sgriff17 Posted May 16, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2005 :D He he...seriously though. do you all usually have a set budget or kind of just roll with the punches for shipboard purchases? Im just curious as to how others do it. my fiance has agreed to only "lose" 20/day in gambling and yes, we smuggle alcohol on board...so we spend maybe 50/day while ON the ship for various things. KruznKel Posted May 16, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2005 LOL whatever he wants cause he will pay for his share.... I know what I spend.. anything over and above is his responsibility... if he doesnt pay then he doesnt get to buy his toys like dvds games and all that when he comes home... hey I just bought him a laptop for the cruise LOL I think he damn well better own up to his expenses..... weswas Posted May 17, 2005 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2005 WE both spend whatever we want. Its vacation!!! I never tell him no and he wouldh't dare tell me no :) We usually spend about 1000 just on the ship and about the same at ports (total spending about 2000) Keep in mind wehave 4 daughters and a grandson so we tend to buy for them while away
Wennfred Posted May 17, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Well Im the Husband here, and I think 20. is not enough to gamble, I think 100.00 is good but every other night, you need a bank roll to gamble and 20. doesnt cut it. We both share the spending, we talk about it first and then go for it. Also it helps to divide the Loot so that there isnt any problems, except her Loot goes faster LOL. gogetter Posted May 17, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Hello, The way i look at it is this.......i will spend whatever i want. I save all year for a cruise...i use coupons, i don't splurge on things during the year.....i save, so when i go on a cruise i splurge. if my wife or i want a 22 bottle of cheap (*& Beringer wine that costs $22 on the ship, of which it can be bought in a grocery store for $5, then we buy it...captive audience...like DISNEY. As far as gambling....$100 a day is a good start...a good bankroll, because that allows you to lose some...and then hopefully get on a winning streak....but then again...it is entertainment.... basketballmom Posted May 17, 2005 #9 Share Posted May 17, 2005 He can spend as much as he wants since he is paying the Sign and Sail bill this cruise! Of course I will do my fair share to contribute to the total;)
marlaj4 Posted May 17, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 17, 2005 LOL! This will be our first curise and I keep telling my husband we need to set a limit. I'm also considering making him have his credit card on his sign and sail card and vica versa.
sgriff17 Posted May 17, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted May 17, 2005 OMG, my fiance hijacked my name and posted that, darn her! HA Oh yes, I gamble atleast 50. No point in even showing up with 20, ya know? Might as well hand it to the croupier and walk back to the cabin. Mrs Sgriff17 sure is the little character, isnt she?:D
L2J Posted May 17, 2005 #12 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Limits are set. $150 p/p per day. Casino, beverages, purchases. Anything won in the casino goes in my pocket :D
sgriff17 Posted May 17, 2005 Author #13 Share Posted May 17, 2005 You have it completely backwards. Well, I would NORMALLY tend to agree! However, she's worked her butt off so I could finish my degree...again.... But now it's my turn to work my butt off while she gets her Doctorate. What fun. We'll be broke till we're YOUR age Tef :D

halos Posted May 17, 2005 #16 Share Posted May 17, 2005 This is so funny. We don't have limits...but this is because we don't spend a lot on the ship except at the bar and for excursions. We both gamble very little...maybe pass through the casino once during a weeks cruise and drop $20 each...that's it. I don't use the spa...so that isn't an issue...and I never buy souvenirs...just not into that stuff....I am extremely practical. I do spend a good amount on photos and I take a lot of pictures as well. I think on our last cruise which was the 4 of us, out S&S bill was a little over $1000 for the week. That was all bar & excursions.

sgriff17 Posted May 17, 2005 Author #18 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Ok now, I need to stick up for myself. I am the soon to be Mrs. Griff and like my fiance said, he has been in school for the past 2 years while working part time, so I have been paying the bills, rent, etc on a 1 salary job. We are doing a lot for our HM, since it will be a total of 19 days, so setting a limit of $100/day is just outrageous for me to even think about since. Unfortunately, our combined income probably is even lower than the average salary, so... I also have to say, he tends to also drink a bit more than I do. I just enjoy being on the ship and relaxing. And NO, I definitly do not go overboard on shopping. On our last cruise on the Triumph, I got a shirt in St. Marten that costs $15, so... Yeah we leave for our wedding destination tongiht! I can't wait! :o :D
KruznKel Posted May 17, 2005 #19 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Well I wish you all the best on the upcoming wedding... go and enjoy.. worry about the bill from the cruise after you get home and open all the presents LOL maybe you will have enough money as gifts to pay for it .... Nliedel Posted May 17, 2005 #20 Share Posted May 17, 2005 We set a budget but we are pretty much of one mind spending wise, except for his collection of cheap T-shirts from the vendors in port. If he sees a "3 T-shirts for 10 bucks" sign he gets 20. Those things get holes likem you would not believe. We do budget tho, we have to.
DreadPirateRobert Posted May 17, 2005 #21 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Gee if DW ever started talking about limits I think we'd have to re-visit our cruise arrangement. The present deal is that she gets a fairly substantial piece of jewelery on every cruise. I doubt she is going to want to do anything which upsets the status quo. ;)
KruznKel Posted May 17, 2005 #22 Share Posted May 17, 2005 I wish I had unlimited funds... but considering last year we bought our house in June... I made my SO get rid of his leased car and he bought a used car (costs less then the cruise)...I decided we were going on the cruise in January this year.. everything will be paid for before xmas which I like.. then I have another 2mths to save for the ship... We are using a CC will have some small bills for tipping and offshore stuff if we decide to do that... but I am expecting around 1000-2000 on my CC from the cruise over and above air and hotel... not cheap LOL but it will be will worth it!!! Telegalc Posted May 17, 2005 #23 Share Posted May 17, 2005 We have always just gone with the flow....some cruises we spend on one some on the other and some on both...;) We are always to busy to hit the casino.. so that is no problem. Every cruise is different. You meet different people visit different places so hey who cares as long as you do not get yourself into a bind..:( That would be terrible. My husband and I always just try to take care of each other... scary huh!!!
KruznKel Posted May 17, 2005 #24 Share Posted May 17, 2005 LOL not scary tis the truth with US... the SO has money he spends spends spends,, not that he doesnt have the cash for it.. but if I dont ask he won't tell.. So I must watch the wallet.. overall I will be the big spender on the cruise since I drink and he doesn't LOL
4boys4mom Posted May 17, 2005 #25 Share Posted May 17, 2005 This is priceless...for the sign and sail...there's mastercard...:p But seriously...we know about what we spend from past cruises so we EACH "submit a budget request" figure how much we need to save each day between now and the cruise and save accordingly... of course I save from the grocery, gasoline, and house money and he saves from his "allowence", hey we've got 4 college funds to fund, but we live by the budget just like always.
