RCI or RCCL?

Recommended Posts

So I've seen Royal Caribbean designated on these boards as both RCI and RCCL (and a few other random designators as well). So what's right, or does it matter? I know the RCI stands for Royal Caribbean International. What's the CL for in RCCL. This is just a random question that has been bugging me.

RCI - parent comany, includes Celebrity, etc.

RCCL- Royal Caribbean Cruis eLine, subsidiary of above.

Same as Carnival

Carnival Corp owns Carninval Cruise Line, HAL, Princess, Cunard, etc.

Actually you have it reversed.

RCCL is the parent company. It stands for Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD.

RCI is the "brand", Royal Caribbean International

Under the parent company RCCL, there are five brands:

1. Royal Caribbean International

2. Celebrity Cruises

3. Azamara Club Cruises

4. Pullmantur (Spanish Market)

5. Croisieres de France (French Market)

In addition, RCCL and TUI AG operate a joint venture called TUI Cruises, which caters to the German market.

Other way around:

RCI: Royal Caribbean International, the operator of the ships listed at royalcaribbean.com

RCCL: Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., the parent of RCI, Celebrity, Azamara, etc.

LIKE!!! Not the worst mistake one can make but it is confusing to the masses. This is a good clarification :D:D:D

Maybe this should be a sticky.

Hi,

on this board people refer to RCI or RCCL many different ways even just as Royal .....

but :

Seems that some of the answers have been provied already, but none addresses the RCCL from the time when it was founded.

RCCL actually stands for two different companies , depending on the time frame.

Per my understanding it is like this:

In 1968 the company Royal Caribbean Cruise Line was founded - so here is the RCCL ........

and it stayed as Royal Caribbean Cruise Line untill 1997.

In 1997 after purchasing Celebrity Cruises the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line was re-branded

as Royal Caribbean International (RCI )

and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) was established as the new parent company of both.

So there are two companies that are RCCL -

the first and original Royal Caribbean Cruise Line

and the later one Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd ( the parent company ).

The parent RCCL has more brands as mentioned above.
