I arranged my morning routine with him, what for breakfast and when, to leave even if i wasn't up etc.

Asked him to refill missing water and sodas (i had premium beverage package so he did it).

Asked him to leave assortment of afternoon snacks even if i wasn't in room...!

Give him anything you need pressed ASAP as it won't come back till tomorrow, especially if tomorrow would be a formal night.

Have him find out any times you need to know, early disembarkation, VIP tender tickets, specialty dining times etc, just tell him what you are doing and he can then make sure all is in order. If traveling with others, let him know so dinners and certain extras can be handled as needed.

Also understand first night they are crazy busy finalizing rooms and handling all the meet and greets of new passengers and handling 1st nights service.....its been a long day for them!

Hi,

We only fold our clothes (especially mine) in our luggages, so when we get in our cabin, we have to unfold and hang them. Does the butler (even on the 1st day) can put the clothes on the hangers and hang them in the closet?

Thank you

Not in our experience. We wouldn't even think to ask, since they're extremely busy that 1st day. Ours, however, did prove to be the best extra money spent on a suite (2001) when we left our son's medications in a rental car on Grand Cayman. We didn't discover it until 2 hrs after the ship left Grand Cayman. I was almost hysterical. When our butler walked in with afternoon tea, he knew immediately something was wrong. Once he learned of our predicament, he escorted my husband to the radio room. DH didn't return until an hour and a half later. I learned that most of that time, he'd been on the ship's phone to our doctor in the states, the pharmacy at home, the rental company on the island, and UPS, which the butler suggested, arranging for the meds to be air shipped to the next port, Key West. Our butler arranged for someone else to cover his station while he stayed with DH and also spoke to medical aboard ship to see if they had the meds DS required. They didn't.

Those minutes on the ship's phone added up to a hefty charge, which was never billed to us. Our butler's kindness, concern, and quick thinking earned him a huge tip, way over and above anything we've ever given before or since. And, yes, the meds were waiting for us in Key West. UPS truck was sitting on the pier when the ship arrived!

It is my understanding that they offer unpacking and packing service. It is prominently displayed on their list of services so you should feel free to ask. I also heard that they require you to be in the room at the time of the service, just FYI. Enjoy!!

We sailed on century 3 times this year, twice in a SS. - We really didn't ask our butler for anything extra or take advantage of the service they offered to the fullest. Our only special request was an afternoon latte...i hope you are fortunate to get any of the butlers we got to know, they were amazing.

What you request from your butler should be what YOU want, not what everyone else wants. The butler is there to make YOUR cruise great. He would be worn out trying to make the whole of Cruise Critic happy on one cruise. How would he serve the remain suites for which he is responsible.

Ask for more than you want and you may find the service intrusive. I do not drink coffee. I would be stupid to order my cappuccinos because I was "entitled" to them.

For people who are not staying in suites and do not have a butler:

If you should ever encounter a situation such as the one previously described that requires a sudden, unexpected need to make special arrangements for services from people at different locations, just contact the ship's concierge, who specializes in handling problems of that type.

We learned that years ago when we ran into somewhat unusual and complicated circumstances that necessitated contacting and coordinating arrangements with people at distant locations in different time zones.

We were not staying in a suite and did not have a butler.

Not knowing what to do, we went to Guest Relations. They immediately referred us to the concierge, who handled everything calmly and flawlessly, knowing exactly how to go about it.

I got the impression that they really enjoy the challenge of problem solving and helping out passengers who have unusual situations. :)

We always ask for cheese and fruit, a lot of ice (and also ask that the bulter put our bottled water in the ice for us when we are not there). We ask for extra towels and sometimes body pillows. We ask that he place the life vests under the bed so we have more closet room. We ask that he not bring those funky tea sandwiches or whatever those weird bologna-like things are. If you are into the shrimp cocktail, ask for some. We do not like the quality so we stick with the cheese and fruit. We also asked for some sweets from Al Bacio and he was happy to get for us. Enjoy your cruise.
