ladymadeline Posted November 1, 2012 #76 Share Posted November 1, 2012 Too bad you were delayed getting to the JFK Library. We felt we barely had enough time there. Hope you are enjoying Boston.
JPR Posted November 1, 2012 #77 Share Posted November 1, 2012 In Charleston off the Navigator last April, we had a delicious dinner at McCrady's (where George Washington ate, though in the upstairs area that is now for banquets). Great dark and relatively quiet atmosphere. Highly recommended. Check out the reviews on OpenTable's website.
Bfson Posted November 2, 2012 Author #78 Share Posted November 2, 2012 They have added a day in Norfolk instead of one of the sea days. My wife is thrilled as she will get to visit Jamestown. Newport is amazing-the wealth is stunning.
Rare RachelG Posted November 2, 2012 #79 Share Posted November 2, 2012 Norfolk is an outstanding choice. Jamestown is really interesting. If you have extra time, the Casemate Museum is worthwhile for military history. Also the botanical gardens are nice though I don't know how they would be looking right now. Williamsburg is further and a whole day to itself, so can't do that and Jamestown both.

Bfson Posted November 3, 2012 Author #81 Share Posted November 3, 2012 New storm heading up the east coast. Forecast says rain for Charleston and the sea day after that. Up to .7 inch expected in Charleston. Sigh.....
jhp Posted November 4, 2012 #82 Share Posted November 4, 2012 Have been enjoying your posts along the way Bfson, you never know what you will get on the east coast in the fall, and you've been a good sport! Being from the Maryland coast, who was largely spared from Sandy, I am getting stressed as that new storm will come to me after I leave for another Regent cruise! In Europe, where all is fine and dandy.
Bfson Posted November 4, 2012 Author #83 Share Posted November 4, 2012 I'm up early watching the sun rise over the glass like waters of Norfolk. Looks like a great day, especially since there is caviar at breakfast!
ridolphi Posted November 4, 2012 #84 Share Posted November 4, 2012 Agree with JHP your posts have been fun to follow. We, too are leaving for a cruise this evening and are a little worried about the upcoming weather. Thanks for taking the time to bring us along. Olivia - see you onboard. Bfson Posted November 5, 2012 Author #85 Share Posted November 5, 2012 On our way to Charleston. Sunny slightly cool day. BBQ on deck. Folks in shorts. But tomorrow in Charleston the forecast is 80 percent chance of rain.
pingpong1 Posted November 5, 2012 #86 Share Posted November 5, 2012 As a very good friend of mine always likes to remind me, "It never rains inside of a bar" ((unless it's an outside bar, of course)) :)
Rare RachelG Posted November 6, 2012 #87 Share Posted November 6, 2012 Did you see the USS Enterprise coming into Norfolk yesterday? It was completely its last voyage, and a good friend's son was aboard.
Bfson Posted November 6, 2012 Author #88 Share Posted November 6, 2012 We are in Charleston. We got a break, finally. No rain! Cool and overcast but no rain. Rachel, the Enterprise came in before we did but we saw her on our tour of Norfolk.
whatnot Posted November 7, 2012 #89 Share Posted November 7, 2012 Hope the cool weather and overcast did not spoil your time in Charleston. It is a very fun city with lots to do and fabulous restaurants. We have a condo there near the Aquarium. If your weather wasn't bad then you should have had a nice visit because you do not want to go there in the summer with the heat and humidity and the thousands of tourists. We really enjoy the fall, winter, and early spring there. What did you do there?
Bfson Posted November 7, 2012 Author #90 Share Posted November 7, 2012 I have been to Charleston 5 or 6 times. ( I used to teach at the National Advocacy Center at USC.) Today we did the bus tour (for my wife) and then had a wonderful lunch at my favorite place, Hominy Grill.
Bfson Posted November 7, 2012 Author #91 Share Posted November 7, 2012 Yes, it's still there. Saw it all morning. Heading for Canaveral.

Bfson Posted November 9, 2012 Author #95 Share Posted November 9, 2012 One final note. Flying home was easy, flights early or on time. Friend picked us up in our car. Then, in the rain, the car dies on the freeway. AAA tows us to the Toyota dealer, friends pick us and our luggage and get us home. It's 3am on our body clock when we get home. Somehow it seems fitting.
