Six-Flags of the Seas.No thanks, I'll keep cruising for the love of the sea and ports
I also dislike the apparent lack of open air spaces. This is another inward looking ship. I suspect that pretty soon RCI will just do like the Gulfport, Mississippi casinos. Build something that looks like a ship and tie it up to a pier and never go anywhere. Imagine all the savings in propulsion systems! You can use the space where the engine rooms are supposed to go and put in a bowling alley!
Good insight. You may be correct in your assessment. Time will tell how this goes over.
I'll definitely be going on the QOS just to see a brand new ship class. Will I ride the bumper cars? Probably not. I don't ice skate either. I may try the iFly though, my wife did the one in Orlando and loved it.

The observation crane is a little gimmicky, but there are some who will like it. I prefer the view from the heli-pad where all you can see in front of you is ocean. That's a million dollar view.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the interior. I'm curious if the Royal Promenade (if she has one) will have any surprises. I'm also hoping they do a better job with the Viking Crown Lounge than what they did with Oasis/Allure's. It's not as much of an attraction as it was on previous classes.
I have cruised on the Oasis class six times and have never stepped foot on the Flowrider, zip line, rock climbing wall or carousel but I still loved the Oasis class. I don't see myself wanting to do the rip cord or bumper cars but parts of the ship look amazing.
I'm in the camp that is underwhelmed by this. Not because there is no WOW associated with the announcement (hello, skydiving and bumper cars is a pretty huge concept on a ship), but because this just doesn't fit with my idea of a cruise vacation. I'm a laid-back, quiet, classic cruise environment type of girl who looks forward to visiting the ports as well.

For those of you who are blown-away by Quantum (and Oasis) have a wonderful cruise (and enjoy a drink for me!). As for me, I will stick with the smaller, more classic ships.
iloverags2 - I think that I just might need a few drinks behind all the circus effect of the Quantum. The Oasis was quite enough for me last year, and I'm not certain that I want to experience more of the "floating amusement park" stuff. But I know the ship will do well, and there's a DEFINITE audience for it. Good luck, New York!

I'm in both camps... we're fans of the "Radiance" class and enjoy the port intensive cruises so I don' t see a need for all the extras.

The virtual balconies look very cool. I didn't catch the entire web stream but I would assume there's a feed from a web cam.

I can see why folks would want the extra entertainment when sailing out of NY/ NJ, especially in winter.

I hope RCL balances out the infusion of mega ships with smaller class ships.

The North Star seems like a neat idea, but I wonder if it is useable in high winds or rough seas?

I like a helipad area for a view.

I guess it's good to have different ships for different tastes.

I wish they would put a Freedom or Voyager class in San Juan year round in San Jaun so there would be a combination of great ports and a great ship!
Me too! Although DH seemed quite interested... maybe we'll be taking separate vacations? I hope not! LOL :p .
I think I'll have the same problem. My husband was wanting to sail her before today's reveal. He hasn't seen the info from today yet; however, I have no doubt that he'll want to sail her. Especially since we wouldn't need to fly

As shown on the video, it can show you just what cosmetic surgery can do! :D

It's great fun, didn't think I could do it, but obviously I could.

There must be some crappy amusement parks where some of you are from, cause I'd hardly call them amusement parks!! Where are the roller coasters and the tilt-a-whirl?!? 2 or 3 rides does not make an amusement park!! Just got off of Jewel, she had a rock wall, but I didn't climb it! My take is if you don't want to do it, skip it! I mean, what is this ship taking away? You still get dinner, sun, and I'm sure there are quiet areas. I guess there may be more kids.....maybe some prefer less of them? I just don't see the additions causing any loss of other things. Oh well, there's my $.02!!
I think it's just an extension of what cruising has been for decades - a combination of transportation and entertainment. After all, it's not at all new to have a cruise ship have a casino, a video arcade, a theater, etc. And, some people had similar reactions to yours at the idea of having things like a skating rink or a rock climbing wall.

For me, it's a waste of space to have a casino on a ship, but there are some people who love having a casino. In my opinion, that is exactly what cruising is supposed to be - a ship that can be many different things to different people.
Good point. I can respect that, and I guess it's not difficult to understand. I guess for me, I just go to enjoy the sea, and the sunshine. Now, things like the rip chord, flowrider, rock wall, I get all that--b/c you're still outside and enjoying the elements. I guess for me, these inside attractions are what I don't like and understand. Just too "gimicky" for me. But then again I am an old soul :) Like so many pointed out, everyone has different opinions.

Really? Not hard to understand where the amusement park comparison comes from.

People are just stating their opinions...relax!!

They might as well since it seems like a lot of the folks on here says the ship is the destination for them. If that is so, they may as well as you say stay tied up to a pier and never go anywhere! I am really hoping that now that there are 2 classes above the Freedom class that the prices for Freedom cruises will get lower as the whole cruise experience which includes ports and my cabin choice is what I like and I haven't paid Oasis and Allure prices yet and I gues if those come down to Freedom prices I will get to sail on them! I know it will be some yrears before I can cruise on the 2 new ships!
The bumper cars may be new, but it's not necessarily a new, dedicated venue. It will be on the basketball court. To me, that is a "so what?" In other words, an easily avoided attraction if you don't like it. I might feel different if it was a dedicated venue, but it's not.
For me, the entire ship is an easily avoided venue. There's nothing on this ship that could get me to fly from Florida to New York. Now, if they replaced the eye with a skycoaster:D
Actually RCI has no problem with people moving up to Celebrity or Azamara if they want a more traditional experience. That is their hope. You move up and they attract a new crusier to RCI.
Exactly. I just purchased a Celebrity open ended Passages reservation while aboard a RCI ship. It is Celebrity's version of the Next Cruise. If they had a problem, they wouldn't be doing that.
I guess I'm just easy to please because I can find something to love about ALL of the ships. I'll sail on any of them, any day. I'm just grateful to be able to do so.
You and me both. While blown away by Oasis Class, I just had a fantastic weekend on Majesty. Majesty may not have all the bells and whistles but it does have, in my opinion, the best Schooner Bar and Boleros in the RCI fleet. :)

Maybe people should use the word carnival instead of amusement park. :)
Yes and so do all the people that are booking the two Oasis class ships week after week. RCI knew what they were doing with Oasis and they know what they're doing with Quantum. They do their homework and the do it well.
Winner winner chicken dinner!

Agree 100%.
Not sure why people want to crap on innovative and interesting new ideas.
I think that's just human nature. Some people react negatively to change or new things. When the Voyager class first came out, with it's interior Royal Promenade, people complained about it and wondered why anyone would want to sail on a floating shopping mall.
