Birthday during cruise, question

My daughter is turning 18 during our cruise this summer. I was thinking of decorating the room and door. Is this something we can do on or own? If so, I will pick up a few decorations before the cruise. Any great ideas or recommendations? Her b-day is towards the end of our cruise. Thanks in advance!

Carnival will do this for you - they do it before you arrive. I think it's $35. I did for DH once. It was fun to walk into the room all decorated. I think you just order through the website under bon voyage gifts and services

CCL can do it or you can do it on your own. You can also order her a cake on the ship. If you tell your waiter on the night of her birthday they will bring a few waitstaff to your table and sing Happy Birthday to her also.

My kids are turning 18 during our Thanksgiving cruise and I plan on having Carnival decorate the room with these

we did it for a friend on my girlscruise and it really does look nice. I know its $35 but the surprise alone when she opened the door was worth every penny and the best part is you don't have to bring the stuff and take the time to decorate the room. Thats time away from sitting & relaxing :)

If my DD were turning 18 on a cruise, I'd want to decorate myself so I could make it personal. :D But, if you want to have Carnival do the cabin decorations to save you time and luggage space, you could decorate the door if you're wanting to do something more personal than the Carnival decorations.

I turned 40 toward the end of our cruise a few years ago (OK- more than a 'few' years ago!) and my hubby and daughter arranged for Carnival to decorate the cabin while I was lazing with a book on the Lido Deck. My hubby ordered it in advance and just told our cabin steward what day and time he wanted it set up. When we all went back to our room to get ready for lunch it was all decorated for me! A really nice surprise.

Also, they brought me a cake and sang Happy Birthday to me in the MDR that night.

Our DS turned 21 during our Alaskan cruise last May. I brought decorations that I found at the dollar store. I used removable tape and decorated the room while he was still sleeping the morning of his birthday. I also brought some of those jelly like decorations and put them on the balcony door and the mirror in the bathroom.

We ate at the steakhouse for his birthday and they brought him a cupcake with a candle. It seemed like everyone wished him a happy birthday that day.....not sure how some of them knew, but it had him laughing that his pitcure must have been passed out at the morning briefing. LOL :p

Thanks everyone for the great recommendations. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to post some really awesome ideas. One more question, if she turns 18 towards the end of the cruise, does she have to wait until that day before she can visit age appropriate places on the ship.....like casino, serinity, dancing, etc.

You can decorate your door and room for much cheaper than what you would get from the Bon Voyage department plus it will have that personal touch.Just sneak away on the day of your daughter's birthday.

I decorate our door for every cruise for less than $10.00 and I get our stuff from Dollar Tree or Party City

Here are our door decorations from our last two cruises:

Sorry to say but serenity and casino is 21. I don’t know about the night clubs.

I just checked and you must be 18 for casino and night clubs; however, since she will be 17 when the cruise starts, she will receive a wristband on the first day of the cruise.

I love the door decorations! Thanks for posting the pictures. Makes it easier to find your room.

Not sure how it works for turning 17 to 18, but I can relate our experience for our son turning 21 during the cruise.

Anytime he tried to order a beer or a mixed drink prior to his birthday, he was asked for his ID. After his birthday, he was never asked......again, he joked that his picture was posted at the morning briefing. LOL
