txlolly Posted December 22, 2012 #26 Share Posted December 22, 2012 How much is a soda on board the ship and would it be worth it to buy a package.thanks You may want to taste the soda first. Usually at home I drink a 2 liter a day but when I was on ship the fountains were so bad I didn't drink any, this was both coke and sprite. They wouldn't let me switch to cans without paying extra. I have alway gotten on other cruise lines just didn't like Royal Caribbean's fountain drinks.
papaflamingo Posted December 22, 2012 #27 Share Posted December 22, 2012 My wife buys the soda card every cruise. She drinks club soda often and has found that it is simply easier than writing a ticket every time she wants one. I suspect we don't really average 3 per day with the shore time, but it really pays for convenience. You simply show your card and you get the soda of your choice. Much less hassle. TBone2K Posted December 22, 2012 #31 Share Posted December 22, 2012 How many freestyle machines are on the ships? Anyone know where they are on the Explorer? Windjammer and promenade. Two in each area, I believe. Never more than a couple of people waiting for them.

Rare taxatty Posted December 22, 2012 #33 Share Posted December 22, 2012 Whether it's worth it to you may also depend upon if you're on a port-intensive cruise. If you're off the ship all day almost every day, that limits the number of sodas you can drink unless you're the type that has four sodas with dinner. If there are sea days, you can consume a lot of sodas (trust me). I also lose count when I'm on the Majesty watching football in the Schooner Lounge on an NFL Sunday mixed with more adult-oriented libations. :D Les

Elorahd Posted December 25, 2012 #35 Share Posted December 25, 2012 I'm looking to have just a few sips of Dr Pepper each day to take my medication with. I wouldn't drink near 3 of those a day. Can I bring a few bottles on board or can I buy a 20oz bottle once I get on board? I'm on Mariner.

Can I bring a few bottles on board or can I buy a 20oz bottle once I get on board? I'm on Mariner. I've not seen Dr. Pepper for sale on board. However, you should be able to bring some on board. The rules state no beverages can be brought on board, but they usually don't enforce the rule for non-alcoholic drinks. The only time they seem to enforce the rule against soft drinks is during spring break.
Elorahd Posted December 25, 2012 #37 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Ahh, very nice to know. Thanks for the info. So do they not sell Dr. Pepper AT ALL? That would be very disappointing and I might have to bring more than planned.
Elorahd Posted December 25, 2012 #38 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Also, are there mini fridges in the room to chill the sodas? Maybe even a minibar that they would fit in?
stevea36 Posted December 25, 2012 #39 Share Posted December 25, 2012 Also, are there mini fridges in the room to chill the sodas? Maybe even a minibar that they would fit in? the mini "fridges" are really just coolers to keep the chocolate that they are trying to seel you from melting and such. Your best bet would be to ask your cabin attendant for ice which they will keep full for the entire cruise. then either drink your soda on the rocks or put your bottle/can on ice to chill it. No Dr. Pepper as that too is a Pepsi product, but the freestyle has Mr. Pibb, which I am told is the same (not one that I drink so I cannot say). But if you just want to bring one or two bottles to have in your room, you should be fine so long as they are still unopened.
gltrans1 Posted December 29, 2012 #41 Share Posted December 29, 2012 Just got off Liberty yesterday. We cancelled the drink packages after 2 days because the diet coke from the fountain service tasted horrible. Didn't matter which bar we went to. We returned the drink cups to guest relations desk. They credited the full amount to our account and printed new sea pass cards on the spot.

There are two next to the Starbucks and Ben and Jerry's Stand on Deck 5 and there are 4(two on each side) in the WindJammer on Deck 11 on the Explorer of the Seas which I just got off of on 12/23/2012. I did not plan to purchase the drink package but after seeing the dirty water coming out of the faucet in my sink and realizing that the water in the toilet appeared cleaner that first day I bought the package. Plus they had more than your regular cola's available. I am glad to see that Freedom OTS has a freestyle machine because I plan to buy the package anytime its available and that is the next ship I am booked to sail for now. I did have a few hiccups with the chip in the bottom of my cup but the staff in the WindJammer reset it for me a couple of times. That link provided by schlimazel_traveler is an accurate representation of what is dispensed. http://www.coca-colafreestyle.com/#!/100-brands/brand/coca-cola
beachchick Posted December 29, 2012 #44 Share Posted December 29, 2012 In the past I purchased soda package but the soda in the various areas tasted like mold. This wasn't just on one ship. It was undrinkable except at the casino bar. No longer buy it. Off the ship quite a bit of the time and we take a few bottles of coke onboard with us and keep in our room I only then buy a couple a day. Depends if you drink a lot of soda before it is a good deal (if it is drinkable) We have had similar experiences on a number of ships, not just RCI, but definitely on every RCI cruise it's been the same. Now, perhaps it's just perception but we found the club soda to be fine and fresh tasting at the "indoor" venues, but metallic, stale, and "off" tasting at every "outdoor" venue (including the Radiance Solarium, which is kind of both). We surmised that the piping system had something to do with it, but really don't know. We don't drink syrup fountain sodas, just the plain club soda. Last cruise, neither of us bought the package. beachchick

I am a big (diet) soda drinker at home but I don't care for Diet Coke in the best of circumstances. I would absolutely have purchased the soda package if Freestyle machines were available, but I understand there isn't one on the Enchantment yet. At the moment, I'm still pondering whether to bring a case of Fresca on board even though the website says not to. I'm definitely bringing bottled water. It's not that I don't want to cooperate but if the beverages provided don't suit me, I don't think I'm depriving the cruise line of revenue by bringing drinks on board. I wasn't going to buy theirs anyway. Looking again at the link on the Coke website makes me want to drive over to Wegman's and try a Diet Lime Fanta...
