TXFrank Posted June 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2012 With a little time to stroll the area, what recommendations for restaurants, pubs, shoping, etc in the Gaslight District would you recommend? If other "don't miss" options are close to Canada Place, please mention those as well.
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted June 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2012 I am interested in this, too. We are staying near there.

Urban trekker Posted June 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Here's a link to the Gastown not Gaslight web site: http://www.gastown.org/ Enjoy Cheers Dennis
Appygirl Posted June 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Little in the way of tourist attractions within walking distance. This is a shopping and business area within walking distance. Gastown is always interesting to wander around. I like the Old Spaghetti Factory when I'm down there but if you don't like pasta and sourdough bread then skip it. http://www.oldspaghettifactory.ca/ Just keep wandering around until you find a restaurant or pub that looks good to you. There are plenty. Or walk up to Robson Street, a few blocks away. Lot of boutiques and eating places there.
Glaciers Posted June 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2012 It's been a few years but after exploring Gastown we stopped for a beer and dinner at Steamworks Brewing Company. Food and beer were very good at the time although it was the outside seating that brought us in after a lot of walking on a warm day. Gastown! Thanks scottbee... scottbee Posted June 19, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Gaslight District: San Diego Gastown: Vancouver in Gastown, I would throw recommendations out for Steamworks [brew] Pub, The Alibi Room (pub) and also for Boneta http://boneta.ca/ for higher end fare. TXFrank Posted June 19, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Thanks for all of the corrections ..... for some reason it was easier to say Gaslight than Gastown!! :o
indigosails Posted June 19, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2012 We ate at Sitar http://sitarrestaurant.net/. It was pretty good. Not the best Indian food we'd ever had, certainly not the worst either.

Putterdude Posted June 19, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Some other good dining spots in Gastown are the Water Street Café and Al Porto. A couple of shops worth visiting are Canadian Maple Delights, Rogers Chocolates, Hudson Trading, Hill's Indian Art, as well as a couple of cigar shops that carry (dare I say) Cuban Cigars. Don't forget the obligatory photo in front of the Steam Clock and the statue of Gassy Jack. While not really part of Gastown a lot of people do enjoy going up to the Vancouver Lookout which is part of Harbour Centre. www.waterstreetcafevancouver.ca/ http://www.alporto.ca/ www.mapledelights.com www.rogerschocolates.com www.hudsonhousetrading.com http://www.hills.ca/Hill-s-Native-Art-Gallery-Vancouver-18.html www.vancouverlookout.com/
fleckle Posted June 19, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 19, 2012 For a pre-cruise walking tour of the area, see this thread with 4 pages of daliflor's great Vancouver photos ***PHOTO Vancouver walking tour Unless you have an interest in the Renaissance Harbourside, just scroll down past the hotel photos at beginning of the first page to where the photos of the walking tour begin. Pittypatbr Posted June 22, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 22, 2012 One of the bellboys at Pan Pacific recommended Rogue, which is only a few blocks from Canada Place. It was kind of a young trendy looking place but had the best hamburgers we have ever had! Price wasn't too bad, comparatively.

Rogue is in the Waterfront Station complex (where the subway comes in from the airport), a couple of blocks east of Canada Place itself. It is also owned by the same people who own Steamworks, which is another ½ block east.
Putterdude Posted June 22, 2012 #15 Share Posted June 22, 2012 The Rouge Wet Bar and Kitchen was in fact a Steamworks pub but was re-branded about 2 or 3 years ago.
