Latitudes and Points?

So if you book 9 months out you get additional points but if you are booked that far out and chase price drop(s) and you get one NCL creates a new invoice showing either your price change or OBC however the invoice has the new date so if your less than nine months out you won't get your additional points.

Has anyone experienced this?

When I think about this, I would think that it's logical that NCL would handle it that way - i.e., whenever people on CC talk about getting price drops before final payment, they say that NCL, in essence, cancels and rebooks the sailing at the new, lower rate with the promotions in effect at the time. That's why sometimes rebooking will give you a better base fare but a loss of OBC. It's always a matter of weighing the pros and cons. So, when taking advantage of a price drop in the OP's scenario, why wouldn't the same apply? NCL rebooks the passenger but the rebooking only gets the perks associated with a booking at that time, which would mean the loss of the 9-month Latitudes benefit. It sounds like we want to have our cake and eat it, too. Believe me, I wish it were that way for all of us, but I understand why it might not be.

I have another question regarding the 9 month thing. We are a party of 7 booked for November. We have already had to change our sail date because of the ship getting chartered out (but that all occurred before the 9 month deadline). However, one of the people in our party cannot go. When I called my NCL vacation specialist, he said to leave her on the booking until the final payment then take her off, just in case she changes her mind again. He says that it is always easier to take someone off, then to put them on. But will they have to "cancel our booking, and re-book"? If so, we will all lose our 9 month latitudes reward points....

Are the perk's really that great with moving up in points that it is considered having your cake and eating it too??

I would think if you re-book within 9 months you should not get them. We just re-booked and I do not expect to get the extra points. Can't have it both ways. In my humble opinion!

Your right can't expect it both ways. We are well above the Platinum Level so at this point it makes more sense to take the OBC and forfeit the additional points.

It might be a small cake, maybe a cupcake, but yes, I think the saying still applies. :D

And no to me its better to grab the OBC ,in this case it was $75 per week so if you price in the biggest perk which is dinner for two LeBistro equals $40 for two.

So I would use this as a measure as to whether or not to go for a price drop/obc or the points.

I don't know what the perk is for the 250 point level but at this point I'm happy with the Platinum perks as we've been Plat for awhile. And seeing that we always do b2b cruises thats four dinners at Le bistro

Indirectly....price went down and I suspected I would lose the suite 9 month out OBC but called to check anyway and Yes, if you get repriced and are not still 9 months out you will lose the suite OBC so it would follow if you lose the OBC because it is no longer 9 months out - you won't still get the extra points.

I have booked, and moved my sailing date to now past the 9 month window. I did recieve the bonus points for that sailing.

It appears to me, that they used my original point of purchase date as the starting point for the 9 months.

I wasn't expecting this, but I was pleasantly pleased.

Thank you NCL

Nice!

I booked 9 months out, but then upgraded my cabin which gave me a new invoice. I hope I can keep my double points. We shall see!

Is this a new policy? I always book a year in advance and have not acquired extra points.

Yes. This began with the re-vamped Latitudes program which started December 5th 2011:

http://www2.ncl.com/latitudes-rewards/frequently-asked-questions

If you had a cruse booked on 12-05-11 that was booked 9 months in advance of the sail date then you would earn an additional point for each night sailed.

I like the new Latitudes, but the 9 month in advance booking needs some work. when you first book you get a booking # if you change anything in your booking inside 9 months of you cruise do you get a new booking # or is it the same as your original booking? I don't think if NCL offers you an upgrade or upsell less then 9 months before your cruise that you should lose you extra points.

We just got back from our first cruise, booked with CAS, and joined latitudes. Because we booked 9 months out, we got 14 points each for a 7 day cruise, which is great, for a balcony room. We fell in love with the Epic, and are cruising again on the same ship, same itinerary in almost exactly 1 year from original sailing so we'll each get 14 more points.

Here's my question, (I know you good folks have more experience with this stuff): We are a gay couple, same address etc, different surnames, different latitudes numbers. I assume we'll both be eligible for whatever perks our level allows? Such as when we get to the level that offers a free bottle, we'll each get one, and a free dinner for 2, we'll each get one, giving us each a free dinner for two, netting us 2 free dinners for two on each cruise? Both of us are showing 14 points each in our latitudes accounts, each of which have different latitudes numbers.

I also noted that once you hit platinum I think, the laundry service is complimentary, which I really like. We got a deal at $24.95 for a full bag of laundry one day - the steward was really cool, told us about the deal the day before when we wanted laundry done and said to stuff the hell out of the bag.

Thanks for your forthcoming answers and any other advice you may offer. I do appreciate it!

Yes, once you reach Platinum status, each of you will receive the dinner for two. And each of you will receive the complimentary laundry bag special. You'll also each get the Behind the Scenes tour. However, there are certain items that will be "per cabin", like the free bottle of wine, the fruit basket, and the chocolate-covered strawberries.

P.S. You do get a complimentary bottle of wine at each of your free dinners.

I lost the bonus points after booking 18 months in advance and then "rebooking" 7 months out to change categories. Was told that the FAQs explain that but I sure don't see it anywhere.

Interestingly enough, we are in the same boat. Booked a Sept. 2015 cruise over 9 months ago, late 2014. But it didn't come with any OBC or the free UDP/UBP options. Now we are looking at the recent freebies included in bookings, and are considering rebooking....but then we lose our 9month lattitudes points. Decisions, decisions....

I'm trying to figure out the same. I booked in late December for an October sailing. There were Latitudes reduced fares but at the time, it wasn't combinable with the Freestyle Choice promo. Then a couple weeks back, they loosen the restriction, so I called up a few weeks ago to "refare."

I'm not sure how precise they are with the 9 months for the bonus points. If they are counting a month as 30 days, I'd just miss it by 5 days if the clock goes from rebook to the first day of sailing. I called NCL and the rep seemed to think I would still get the bonus. Some old posts on here are saying they are strict.

I sent an email out to the latitudes clerical email with the question. Someday I might have an answer, but the auto reply said response times take 6-8 weeks :(

We found out the hard way that it works by calendar day. For example, if you're sailing on October 30th, then 9 months is January 30th. I booked a cruise in 2012 for 2013 and was told I'd make the 9 month rule because the PCC was counting days. I would have moved to the following week, but was assured I didn't need to.

I've also had my reservations "edited" instead of rebooked, keeping my original booking date, but I'm guessing this is one of those "don't expect it and be happy if it happens" things.

I try to figure this out, also. We have a TA booked July 18 for April 19. The nine months shouldn't be an issue; however, I rearranged the booking once a preferred cabin became available. I was actually taking a 14 day and splitting it into 11+3 as the room was available for the 11 day. My PCC was away so I talked to another, and he said I'd have to do a total rebooking so I left it alone. My PCC returned and she changed the 14 day to 11 with new cabin (plus the higher cost) but kept the original booking date. I've upgraded once more (no cost as prices dropped) and my original date remains. On the 3 day portion, the price dropped 4 times. Each required a rebooking with a new date. Others on that cruise have been able to rebook at lower costs or upgrade for free (sometimes with refund) AND get the freestyle promo as we're still outside final payment. I'm pretty sure they were given new booking dates.
