Fire on Carnival Triumph. No engines, running on emergency generators.

They've had fires on Ecstasy and Tropacale not to mention the fires they've had on their Princess line. Not sure if they owned Cunard back during the Norway incident. I don't think age of ship is the biggest factor here.

Too much bad info to rebut it all but for starters the Norway was owned by NCL when her boilers blew.

And now get ready for the bytching to begin, I want more, Carnival has ruined my life, I want more compesation than Carnival is giving, even thought Carnival does not have to do much of anything. Carnival always goes above and beyond the requirements.

Ridiculous post!

This is happening far to often in the Carnival Fleet. Instead of blindly defending the corporation, real questions need to asked and answered regarding passenger safety.

Has Carnival scrimped on engineering and safety issues as they have cut back on entertainment and food?

Have officers and crewmen received the best training even if it costs more?

Carnival Corporation has created an environment and reputation of providing the cheapest cruise possible. The question is what does this imply regarding passenger comfort and safety?

Excellent post. This is what I was also hinting at. These "isolat ed" incidents are happening FAR to often within the Carnival corp. It can't be a coincidence.

Something tells me that this incident is going to open the flood gates for Carnival and not in a good way.

Seems to be a lot of speculation and very little in the way of facts.

I would have loved to have been on Splendor then and Triumph now. A free cruise now and a free cruise later for a little inconvenience. ;)

Carnival is more than generous and typically goes far above and beyond anything required by the cruise contract. :)

Definitely disagree with this. The statement should read (if it were to actually be accurate): Carnival USED TO BE more than generous and typically, USED TO GO far above and beyond anything required by the cruise contract.

oh yeah, and just a minor inconvenience.

I have been asking the same questions to myself. So many disasters in the Carnival Corp. in the past few years. What gives?

Carnival was just bragging about their largest week of bookings ever, kinda wonder if they will tell us about the largest week of cancellations after this incident in their long list of ship failures!:eek::(

I doubt very seriously there will be mass cancellations. I am sure any cruise line that had their largest week of bookings would have made that public even RCCL. Let's just be thankful that no one was injured or killed.

Two recent and major engine room fires does make me wonder if there's a problem at Fincantieri. If there is, it impacts the whole corporation, not just Carnival Cruise Line. Fincantieri is a major builder for other brands under the Carnival umbrella, and many of the ships share a same basic hull and design.

After the Concordia incident, I'm sure safety is always number 1. Any cruise line and especially Carnival.

Maintenance though is in question especially considering the timeline of Triumph's issues.

I have always felt that cruising is a safe vacation, but hearing that this is the second time this has happened to a Carnival ship in a short space of time, I would hope that whomever governs the safety of passenger vessels leaving the US (because I hear it is not the TSA), would insist on a fleet wide mechanical and fire safety inspection of Carnival's engine rooms.

Liz

Of course it's not the TSA. They have nothing to do with mechanical safety of planes, either.

Really? And why is that? Quite basic to parallel their grids after you connect. You would need some transfer switches along with sync and protective relays of course. Also have to have the proper programming mode set up for the governor and sequencer. They use 4 power cables and a neutral.

Those ships are not docked, there on the ocean, and they have to keep a good distance apart from each other.

Could you imagine the size and weight of a cable large enough to handle an electrical load needed to make a difference on the Triumph, multiplied by the length needed to span the distance between the ships.

Even if there were such a cable and it could be of use, it doesn't seem like 1 ships power generating capabilty would be so oversized as to be able to handle the requirments of 2 ships.

I know of a number of sane people who would love to be on that ship.;):p

I am one of those people. I will be sailing on Carnival in 12 days and I can't wait!!

No one is in danger right now. They have food and drink. They have 3 extra days to sit on the Lido looking at the beautiful ocean. Carnival is compensating them very, very well. A bad day at sea is better than a good day at work, cold and snow. Crap happens. Just go with it.

Events happen. That is life. No one injured, no one died. Carnival is stepping up to the plate. Nothing to look at here. Move it along folks.

Actually there is a lot to look at here. Why is this sort of event becoming a common occurrence within the Carnival Corporation? Definitely NOT something to be pushed under the rug

Another ridiculous post. There is plenty to look at and I for one hope that Carnival Corporation is raked across the coals for their number of mishaps.

Real glad no serious injuries reported.

I've been wondering if the deployment of the fire suppression system and not the actual fire contributed to the loss of propulsion. Does anyone know what type of fire suppression might be deployed in a Triumph engine room?

I'm thinking the deployment. I would imagine it's a CO2 system. If you google them they are pretty powerful, very effective, and basically make a mess of everything and get in everywhere. Cleaning up afterwards is a pain. And if there are any air intakes exposed, well, now you just ruined the engine internally.

There's a reason they mandate clearing the engine room before deploying the system. Anyone inside would be dead from lack of oxygen and inhaling the stuff.

There is a US Consulate in Merida, which also has the closest airport to Progreso. Only about 20 minutes away.

Perhaps more people will think twice about ever leaving the country without a passport from now on.

Have you ever, ever heard of any cruise ship passengers being left in another country when things like this happen???

Carnival said you didn't need a passport to cruise.

The Carnival cruise ship is unable to cruise.

Carnival said they will fly "ALL PASSENGERS" back home.

Don't you think Carnival or any other cruise line would tell their passengers that they "HAVE" to bring a passport in case of emergencies before they cruise?

THINK!!!!

"Crap Happens" too and I'd rather be able to crap in a sanitary place like where I work, then with 3,000+ others who haven't showered in 3 days and are also filling their useless toilets. So much easier said than done.

I will never understand this comment. If you would rather be on a ship with no electricity and no running water than at work then I think you should be looking for another job.

This was from the web site. I think that CCL is doing as much as possible , and then some...

All guests on the current Carnival Triumph voyage will receive a full refund of the cruise, along with transportation expenses. In addition, they will receive a future cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage, as well as reimbursement of all shipboard purchases during the voyage, with the exception of gift shop and casino charges.

Agree! this situation is so different than someone coming back from a cruise and posting that it was the worst cruise ever bc the waitstaff forgot to give them a d$mn bday cake.

These people should absolutely be upset, nd rightfully so, and they should absolutely complain, and i very much hope that they do come on here nd tell us what happened -- all of it -- the good, the bad and the ugly -- because it would be helpful for us to know wth CCL is doing with the pax in this emergency situation. And anyone who flames anyone on that cruise for posting anything about this, even if they don't agree, is just a fool.

And to think you just got off the Elation. The Elation docked next to the Triumpth to give supplies today. Just think of the awesome review and pictures you could have taken if you were on this Elation cruise!!!

But what do you do with it on a ship when the toilets don't work.
