sparky-elpaso Posted July 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2013 Maybe they have to lower and test some of the lifeboats on that side. I think they have to test all of them in some kind of rotation.
macruisefan Posted July 20, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted July 20, 2013 I'm sure that's it. Still interesting to see... Makes me wonder which way I'll be facing at sail away....
Clarea Posted July 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2013 Maybe a lifeboat drill on the starboard side?
ChaCr Posted July 20, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2013 Lifeboat things are the most common. But, perhaps they need to do some painting on the shore side today. charles

Mark_K Posted July 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted July 20, 2013 This is exactly why when people ask which side of the ship gives you the best view in a certain port, the answer should be it depends on which way the captain decides to park it. Did not realize they are gone. I will be on her next month, starboard side. I like that side for the Western Caribbean sailings on Oasis and Allure. I like that side for the Western Caribbean sailings on Oasis and Allure. The smokestacks were imploded on Tuesday morning to make way for more efficient ones. It was shown LIVE on the webcam. wmp.dll Posted July 20, 2013 #14 Share Posted July 20, 2013 What's amazing to me is watching them turn those gigantic ships around! It is a miracle of Science! I agree! The manoeuvrability of these cruise ships I amazing. I know Freedom is smaller, but on my cruise when we were coming into St Thomas, Carnival Glory and Disney Dream I believe had beat us to the dock. So the only spot for us was in the middle between the two. And I was thinking "how is the captain gonna parallel park this thing?". But you don't even really notice the bow is already swinging around. And he inserted us just so inbetween carnival and disney. It was something really cool to experience. Can't wait to experience things like that on the Allure

CRUISEFAN0001 Posted July 21, 2013 #19 Share Posted July 21, 2013 We've seen Oasis parked in both directions on that webcam before. When asked, the port folks said they do that to accommodate certain maintenance and supply loading work.
