Monarch of the Seas

Recommended Posts

It's not just you. I've just been too chicken to say so, in fear of being flamed.

We went on it last year, and swore we were never doing that class again. My mom has back problems and has to be in a wheelchair for a decent amount of the time. Monarch was not accessible. And in general was more difficult for her to get around than Enchantment had been the year before.

So no, I'm glad to be seeing her leave as well. Here's to hoping neither of us get flamed too badly now for saying so. ;)

Ha ha ha !!! If we get flamed just for giving our opinion then we'll take it on the chin :-)

I'm excited that she's being replaced with a much better ship, but it's sad that she's leaving the fleet. I'd rather just give her back to the west coasters :D.

Anything would be welcome out here. :) We'd even take that broke down Mexican ship.

Ironically, if you look at the RCCL website calendar, you will see they have colored boxes for 'Mexico' and 'Pacific Northwest'....which were not there a month ago. Rumor has it that Vision may be relocated back to the West Coast.

That would actually be great. I would love to do a Mexican Riviera cruise.

Is it just me that is looking forward to the pile of junk they call Monarch of the Seas leaving the RCI fleet next week and making way for a slightly better ship in Port Canaveral ?

How would you like it if I called YOU a "pile of junk"?!?!?!?!?!

My first cruise was on Monarch of the Seas. Hooked me on cruises. Have not been on her since but from what I have read and from what I know about Royal Caribbean I think it is excessive to call her a pile of junk. A pretty good ship then and now. The main problem with the Monarch is that class of ships had some of the smallest cabins on cruise ships and for a long time Royal Caribbean had a reputation that was hard to shake for small cabins.

I'm not one to normally reply to these negative threads however I must take exception to this. Don't forget when the Monarch was launched the president of the company that built her said it would be 50 years before they built anything larger (he was actually referring to her sister the Sovereign). yes she does not compare in size and amenities to the newer classes of ships but she has class. She has been well maintained and I can,t say enough about her crew. We spent 11 days on her last Christmas and New Years with 4 of us in one inside cabin and we had one of the best vacations ever. Your vacation is what you make of it. I was always taught that if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it. Hopefully the Monarch will have a great second career serving her Spanish guests.

Vision"s captain and the loyalty ambassador told us in January that she is going to be based in Colon after the refit in the fall.

We took the final four day cruise. We have cruised before on NCL and Carnival. I wasn't expecting much from a ship that was being retired, but the itinerary met our needs.

The good: Stateroom Attendant, Restaurant Waiter/Assistant Waiter, Explorer's Club Staff and Activities Staff.

The bad: Most food, Rock-wall employees.

The worst: Casino Staff (except Ivan and Paulino).

I can honestly say, if it wasn't for the level of service that was provided by the members of "The Good" above, I wouldn't even consider sailing RCI again.

The ship was much nicer than I expected. I expected something similar to Carnival Sensation. It was worlds better.

Since I can separate the ship from the service, I think it's fair to say that with some minor sprucing up, this ship has many years of good service ahead of her.
