Productions shows generate no direct review and are just a black hole. Now wine drinking and slot playing?

 

People watching on the Promenade, or Atrium, or Lido is not a whole lot different than people watching on the stage. It seems a few don't like to admit it, but people watching seems to be a favorite pastime of many, whether in an airport, cruise ship, whatever.

 

Assuming you meant revenue, neither do staterooms, pools, slides, mini golf, or hot tubs. They are part of your fare.

Of course staterooms add to the bottom line.

I agree. I am not a show person. I actually went to see Diva's on the Breeze b/c people on this board talked about how bad it was for MONTHS. I really wanted to see how bad it really is compared to the old shows. I thought it was different but not bad. I did not enjoy it any less than the old shows that I didn't enjoy to begin with.

The answer to Carnival's entertainment already exists in the fleet. Look at the Dream and Magic. On each ship you have a single *hey everyone, go see this* show in Dancin' in the Streets and Destination Unknown. On other nights you have fly-in entertainers or less expensive shows.

 

Carnival would have to have 2 levels of shows-- call them A shows and B shows. Each A show would be longer, more expensive, and specific to a single ship; not as expensive as RCI or NCL's stuff, but on the order of Dancin' in the Street. B shows would be approximately like the existing playlist productions-- shorter, less expensive, and put on multiple ships including ones with 3-5 day itineraries.

 

People wouldn't be complaining about the Breeze's shows if they replaced one of their new shows with something that was the equivalent of Dancin' in the Streets or Destination Unknown. How much worse would Dream cruises be if their show lineup was changed to Divas, Dancin' in the Streets, and Motor City? I could be wrong, but I don't think there would be as many complaints.

We saw one memorable show on the Dream in Feb. I remember being really happy because it ended with Bye Bye Bye from N Sync! (Ha dating myself there, oh well, I LOVE 90s music!) and I enjoyed that one. The other memorable one is Legends of course, because I've been Britney twice, and my friends and family have played a bunch of characters. I genuinely enjoyed that musical production with the music of generations and the dancers worked hard. (Maybe that was Dancin' in the Street??) Having been in the back stage, they are constantly rehearsing and put a LOT of effort into their dancing. I sometimes don't think the CCL dancers get enough credit. On the Triumph in 2011, there was a great "international" show with like Japanese fan dancing and even French oolala cancan. That was also a memorable one. Most of the other shows featured 'popping and locking' dancers and neon lights like America's Got Talent or something...

 

Its been since 2002 since I was on an RCI, and I remember ABSOLUTELY nothing about that ship (not even it's name!) except for how amazing Hawaii was. So I'm outta the loop for their latest entertainment, but for me, no one beats Disney for live entertainment. (Golden Mickeys was spectacular, Villains was hysterical acting sooo funny after the ghosty part of the show was over, and Believe was alright but seeing more Lion King, Pocahontas and Beauty & Beast numbers redeemed it's silly plot.) Pretty sure that Cruise Critic shows that (DCL Fantasy # 1, but RCI Allure #2, and then DCL Dream #3 and then basically alternating NCL and RCI), for best large ship for entertainment. Even my A-D-D husband sat thru 100% of them and tells everyone how great the shows are, and he doesn't even love Disney music as much as I do. (Born n raised on Phantom & Mermaids.) They had pretty packed shows too. I remember my honey even said that those shows were a $50 ticket value! Has anyone ever felt that way about CCL?

 

It shows the Broadway style shows ARE still popular on cruises!

That would be fine with me. I like having the ship to myself.

 

If you want lavish shows, having to make reservations for tickets, and paying too much for your cruise, Carnival may not be for you.

 

My cruise schedule does not revolve around a show on a moving stage.

I think Carnival has figured out a lot of passengers aren't show people.

personally i think they should take the showrooms out at the next drydock and add more cabins.

Bill... I was going to say "don't give them ideas", but we all know how they think. If they could get away with that, they would... in a heartbeat. Actually in a drydock that runs out of time before the ship goes back into service. :)

I don't recall the name of it but they selected a guy from the audience to be the contestant for these game shows. It was STUPID!! I couldn't believe they actually were calling this a show.

We've already seen the direction - multi-purpose venues - because everyone is different. Distributed around the ship to load balance. Huge theaters are wasted space, most of the time.

 

I'm sure Carnival has figured in that a handful of people might switch to other cruise lines.

This is their master plan. Put on crappy so called shows, people will leave and go to the casino or a bar and spend their $$$$.
