cb8 Posted October 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Hello. I am heading on The Allure in December and I have a question. This may be a stupid question due to the other half flapping about currency. I am wondering ( the mrs ) about the currency they will take at the ports. I have known in the past the ports will take US $. The ports of call are : Labadee - Haiti Falmouth - Jamaica Cozumel - Mexico Is it wise to take some local currency ? Many thanks

Mark_K Posted October 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Pretty much for all of the Caribbean - Unless you really get out of the tourist areas, the worst case would be buying something with cash and getting your change in the local currency. MedicKen Posted October 22, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2012 It's not that stupid a question. I'm going to Bermuda, St. Thomas, St. Martin and San Juan and not that sure, so thanks for asking! The Bermuda Dollar and US$ are on par and both are accepted, St. Thomas is a US Territory and thus the currency is UD$, St. Maartin/ St. Martin is both Dutch and French but the UD $ is accepted there as well. cb at sea Posted October 22, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2012 And, Labadee is RCI's private beach....it's just like being on the ship there. Everything except the "straw market" will be charged to your seapass account.

TBone2K Posted October 22, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Although both sides of St. Martin take US dollars, their "dollar" is actually higher value. If you are shopping on your own, make sure you look for places that take US$ at par. Most of the good shops will do this. However if you buy anything on your credit card, you might not get as good a deal because they have to charge you in Euros/Guilders.
