World Cruise 2015

How full have the ships been on previous World Cruises?

Does Crystal limit the number of full WC passengers they accept?

What impact on a WC will a full ship make. Good, bad indifferent?

Have previous WCs been full ships?

I am not sure what to make of the sheer number of us planning for the cruise of our lives but lucky us.

Ilene, World Cruises have ranged from low, to medium to high occupancies. Sometimes there will be one or two segments that have low occupancy rates such as crossings. Factors contributing to occupancy include overall length of the World Cruise, length of individual segments, itinerary and the economy.

2013 looks to have a record number of World Cruisers and most segments are sold out. It's hard to say about 2015 but given the number of people from Cruise Critic who have deposits down or who are considering it right now it would appear this one will have a high occupancy rate.

They don't limit the number of people booking the full world cruise but at some point if you had high bookings you could reach a point that between full World Cruisers and those who were guaranteed bookings for one or more segments you could have a situation at some point where you could not book the full World Cruise which happened for 2013.

Even if the ship is sold out it doesn't feel full because you will find a lot of solo guests including many solo World Cruisers.

Many more World Cruisers dine in main seating rather than late seating so if the ship is fairly full at some point if someone doesn't book early whether for the full World Cruise or for individual segments they might not be able to get main (early) dining if that is what they want.

It took me a while, but I found everyone. I have never noticed the World Cruise section before, but that may be because we have not done one before. Thank you Keith and others for the wonderful replies already to questioned asked.

In 2008, the WC had a high Asian population and the Forbes Business Conference between Hong Kong and Mumbi. I am curious to see what that population will be when Serenity goes no further North than Australia. The ship was rather full during that segment.

One of the nice things about sailing on Crystal which is even more apparent on the World Cruises is the diversity of fellow guests we all sail with. I expect that we will easily see guests from 25 to 30 plus nations. If the number of people who have shown an interest in the World Cruise from Cruise Critic is an indication of demand, I expect that most segments of the World Cruise will be quite full, and possibly sold out.

One of the reasons I am signing on this WC is that it is an aniversary cruise and I expect Crystal to let out all the benefits on this one. I hope I am right. Otherwise, why are we beating the drum 2 years early?

We sailed the 2010 World Cruise which market Crystal's 20 year anniversary. During the voyage all sorts of new china to commemorate the anniversary were brought out in the Crystal Dining Room and The Bistro and a special 20 year anniversary Grand Gala Buffet was on display featuring some all time favorite food items and specially decorated cakes. I am sure that between this marking the 20 year anniversary of World Cruises and the 25 year anniversary of Crystal Cruises these two major milestones will be commemorated during the WC.

To me what already stands out is this very unique itinerary which is the first time a Crystal Cruises World Cruise will circumnavigate the globe.

For us, it is the best of the World Cruise itineraries that we have seen, although we have sailed several extraordinary itineraries including the one we sailed with you.

We are considering the Holland America 2015 World Cruise, but have not seen anything on it yet. Do you know when you would expect to see this posted? Any experience with Holland America World Cruises. We were on Holland America many years ago and enjoyed it, but just for a week.

I was on HAL WC this year. On it they came out with the proposed itinary for the 2014 WC. You were able to put a deposit down for it at that time. The actual schedule didn't come out until later. I would say it won't come out until June/July 2013 for general booking for 2015.

HAL isn't the same as it used to be. I did book the 2014 WC on HAL, but will probably cancel it. A friend on the 2012 WC had booked the 2014 WC on HAL, but cancelled it today, and is waitlisted for Crystal's 2015 as I am.

Thank you so much for the response. The reason we were looking at the HAL was the ports that it was going to versus those of Crystal. What has changed with HAL that has made you change to Crystal?

It Captain Mercer will be the captain, he is the best I've ever sailed with. He kept you informed of what was happening. If he came on saying this is Captain Johnathan you knew it was good news, if Captain Mercer you knew it would be bad news. He kept you informed no matter what. You saw him around the ship, and his wife was wonderful also.

The bridge officers were tremendous. I have never seen officers work so hard in my life on Easter Island. There were tendering problems, but they were working together and independently to correct the problem. I feel any of the bridge officers could command the ship in time of disaster. I was on the WC when the Costa ship went down.

I had room service almost every morning, tremendous person who brought my breakfast. If I had forgotten something he would either bring it, or ask if I wanted it. There was a certain berry I like, he kept a lookout for them, and sometimes he was able to provide them.

The crew was okay, probably over worked. I only got the towel animals a couple of times.

The food wasn't the best. I was really looking forward to a chicken salad sandwich, I loved it on the Rotterdam. Well I tried it twice, and it was pretty tasteless. They also ran out of some food items. That can happen on a long cruise. I had always heard the food was the best on the WC, I had much better food on the Rotterdam.

Entertainment and speakers were good and bad, but none great.

If you are a smoker they have changed and are changing that policy.

You might want to keep reading the main HAL board. I think there are problems with trying to cut costs, and please a small group of complainers. I travel solo, and have always made friends on board. I decided that I always wanted to try Crystal, and am now on the wait list for 2015 WC. After the Grand Med with HAL in 2013, I'll decide whether or not to cancel my 2014 WC with them. It is hard giving up the perks I earned, but better to be a happy camper. Plus I love the schedule for Crystals 2015 WC.

I really hate to give a bunch of negatives, I have loved HAL in the past. It seems to have gone down hill.

I can try to answer question, but I'm not sure what you are interested in. After you book, be sure to sign up for the roll call, and take the tours offered by those on the roll call. They are better than the HAL tours.

I'm sure if you take HAL's WC you will enjoy it, I did, but I saw the changes, and read about future changes that I don't care for.

This is for past WCer's or those going on the 2014 Crystal WC. Are shots for malaria and/or yellow fever required for So. Africa. Any difference if you go on a safari or not? Not sure about So. America either.

I am almost sure that a Yellow Fever Vaccination will be required as it was on the 2013 WC because you will be in Brazil and I know that at a minimum Barbados will require that. Crystal will advise in plenty of time if that is correct but I am almost certain it is.

Other vaccinations are always at your discretion and not required. That includes Malaria. If you do not go on a Safari then if it was me I would not take the Malaria. Even in Brazil we did not take the Malaria Capsules which we did bring with us because we did not go very far inland on tours.

My recommendation is once you know what you plan to do in the ports then consult with a Travel Medical Specialist unless you feel that your own Physician can advise you. My experience is that the Travel Medical Specialists are better equipped to advise you on this.

In the past I have used the following specialist and they are located in many areas within the USA.

Finally, I did a lot of reading myself on the CDC web site.

Also be sure all of your regular vaccinations are up to date.
