Sharinalovestocruise Posted December 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2012 What experience has anyone had with special diets on an NCL cruise. My daughter and I both follow a plant based diet. Ive been on 2 NCL diets and it was always possible to accommodate our needs but it was a lot of work (making arrangements for each meal, finding someone knowledgable about exact ingredients in each dish, etc). We are planning on the Breakaway and would like for this to be easier if there is any way we can plan in advance. Thanks

Thanks I would suggest that you contact: Colin Hudson Corporate Executive Chef 7765 Corporate Center Drive Miami, Florida 33126 I notice on my cruise last month, that healthier options were available with less seasoning and in smaller portions. Address your concerns with him and see what he says. He is a very nice man. I have met him.
OceanDreaming2 Posted December 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted December 5, 2012 You should contact the special needs desk about your request.

Cheers.
Sharinalovestocruise Posted December 5, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted December 5, 2012 Plant based refers to healthy eating with foods derived from plants (fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, coconuts, etc.). Vegetarian would also include eggs and dairy which I prefer not to eat. On my recent cruise because I was with a bigger group and did not plan in advance I did eat some vegetarian items which were readily available at every meal. I would like to be better prepared for the next cruise. I appreciate the responses and will follow up with the suggestions. Thank you so much. rbrugler Posted December 6, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2012 The suggestion to contact Colin is correct. And do so about 6 weeks before the cruise. Remember, they cannot run to the local Stop and Shop to get something. My daughter is a strict vegan, and has always received great service. Am I missing something, or that diet more commonly called vegan?
valleyvillage Posted December 6, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2012 Am I missing something, or that diet more commonly called vegan? Some feel that "vegan" encompasses an entire lifestyle: no leather, no honey, nothing that causes pain or distress to any sentient beings.
rvsullivan Posted December 6, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 6, 2012 That description would be an ethical vegan, different for a strict vegan who doesn't care so much about leather etc. Many different flavors of veganism.
