FX8081 Posted January 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2013 I'm on the Crown Princess for departure date Feb 2nd. Does anyone think they will be playing the Super Bowl on MUTS on the 3rd and a Super Bowl type party? 2nd, what recommendations for port visit to Roatan? Belize? Cozumel? We want to do beaches the most. Does the Crown dock in Roatan at "Mahogany Bay"? or other. Where staying 2 nights before cruise in Galveston and wondering on ideas on good Texan type food eateries (BBQ & Steak & Seafood) & sights? Any recommendations appreciated.;) Don't seem to be to with-it today posting a question? Oh well. Thanks
paul929207 Posted January 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2013 I would think it is a pretty safe bet that they will show the Super bowl and have some type of party
Astro Flyer Posted January 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2013 They show many football games on MUTS so sure that the Super Bowl will be shown there. I wouldn't be surprised if they also showed it in Club Fusion with all of the TVs around the room to watch the game. I was on the Coral a couple of years ago and because they don't have MUTS it shown on big video screens in the aft showroom and they provided a buffet which included items such as nachos, pizza etc.
texankhj Posted January 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2013 Best Tips- Galveston - eat at Shrimp&Stuff. Go to the park in the harbor, they have a submarine you can go through. That's pretty cool. If you want to adventure out NASA is about 45 minutes north. That is a great tour. Best Bar in Galveston - Poop Deck On the night you sail out - watch for the oil rigs. There are hundreds and they are lit up like Christmas trees. Really a sight not to be missed. Rotaan - West Bay Beach (5th on the list of the most beautiful beached in the world) I have to say it is my favorite! Belieze - Scary, do not leave the port area unless you are on a ship excursion. The port area has nice bars, good day to just chill. You will have to tender to this port. Cozumel - Rent a Jeep, it is easy, and less than $100. You can rent it at the port. There is only 1 road that circles the island. This road will lead you to the most beautiful part of the island. You will find the Rastas (Bob Marley) Bar. Great veiws, beautiful beaches. As you continue on around the island, there are more bar-beaches to stop and view. Don't miss Coconuts. Remember this is a very small island so you will have plenty of time to enjoy the beaches and get back to turn in your jeep before you have to be back on the ship. We have done this several times. It is totally safe. And a true beach escape without the crowds. Have fun! Take good care of the Crown, we will be on her 2-16:p Happy Crusing! pablo222 Posted January 20, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2013 I'm on the Crown Princess for departure date Feb 2nd. Does anyone think they will be playing the Super Bowl on MUTS on the 3rd and a Super Bowl type party? I wonder if anyone will watch it? Will everyone on board be complaining that the screen is for MOVIES under the stars? Or, maybe that's just here...

Thanks We were on the Crown last year for SB and MUTS is the place to be, but stake out a spot early and stay there. Last year, MUTS, Fusion and even the conference room showing locations were filled to capacity, and the SB generally does not show in cabins. Something to do with licensing is what we've been told in years past. Enjoy the game while at sea, you'll have lots of company!
subtlefantasy Posted January 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 20, 2013 I was on the Crown in 2010 for the Superbowl show on the MUTS screen, which happened to be on a formal night. The deck was packed with extra chairs. The crew brought out the chair covers with the head pillow built in. They even had food out on the deck like pizza, popcorn and chicken wings. You do have to get a spot early as it does get extremely crowded. What a fun experience it was!
cubswin2016 Posted January 20, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2013 Get there early as it gets crowded and lots of people saving chairs for others. And, no commercials - in case you were looking forward to those!
Rare fun_one Posted January 20, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 20, 2013 Olympia Grill is a great place to eat and sit outside and watch what is going on in the Pier area. Yaga's Cafe on the Strand als has great food and great service. Personal favorite for a nice dinner is Rudy & Paco's on 21st and Post Office. Have fun. On Pelican Island there is a submarine and a destroyer escort that are interesting to tour. Downtown near the cruise ship terminals is the Strand area with shops, restaurants, a railroad museum, and a sailing ship/museum. On the western part of Galveston Island is and airplane museum and Moody Gardens which has a nice aquarium and an indoor rain forest located in hugh pyramid buildings. Kamper Posted January 20, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 20, 2013 I've always like Files Tales on the Seawall for eats. You didn't say where you were staying in Galveston but, I believe there is still a trolley that will take you from the Strand area (near the port) to the beach side of the island. There's a small museum that goes over the history of the Great Storm (not Ike the first one). On several of the buildings along the Strand you'll see markers for the water levels from both storms. I also think the off-shore museum at the port is neat. There's also a ton of stuff to do over at Moody Gardens.
caribill Posted January 20, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 20, 2013 I believe there is still a trolley that will take you from the Strand area (near the port) to the beach side of the island. The Galveston Rail Trolleys and Track were severely damaged in Hurricane Ike and will be repaired and restored to full service in the future. caribill Posted January 21, 2013 #15 Share Posted January 21, 2013 Sorry, that should be Fish Tails I didn't realize the trolley still wasn't running, Carbill (we're in League City too). Since it has been four years and 4 months since Ike, it does not look as if they are in any rush to get the service going again.

They have a tour at 10am specifically for the Crown. I've been to Belize before and loved it. http://www.coralbreezetours.com/ In Roatan, we're just going to Mahogany Bay. In Cozumel, there are going to be almost 16,000 passengers on shore the day we're there and I think it'll be similar for yours. It's going to be a freaking zoo. Everywhere will be crowded, including the roads and the beaches. We're getting off late and meeting friends (cruising on another ship) at Pancho's Backyard for an very early lunch to avoid the crowds.
