Our Magic cruise, 12/4/11

Prior to the cruise, we decided to meet with some friends in Galveston for the day that the Conquest left to head over to New Orleans & stayed the night at my in-laws that night. The next morning, we got up early & meet with our friends again at the patio area (Some of the crazies were there too.) to watch the Magic come into Galveston for the very 1st time.

We walked through the Casino area & out to the atrium area where the shops are.

LOVE the extra places for sitting and people watching above the atrium!!! How was the hallway/passageway traffic? Did it bottleneck around shopping or photos or casino? That's always been a problem for Mom in the wheelchair...

We really liked having those extra seating places there. When getting pictures, we would go find them all & then sit & look at them. Made it nice. Sometimes it would bottleneck in the photo area for sure, the nature of how it's laid out I think. ?? Not around the Casino, it was done pretty good I think.

Our 2 suitcases were delivered to our cabin about 1:45 & our garment bag came later. We unpacked those & then headed out to explore a little more before the Safety drill. Our oldest will be in Circle C when we go, so we went by there for pictures. Deck 4.

We went to the atrium bar, as we needed to *finally* get our DOD, The Funship Special. Yum, as always!

We sat there for about 20 minutes talking with the bar tender & then we headed back to the cabin. Our garment bag was there then, so we unpacked it for the week. At this point, I'll admit, I was kind of tired as I had been up since 5:30 a.m. since I couldn't sleep past then with all the excitement. So we relaxed in the room & after a few minutes so this huge ship going by. Neat to look at for sure.

I should say, that we pick a starboard cabin so that we can see family at the patio as we leave. Our original plan was for my parents along with our 3 kids, to be there at the patio area to watch us leave at sail away time. But when they dropped us off that morning at the terminal, we made the decision for them to go on back home. We are glad they did as they had to go through some major downpour rain on the way back & we ended up leaving an hour later than scheduled.

Right at 4:00, we met our room steward, Ovi (Who was wonderful) & that's also when we had to head to our muster stations for the safety drill. Our location was the Southern Lights dining room, the entrance from Deck 4. This was pretty quick & we were back at our cabin about 4:30.

We went straight out to the balcony & we ended up seeing some very playful dolphins. One you could see just under the water swimming on his back before he/she would come up.

We noticed that the Mariner was dropping their ropes & about to head out before us. I ended up talking to one our friends that watches the webcam & they were curious as to why there was an ambulance & firetruck at the pier. I explained, that we had no idea, but that Mariner was leaving 1st. We later found out that someone had gotten injured.

There was a tug that stayed right by us the entire time that the Mariner was leaving.

And then, within a few minutes of the Mariner leaving, we dropped our ropes & started pushing away & backing up, which we would do until past the Ocean Star for the turn around point. We ended talking with the neighbor that had the aft wrap next to us, very nice & it turned out that they leave close to us.

Thanks for posting the pictures and writting the review. I too, was getting worried that the Magic was not going to be a great ship like the Conquest.

What kind of camera are you using? I love it that it is crisp.

Your welcome & Thank-you! It's a Nikon D40. I had it on the lower setting though, I forget to change it to a higher megapixel. Oops, LOL. Conquest was our 1st cruise, so She will always have a special place in our hearts. ;)

Kyrstin, I actually met and talked to Ana a bit one evening. Didn't know where on the ship she worked. What a shock to see a picture of her here.
