Tina.w12 Posted September 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2012 I am thinking of booking a P&O cruise for the Caribbean and I will need to buy DH a Dinner Jacket. Does anyone wear white jackets or is everyone in black?
BrianI Posted September 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2012 Many do wear white dinner jackets especially in warmer climates Brian
HomelessBear Posted September 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2012 I've seen some white jackets on formal night on men (our friend wears one and looks very dapper). DH got a great dinner suit from M&S at a very reasonable price. Material was very good quality but not too thick or heavy (good for the flight weight restrictions). Its a black suit of course but looks very smart.
annieuk Posted September 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2012 On all the Caribbean cruises we have been on the vast majority of men were wearing black dinner jackets with a smattering of cream ones. Cream certainly wouldn't look out of place if you prefer to buy one.

Denarius Posted September 19, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2012 The proportion of white DJs seems to depend on the number of regular cruisers. They tend mainly to be worn by the old hands who cruise frequently enough to justify buying a jacket which, whilst totallly appropriate for a cruise or dinner in warm climes, would be out of place at a black tie dinner in Britain. simonpjd Posted September 20, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 20, 2012 I wear a white DJ and my wife thinks it looks fine. But I am thinking of investing in a black one too - they are v cheap at M&S - my father bought one there before doing a Cunard transatlantic cruise where he wore it every night. And it was good. ovccruiser Posted September 20, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 20, 2012 I beleive, technically, a white DJ should only be worn in the tropics. I wear mine when I want :D:D
Freecall Posted September 20, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 20, 2012 The puritans tend to look down their noses at such things considering them 'common'.
sez809 Posted September 20, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 20, 2012 My hubby wears a white DJ on cruises, as my Dad handed it down to him!! (Dad no longer cruises, as now a widower.) Hubby also wears the aforementioned M&S dinner suit, an absolute bargain IMHO. I am hoping he will get the occasion to wear both on our Canary Isles cruise next summer, our first with P&O! jeanlyon Posted September 21, 2012 #13 Share Posted September 21, 2012 Yep, my husband wears a white - well cream DJ. He looks very smart in it.
Starbright Posted September 22, 2012 #14 Share Posted September 22, 2012 My husband had a black dinner jacket and a white one. He used to wear the white one in hotter climates such as the Caribbean. He was by no means the only person wearing a white jacket.
Britboys Posted September 22, 2012 #15 Share Posted September 22, 2012 That's basically what I do Starbright but I will wear the cream one in any hot climate, including the Med.
