awfully sorry,

There is probably a thread, but i'm having trouble finding it. I have some leftover Carnival drink tickets from last year. I think they don't issue them any more - anyone had an experience with them in the last few months?

thanks!

I had 7 with me when I got on the BREEZE. I used 3 of them without any problem. I kept the remaining 4 to use on the next cruise. They will accept them but the I don't like the "new" system of "Crui$e Ca$h Bar". IF you don't send the entire amount of money it is "NON-Refundable.:(

This is the response I got from the big man himself, John Heald:

Carnival Cruise Lines recently launched the new Cruise Cash program, which allows guests to purchase shipboard credits in $25 increments up to $100. Photo credits are available in $10 increments. The credits are applied to guests’ Sail & Sign accounts. Currently, three types of Cruise Cash are offered: 1) general/all-encompassing Cruise Cash which can be used to offset any type of charge on a guest’s Sail & Sign account 2) Cruise Cash Bar which specifically earmarks the credit toward bar department purchases and 3) Cruise Cash Photo which designates the credit specifically toward photo department purchases.

The Cruise Cash program replaces the line’s previous coupon-based program. Carnival will continue to honor previously purchased coupons through Feb. 1, 2014.

The new Cruise Cash program was developed based on feedback from guests who requested a more convenient and user-friendly system. The previous coupon-based system had many limitations, including having a pre-set value of $5.75 per coupon, meaning that guests lost money when they purchased items less than that amount or owed money for items that were more than the coupon’s value. Additionally, coupons were distributed the first night in the dining room and if the guest did not go to the dining room that evening they would not receive their coupons until the next day. Also, if guests lost or misplaced their coupons, there was no way to track and replace them.

The new Cruise Cash system addresses all of these concerns. Once purchased, the credit is applied directly to the guest’s Sail & Sign account thus eliminating the need for guests to carry the coupons; it eliminates the potential for loss in value on smaller cost purchases; it ensures that the credit is immediately available for use once purchased thus not obligating guests to wait for the coupons to be delivered; and there is no risk of losing the credit because of lost or misplaced paper.

So you have until Feb. 1, 2014 to use up your paper coupons!

I purchased the drink coupons for out April 2012 cruise. With the new Funship 2.0, I had so much trouble using the tickets, I ended up not using 4 or 5 of them. I brought my trouble to Guest Services who connected me with the bar manager who assured me that they would never expire. We are booked for another cruise but not until April-May 2014. So no what?

Here is a link where Mischelle from Carnival states the dates on funville (go halfway down the page). I printed it out to take with me in future http://www.carnival.com/Funville/forums/p/258249/1335895.aspx

According to Carnival after Feb. 1, 2014 they will no longer take them and if we have any then we are SOL.

Doesn't seem fair since they do not have an expiration date.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have several coupons left from last year and just assume Carnival would continue to honor them since that's what they said when I bought them. Seeing the "we'll honor them until 2/1/14" makes me realize I'd better use them on our upcoming trip in a couple of weeks or lose out because we probably won't cruise again until after that date.

It also addresses the concern of people taking credit home with them. You can only buy $100 per person? That's kind of lame. I think I bought 7 strips and was gifted one last time I went. I'd only be able to buy the equivalent of 4 strips myself now.

There is no maximum on how many you can buy, it's just that they sell the credits at $25, $50, $75, & $100 increments like fixed amount gift cards at a store. So if you want to buy the equivalent of 8 strips then purchase yourself $200 dollars worth. You can order 2 $100 ones all at once or buy 8 separate $25 ones at different times.

Be warned though unlike the old tickets, which you could take home if unused, the new Crui$e Ca$h must be used on the booking they are purchased for since they are applied as non-refundable OBC. So the bad news is if you buy $200 worth but only drink $190 worth Carnival gets to keeps the remainder.

