Nude Sun Bathing

Recommended Posts

I don't get what the big deal is really. I'm almost positive those who enjoy sunbathing in the nude don't do it for the viewing enjoyment of those around them. They do it because it's comfortable and liberating.

There was a woman tanning topless on our Allure cruise last year. It caught our eye because it was so unexpected (especially at sail away). She wasn't someone we woud oogle over either but we didn't care. We had full cups of frozen mojitos in front us that were far more concerning than a topless sunbather.

This thread amplifies why we love our Lumix waterproof camera with the 5x optical and 15 x digital zoom, "interesting" shots from far away.:D:eek:

Additonally, we always go to Club O on St. Martin and go natural. No cameras allowed there.

Didn't you know that there are now tiny digital camera fake fingernails, earrings, toothcaps, etc?:D

I still think modesty should prevail around the Solarium, unless it is specifically designated by Royal Caribbean as a nudity-permitted area.

I´m wondering what happened to all the posts I keep on reading on CC, especially on the dress code threads, saying

" Hey don´t worry about a dress code - wear whatever you want "

" It´s your vacation - wear what you are comfortable with "

" You paid as much money for the cruise as everybody else, so do whatever you are comfortable with "

" It´s your vacation, do whatever you please "

" Nobody will care about what you wear "

" Mind you own business and don´t let your cruise experience be ruined by what someone else wears "

Seems like all those arguments are used quite selective:rolleyes:

Well, you're "assuming" that the people who are fine with nudity are the same ones that want the dress code enforced. In my case, I believe the dress code should be followed and that there shouldn't be any nudity onboard in public spaces.

I also love all the people saying that "in Europe" nudity is fine. That is not entirely true and just as we American's ask that we not be painted with a broad brush, we need to do the same for Europeans. Nudity is not widely accepted in Europe, not in all countries and most certainly not in a lot of locations. It's very common on BEACHES in a lot of Europe, but not widely accepted elsewhere.

Last December on the Celebrity Millennium there was a very attractive young blond female who took it upon herself to sunbath topless. The issue it seems (other than the fact that it is against the rules, period) was the location she chose to do the deed: alongside the jogging track on Deck 11 aft and in wide open plain view of the indoor/outdoor Shipmates Fun Factory for kids. Security was called up twice to warn her to put on her bikini top because the first time after they left she took it off again it and went back to being topless. The final time security asked to get dressed and leave.

Sorry to disagree with you. but I am French Canadian and my culture DOES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH NUDITY! Where did you get that silly information??? Anyway, you do not seem to know much about French Canadian culture, so maybe better not to say anything!!!

Yeah, nice try. I got the info from my francophone friends. Maybe it's just anglophone french Canadian's that have the problem with nudity. You seem to be out of the loop with your own culture, time to get out more, or try participating in a public tuition protest......where nudity seems to be the norm......in public.

Thinking public nudity is okay does not make anyone the "cool kid". The fact is, it is not allowed on the ships. There are beaches in a couple of places in the Caribbean that allow partial or full nudity, but those are the exceptions. Even in the Med you will not see it everywhere.

I do have an issue with those who think they are the cool kids berating people because they don't agree with public nudity.

It's not about being "cool" or not "cool", it's a personal belief.

I think you're a tad too sensitive, I haven't witnessed any "berating" on this thread.

A woman in New York has the right to be topless at any place where a man may be topless, as long as she is not engaging in commerce.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the TV news stations covered this as two young women excercised their right to go topless. They walked in various places where men go topless. It didn't matter if children were present or not. They weren't harrassed by the police because it's legal.

You rarely see this at the public beaches but legally, every beach in NYS is topless.

Women in Ontario have the same rights. Now that's what I call progress.

I'm guessing you've never been to Haulover Beach during the winter. Just look at the license plates in the parking lot....the majority from Quebec. French Canadians greatly outnumber Americans during the high season.

Ships that once offered it, had many changes...adding water slides, adding other venues, etc. This really eliminated the ability to provide an area that was not available to public view.

There may have been the "prude" factor as well, but on European itineraries, it is not unusual and with so many ships now splitting time between the Caribbean and Europe (as well as everywhere else in the world) it was just easier to not have a designated area.

There is devious side to the Solarium story...Some are saying it was RCI's devious method to drive folks to the bars inside the ship....to drown out the image of what they had seen on deck.

OUCH!!! Nude waterslide!!!

Thanks for pointing that one out.

I really don't think anyone saying "Europe" means anything else but the beaches in this case anyway

But actually what you are saying is not quite accurate. Everywhere I've been in Europe (where it's actually warm enough to sunbathe at all) topless sunbathing is fine. Nudity is not. We do not flinch or think our children will be traumatized if they see naked people, though. That is very different from Americans. (generalizing here, obviously)

Some of the AIDA-Ships - AIDA-DIVA for example (part of the carnival-company) have a designated nude sunbathing area.

There is a full "nude" charter for the Carnival Freedom in 2012 and in 2013 too

And the "Mein Schiff 1" has a nude sunbathing deck too.

Wendy

I wonder what they'll wear on formal nights on Carnival Freedom :eek::rolleyes:

I believe that some of the NCL ships still have a "freestyle deck" (clothing optional) - I remember a thread on the NCL board about nudity on the ship a few weeks ago, and some passengers reported this deck still exists on some of the NCL ships.

Yes, apparently still exists on some NCL ships. Per cruisers the sign going up to the "Freestyle Deck" shows "adults only clothing optional":

The name "Freedom" must appeal to nudists, because when I was looking for that freestyle sign picture again I saw that there are also some nude cruises on RCI's Freedom of the Seas Nov 11-18, 2012 and November 10-17, 2013 ;)

But it also looks like the FOS sailing is not 100% completely nude, because the TA website shows these stipulations by decks:

CLOTHING OPTIONAL:

1) Clothing optional is permitted from deck 11 upward for the sundeck

2) conference room area

3) pool and hot tub areas as well as hallways

Topless is fine for:

1) Disco

2) Ice Skating rink

Clothing is required for:

1) Dining rooms

2) Elevators

3) Casino

4) Shopping mall

5) Promenade

6) Lobby area

Silly I know, but for some reason LOL picturing the "Topless OK" for ice skating. Every time we sailed RCI you had to wear long pants to skate, so long pants still..... and topless?

Gee, it's too bad, but it seems nude cruises are not for me. I'm too old, too fat, too shy, too chicken :o

My experience is French Canadians just like to argue.

Totally kidding, I can't let my one coworker create a stereotype.
