Muster Drills in Dining rooms?

I have been seeing several pics and posts about muster drills.

An observation I had was that a lot of people were not on the ship decks by the actual safety boats, but sitting in a dining room area.

Has the procedures changed? I wouldn't want to be inside a big room if there was an emergency, I would much rather be closer to the boats and get in line like everyone else.

I've neve been a part of a drill that required us to grab our lifevests, but we were always lined up by the boats.

What has changed, why, and in case of a real emergency, do people actually congregate in the dining rooms?

Each ship can be different, one time we were told to go to the show room and other times to the muster station. Don't know what makes the difference but we just go where we are told...:D You will never meet in a showroom in the event of an emergency!!! C.G.

I went to DR a few weeks ago due to disability. I have a short term issue (broken leg and broken ankle) so didn't know they did this. They pulled me aside and I joined a bunch of people that obviously had done this several times.

If your muster meeting place is a showroom, that's exactly where you go in an emergency.

For our last muster (in April), we met in the showroom - had the safety talk & then as a group walked out to where our actual muster station was (i.e. the boats). I think they probably do it this way now because they want to make sure people aren't standing 4 deep along the side of the ship getting tired while waiting on others who are late. Just my thought. I liked the new system better. In an emergency I'll be going to the boats/muster station - not the showroom or diningroom.

Thank you everyone!!

OK, so after you have your muster meeting in a dining room, MDR, or wherever, do they instruct you that you will need to make your way to the decks to load onto the boats at some point?

or is meeting in these rooms a way to just make people more comfortable?

Thanks again! I definitely apprecaite all the responses! You guys are fantastic; That is why I love CC!

Did you go to the boats after the speech in the MDR or where you dismissed from the drill while in the MDR?

TiA

Dismissed while in the MDR - we didn't go to the boats. It was the same procedure as the Sensation several years ago (only that was in the disco).

On the Breeze in January we met in a conference room, watched a film and were released without having to line up.

On the Conquest in April we lined up out on deck for just like normal.

On the Triumph we assembled on the Lido deck and were released from there.

On Inspiration I was in Showroom once, near casino, and some areas were right on Lido near the boats. Disabled were told to stay in their stations and would be assisted if necessary. All the stations except lido were on Promenade deck.

On the Magic we met in the MDR and were told to go there in case of emergency and would be led to lifeboats. Much more comfortable than being pressed together on deck on the Triumph!

Yep, all three musters on the Magic have been in MDR. Way better than being told I need to cram in like a sardine on the Triumph next to the lifeboats!

Ships these size are not going to sink in minutes. There is still plenty of time to get on a boat in an emergency when you're not meeting by the lifeboats.

Even the Titanic took 2hrs and 40mins to sink.

Your muster station IS the location where you are told to go, whether it be a deck at the lifeboats, a dining room, a lounge, etc.

In the event of an emergency, you meet at your designated muster station. You will then be guided by assigned crew TO the lifeboats. One reason for this is in case access to the lifeboats is blocked, etc., they will be in constant communication and know the most safe and fastest route to your lifeboats. This is why they stress meeting where you are assigned to meet, rather than where WE think we should go! ;)

We had the same thing on the Dream, watched a video to simulate the drill. Much better than just the talk.

You go to the meeting area (showroom, dining room, lounge) first in the event of an emergency, and then the crew will lead you to your designated life boats.

But it all depends on the ship. Each ship does it slightly different.
