rvsullivan Posted January 5, 2013 #26 Share Posted January 5, 2013 You are not going to be served course by course. They are not "private" butlers but service several/many suites and are very busy. They will deliver and set up your meal and then leave. Return later to clean up.
rvsullivan Posted January 5, 2013 #27 Share Posted January 5, 2013 The concierge will usually be standing outside the theatre and will escort suite to a reserved seating section for the shows. Depends on the ship. On the Star, reserved seating was for GV and DOS only, he was there to greet everyone, but "special" seating was for those suites only. Basically all treated great with same perks. Except OS have lavazzas. OS are forward and I prefer aft. So I am cruising again with "coffee envy". jdvmd Posted January 5, 2013 #29 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Thanks for the replies, all. A mini suite would be a +$220 on top of our balcony room, so I don't think it would be worth it, I can spend the $ more productively:D! Ken Ken, I see you are on the Epic. We have a mini suite on the Epic. Also participated in a cabin crawl. My cabin was definitely bigger and we had the tub/shower - a real one. Not the little round space capsule next to the door. Would book this again.

endymion6942 Posted January 6, 2013 #33 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Not true. Was in a GV and our Butler delivered according to our preferences, including course by course. We had different on a Baltic Cruise. HOWEVER, I personally like the Butler-concierge combo we get when we sail NCL.
tdcjerry Posted January 6, 2013 #34 Share Posted January 6, 2013 Not true. Was in a GV and our Butler delivered according to our preferences, including course by course. We have had the GV on the Star and service is far more superior then in any other suite on the ship. For 6 of us we ordered for from 3 different restaurants , our butler and his helpers had everything on the patio at the same time. Our butler was the now Concierge John d souza. They are not "private" butlers but service several/many suites and are very busy. They will deliver and set up your meal and then leave. Return later to clean up. You are absolutely incorrect. I have had many butlers and they give me the option of course by course or all at once. I usually choose all at once because I hate having the butler standing outside my door waiting on me. I usually choose all at once because I hate having the butler standing outside my door waiting on me. Absolutely. I cruise with my mom and it really is fine all at once. The entree is covered. I guess it might be nice to receive creme brulee later but if it is just in the hall with the butler anyways, what's the point? I guess if it was a romantic ensuite date the course-by-course service would add to the ambience. But even then I think I would clear it with the butler in advance, schedule permitting. What a wonderful dilemna to have! Ensuite dining all at once or by course???

psmarkle Posted April 13, 2013 #41 Share Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) 2 yrs ago on the Star, we were in a Family Suite, Cat SJ. When we were taken to Cagney's at embarkation for lunch, we were chatting with the hostess about how much I enjoyed eggs benedict for breakfast after my morning workouts, but would I have to change to come to the restaurant? She said, no problem, handed me a Cagney's b'fast menu and said the butler could just deliver it to our suite in the morning! So every day, we had b'fast from the Cagney's menu delivered to our room...eggs benedict, filet mignon and eggs, crab cakes and eggs, extra crispy bacon...yum-to-the-o! Now you know why I hit the gym every morning on my cruises, too! The suite life is suite on NCL, which is why were booked in another Cat SJ in 90 more days on NCL Dawn :-) Edited April 13, 2013 by psmarkle
mom2tcdx2 Posted April 13, 2013 #42 Share Posted April 13, 2013 I booked an SJ suite on the Dawn yesterday, then realized that we have 4 port stops right in a row and only 2 full sea days. Is Cagney's still open for breakfast and lunch on those port days? I don't know how much we will be getting off the ship in ports, may or may not have some excursions planned. Really doubtful we will do anything in Costa Maya anyway. May choose to hang around on the ship. Last time we had a suite on the Star, our butler didn't seem to want to serve any meals in our cabin. I was new to NCL, tried to see about ordering lunch in our cabin, the only menu he told me I could order from was the standard room service. When I mentioned I thought we could order from Cagney's or other restaurants for dinner he told me no and treated me like I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about. Since I was new and had limited experience at the time I had assumed I had misread these boards. When I came back and learned different I have to say I was pretty disappointed in the service we got from our butler. Maybe I will have a better one this cruise. francina Posted April 13, 2013 #43 Share Posted April 13, 2013 I am so happy to get the 411. This will be my first time in a suite and I didn't really know how I would utilized the Butler. But having breakfast on the balcony seems to be the way to go. Also, I might want to have dinner served in our rooms some night too.

I had the same disappointing experience on the Jewel. It was our 1st cruise & although I thought I read everything I could here on CC...I must have missed some things. Our Butler didn't have much time for us it seemed & twice we were told 'no' when we asked for a Cagneys breakfast to be delivered. He only allowed us to order from the regular breakfast menu...came & dropped it all on the table & left. Not a great experience. Luckily CC is still here & more & more I learn things from it's members regarding what a Suite customer is entitled to. Look out Breakaway Butler...I'm going to be very prepared this time! Cagney's is open every single day of the cruise for breakfast and lunch. If you ever have a problem with the butler, discuss it with concierge as the butlers work for the concierge. If you are still having a problem, discuss it with the Hotel Director. The HD wants to hear about any complaints/problems while you are on the ship so that he/she can deal with it immediately. If you work up the chain of command, I guarantee you that your butler will get a new brain transplant.

coffeecat Posted April 14, 2013 #49 Share Posted April 14, 2013 Really good info, I've read on hear somewhere about suite people having party's in there suites with different snacks and finger foods is that aloud and does anyone know what they would serve. Frist time in a suite on the POA. We have done this before for a small group of people (5-10) but I have heard of larger parties in some of the larger suites. Basically, just let the butler know ahead of time-number of people, time and what you would like (we had cheese, chips and salsa, veggies, chicken wings etc). You can order a fancier cheese plate as well or some shrimp (these would $). The parties are free unless you upgrade the menu. We had some beer and wine brought up as well (for cost). Then we just made sure the butler had a nice tip at the end of the cruise. I would let him know as far in advance as possible so there is plenty of time to get things ready. Have a great cruise!
