Emerald Beach

Thinking about going to Emerald Beach on our next trip to St. Thomas. Must you pay admission to the hotel for use of the beach and chairs? Do you email in advance, or just show up? Any opinions on this beach, can you buy lunch at the beach bar to have on the beach, or must you be dressed, and use the restaurant? Thanks in advance.

All beaches in the Vi are free access to all with the exception of Magens Bay Beach which is a park owned by the people of the Vi and charges admission for non residents. You just walk to one side of the Best Western hotel and you are on the beach. Your taxi driver will show you which path to take. There is a charge for chairs etc. The restaurant and bar are very good and are available to everyone. You can eat on the patio near the bar in your bathing suits. If you want to eat in the restaurant you should wear a cover up. The hotel will call a taxi for you if none are waiting when you want to return to the ship. Enjoy:)

Just to clarify: Magens Bay is part of a territorial park system (Smith Bay/Lindquist is the other beach). Residents and non-residents alike pay a fee which goes to maintenance, infrastructure, and personnel.

Emerald Beach is a short cab ride from Crown Bay. We were just there two weeks ago. They will drop you off at the Best Western Hotel. Just follow the path to the beach. Beach is quite and not crowded. Beach chairs are available for rent. Beach Bar and Patio are good. Burgers are large, you can split one with someone else. When you are ready to go back, there are usually cabs at the same place as you were dropped off.

The other place you are refering to is the Island Beachcomer Hotel on the right side of the Best Western Emerald Beach. It too has a good beach area and patio bar/grill. The waters edge on the Best Western side of the beach was rocky and dropped off. Do not know about the beach in front of the Island Beachcomer.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes, there are clean restrooms. The hotel restaurants/bars maintain the restrooms on their properties, but there's a public one that may or may not be maintained. You can use the restrooms at the hotels if you eat/drink there.

Silly question but to get there you catch and cab and tell the driver Emerald Beach and they know where to drop you off?

I still haven't decided what to do here; I was leaning towards and RCI trip to St John but now that I read this we may end up here. I just want to spend a few hours on a beach then go back to town and do a little shopping.
