which direction will entertainment go?

Do they really charge for shows?

Only for those which include a meal -- the lunch show and dinner shows.

Again.. they are optional! Plenty of FREE food abounds... plenty of FREE entertainment as well! :)

There is a strong demand for most shows/showtimes. Earlier this week I made our reservations for both entertainment and specialty restaurants. Technically, in that regard, "Freestyle" it ain't - but can be that way if you desire (desire to stand in a line to see if people don't show up to their reserved show)! :D

This type of comment always makes me scratch my head. What can you do on a cruise that you can't do elsewhere? Nothing.

If I want a pool I know several people that have one. If I want to go to the beach I live very close and can go for the day. If i want to gamble i can go to a casino or vegas. The point of it being on a ship is to offer options for those that do like them and can't get to somewhere like NYC or Vegas to see a show.

Nothing wrong with options. What makes you scratch your head, just because it does not fit your thought process? I don't want to see a cheap broadway imatation, I prefer the real thing. Keep scratching.

I was not knocking it, just never heard of it before. Dinner shows actually sound kind of nice.

They certainly are not cheap, thats for sure. But for me, imatation just does not cut it.

Since I've no desire to ever travel to NYC to catch a Broadway show, I'll settle for the "imitation".

We have, however, seen many top notch shows in Vegas. With Vegas out there, can't ever imagining taking a vacation to NYC! :D

We caught the Cirque show on both of our Epic sailings. At that point they had "premium" and "standard" seating. The standard seats (second floor - in the round - overlooking the show) were better seats and, at $20, a better deal. On the Breakaway they've done away with the two tiers of seats, figuratively and literally! Now you'll pay more... I am not interested at $39.99 !

The Playlist Productions are a joke and IMO not worth the effort to go see. We would love some type dinner show and/or Murder Mystery show. Would be willing to pay for these. Instead, we skip the shows and spend time people watching on Promenade with a bottle of wine, with occasional trips to the slots.

Saw a snip it of it on a show called "Mighty Ships" (on the Epic) on some cable channel. Looked kind of cool.

I agree, they are a joke. On the Breeze, I really did think it was a joke. I was waiting for the real show to start. When it finally sunk in, we got up and left.

The women in the group particularly liked the shirtless guy in the bathtub when the water was poured on him...

I think an hour to hour and a half shows are perfect. If they could mix it up with broadway, variety, magician/comedian, musical concert, etc. on different nights, I think that would be great. The best entertainment I've seen on ships so far have been on Disney and Epic. If Carnival could bring on that type of quality it would be awesome. But then I paid more to sail on those ships than I did on any Carnival Cruise I've been on so I don't really expect it from Carnival. IMHO great entertainment is one of the sacrafices of sailing cheaper on Carnival....I'm not saying Carnival's entertainment is bad, it's just not great.

While I was personally disappointed with the entertainment on the Breeze, I don't have any better ideas. To be honest, I have fallen asleep pre and post entertainment changes, while in the show. One thing I can tell you, longer is not better in my book.

Agreed! The Playlist Productions are horrible. I was on the Conquest's first sailing out of dry dock last October, and they had technical issues with The Brits and could not show it on the night it was scheduled. One of the performers, I think his name was Chris, volunteered to entertain us. He did a one man show called "The Flying Scotsman", and it was, hands down, the best show I have ever seen on a cruise ship. Carnival seriously needs more shows like this, plus I'm sure it is a lot cheaper than a full production show, so it is a win-win situation.

When they got the bugs worked out and were able to show "The Brits" later in the week, it was so bad, we got up and walked out. The performers weren't bad, because Chris was actually in this show. It was just the whole premise, with the cartoon backdrops and such. Very cheesy.

I seem to remember John Heald making a comment not too long ago asking how everyone likes the Playlist, and I think he was blown away by how many respondants said they hated it.

And while hoping something would change, he got got his pronouns mixed up, stating that he sees that SOME are stating their displeasure.

And then assume it was tossed into the Carnival black hole.

Productions shows generate no direct revenue and are just a black hole. Now wine drinking and slot playing?

People watching on the Promenade, or Atrium, or Lido is not a whole lot different than people watching on the stage. It seems a few don't like to admit it, but people watching seems to be a favorite pastime of many, whether in an airport, cruise ship, whatever.

Sounds Gerryesque. Four sentences, devoid of content. :p
