It's good that you will be in Halifax; we were told on our recent Nav stop there that it's one of the safest harbors in the world. We were greeted with 2 bagpipers--but maybe with the wind they'll opt out.:p

we are in Sydney after a very rough night. Don't know if it was caused by Suzy or just an often rough patch of water. Today is cold and rainy but we are having a great time.

 

The captain has announced that we will spend 2 days in Halifax. Boston may be skipped. No word on Newport. Tuesday and Wednesday are the days they say the storm will hit up here.

 

Does that mean that you're now in Halifax? Please keep everyone posted as the amended ship's itinerary. Thanks.

We are in Sydney, NS. Tomorrow and Wed we will be in Halifax. Beyond that we will have to wait and see how much damage, if any, Newport and NYC have suffered.

Captain just said we are leaving Sydney on time in 30 minutes heading for Halifax. They say it will be a rough segment. All day Tuesday and Tuesday night in Halifax. Leave Halifax Wednesday at 9am.

That means only a half day in Boston and then on to Newport on schedule. This is all subject to revision. Captain called it plan A.

I hope the weather in Halifax is not too horrible to enjoy some of the sights! Stay safe--over here in Toronto people are lined up at the supermarkets buying food and water. Power outages and downed trees expected, hopefully nothing worse.

They weren't kidding about rough seas. Some of the big swells are breaking on the bow and sending heavy spray up to the 9th floor. We are rocking and rolling. I keep thinking about all those fine wine glasses sitting in Compass Rose (by the way, the wine glasses in CR are better and larger than those in Prime 7.)

We were on the Montreal-NYC cruise 3 weeks ago. We were offered to swap our suite for a better one on the longer 10/24 cruise at the same price. I turned it down. Given the situation with hurricane Sandy, I'm sure glad I did! Stay safe -- try to enjoy Halifax and the rest of cruise south off New England as Sandy dissipates as the week goes on.

I am very impressed to see that Regent has a notice on their website indicating the probable arrival of the Navigator in New York is on time and that they are working on flights for their passengers. Bravo Regent:D

It may have been Syndey to Halifax that during dinner on our recent cruise it was quite rocky. We were in La Veranda (SM) watching the pilot boat trying to go along side to get the pilot off. It was quite entertaining. We had been warned by the captain of the seas. By 1 am or so it was all quiet. I wonder if it is the direction and destination. Of course, no Sandy was coming either.

Thanks for the updates. Glad you are staying in Halifax overnight tomorrow night while they can determine the best course for the ship. Please keep us updated.

I, too, was wondering why Regent had the information about flights listed on their notice. Maybe some passengers are getting off in NYC due to the overnight?

 

Those of us boarding in Miami on the 15th hope the ship stays on schedule.

I'm clueless -- just reporting what I saw -- a copy of which is pasted below:

 

Hurricane Sandy

 

 

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is closely monitoring Hurricane Sandy and its impact on travel plans. Seven Seas Navigator will sail her scheduled itinerary except that she will now overnight in Halifax on Tuesday, October 30 and cancel her call on Bar Harbor, Maine on Wednesday, October 31.

 

The Port of New York is currently closed and the Coast Guard has not determined when the port will reopen. At this time, with the current forecast of the storm’s path, we expect Navigator to arrive in New York on November 3 as scheduled.

 

Additionally, we are aware of airport closures and flight cancellations. Our Air Department is working closely with our airline partners to re-route guests who have booked their air arrangements through Regent Seven Seas Cruises. For those guests who have booked air through their travel agents, we encourage them to contact their travel agent directly. Please be aware that this is a very fluid situation and we will post updates as additional information becomes available.

As Karen mentioned, there are European cruises on the Mariner and the Voyager in the next two days. IMHO, getting passengers to those two cruises and bringing passengers back to the US from the just completed cruises on those two ships, in light of airport closures and flight cancellations due to Sandy, would seem to be the immediate concern of Regent.