The good news is now the credit system is good for any on board beverage purchase, and you are not limited to using them only on drinks that are $5.75 or more. The actual drink price is deducted from the credit, so if you order a soda for $2.26 or virgin smoothie for $5.46 only that amount is deducted from the balance. Want the souvenir glass DOD, bucket of beers, or bottle of wine then that total is deducted (provide there is enough credits left) no difference to have to sign for. According to M&M over at FunVille the credits can even be used towards the purchases of the drink programs (Bottomless Bubbles & Cheers) when they are purchased on board.

I am waiting for someone in the future to come back from a Carnival cruise and post a thread throwing a fit because they did not know that it was "Use it or Lose it" and Carnival kept there money.

Personally I am just going to keep my money in a cookie jar instead of having the chance that I might buy too much and lose it to Carnival.

Right there w/ you since we all know how well many read the full description of the things they purchase online.

Personally for my money I'l go with the new gift card program, if I'm looking to pre-fund my on board account. Sure it's a little bit of a hassle to go to Guest Services or the kiosk machine to apply it to my S&S account, but it has many more uses than the Crui$e Ca$h. First off from what I'm hearing the are no restrictions on what departments those funds can be used in (including use for slot play). Then at least if I don't use all of it off of my S&S account it is refunded in the form of a new gift card for the balance left. Then that new card can be used towards booking a future cruise or pre-purchasing excursions or items from gift services for some one I wish to say Bon Voyage to (such as myself).;)

We have 6 sheets of tickets left from our Legend cruise and our next cruise leaves on February 1, 2014.. go figure..

Looks like I will have to get my hubby to ask around at work and see if anyone is taking a Carnival cruise this year and try to sell them to someone who will actually be able to use them. None of our friends cruise so we are probably just going to lose the $138 we spent on them.

Currently I am sailing on 1/12/14 and my nephew has about 8 sheets left from our Thanksgiving cruise since he got the drink on us card in the casino. I may switch to 2/1/14 on the Liberty. We drink beer so if we do, we are just going to a bar and turn them all in and put some beers on ice in our rooms for the duration of the cruise. If you drink beer, that may be an option for you.

His roommate, who also bought a lot of coupons and got the drink on us card with him, plans on selling his on Ebay. That may be an option for you if you are comfortable with that.

Sell them for $20, you won't lose as much and people cruising know its a good deal. May be worth giving it a try. Good Luck.

Hitting the bar and cashing them in for beers on day one sounds like a great idea! I may have my husband try that since he's the beer drinker in the family. I am afraid that they wouldn't accept them on the 1st though. I guess we will have to see.

We are on the 2/1/14 sailing on the Liberty so if you do switch cruises, maybe we can double team the bar tender and persuade them to let us use all of them at once. :D

Please excuse my ignorance, never used the coupons, but didn't they get some kind of discount? What is the benefit of purchaseing the advanced drinks? Are they cheaper on board?

They included gratuity on drinks up to $5.75 in price so if you buy a Budweiser for $5.75, you don't pay anything with the ticket. It was a great way to pre-pay for drinks ahead of time and have a lower S&S at the end of the cruise. We always bought one sheet a month up until our cruise and we would drink several drinks a day and have a S&S under $50 each cruise.

Oh, okay, that's not bad then. If you could use it to offset the Cheers program it's actually a pretty big gain, because Cheers would blow up your S&S account

Before Funship 2.0 they might have worked out. But with the new program, everything was considered a deal - there were 2 drinks each day promoted and discounted $1, there were those monkey heads or whatever that were considered a promo. The $1 off at the captains party were a promo as was buying a bucket of bear. The new computers considered the drink tickets as a promo or coupon and the system wasn't allowed 2 discounts. So I had a lot of trouble unless I was buying a single beer which was less than the value of the ticket and just forfeited the remainder. In any case the tickets were sold with no expiry date and the bar manager said they never expired. So they need to figure out a way for people to use them. And if they are going to insist on expiring them, then they need to go to Feb 2015 as you can book two years out.
