimnbigd Posted September 20, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2011 You'll need some cash of course, for when you are off the ship, and also in the ship's casino if you gamble. And take some $5's and $1's for tips to porters and room service. A copy of your passport is useful if you lose your passport (makes it quicker to get a new one, I hear). And I assume you are not taking children you do not have custody of, but if you ever do you need a notarized letter from their parent(s).
jagsfan Posted September 20, 2011 #9 Share Posted September 20, 2011 The chances are good the luggage tags would get ripped off if you check luggage with them on. I wouldn't worry about having them on causing theft, don't know why it would make a difference. I always put a sheet of paper on top inside of my checked bags giving my info including itinerary. If the airline knows where you'll be, it would expedite getting your luggage to you.
kimala Posted September 20, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 20, 2011 Make sure you Do not pack your boarding documents in your checked luggage (the ones you will be handing over to the Porters in front of the terminal) I usually designate a bag or large purse/carryall that I intend to carry on board with me and keep all my documents in there. copnlpn2 Posted September 20, 2011 #11 Share Posted September 20, 2011 I always print out a document listing my name, address, phone number, an emergency contact phone number and my entire cruise information, including name, address and phone number of my pre/post cruise hotel, along with complete information about my cruise - the name of the ship, the departure port and itinerary. I make copies of this document and leave one at home for family members. I also place a copy in each of my suitcases, where it can easily be found if my suitcase is opened. If one or more of my suitcases should get lost by the airline:eek::eek:, they won't have any problem making contact with me. (I must admit I'm a bit anal when it comes to things like this...so perhaps just including some basic information in your suitcase would be fine...)
