I will be on the Pride next week and was wondering if anyone knows if they will be showing any of the pre season NHL games in the sports bar.

I know right now it's Football season, but there is always hope :p

TIA

Nancy

Hi Nancy!

Hope you can catch a Habs game - but it's not sounding good :(

Hope all is well :)

You should be able to watch a hockey game, if only because it is the best sport in the world! However, I doubt you will be able to as the majority seems to want to watch those poor excuses for sports - baseball and football. :D Go HABS!

I grew up in the states, but my parents were born and raised in Montreal, so I inherited the hockey gene. But when I grew up in souther PA, NO ONE watched hockey. Now, there are a lot of NHL fans around, so things are improving in the US.

HEY! Ummmm.....there is hockey in Texas, and plenty of it. The Stars as well as about 5 different junior teams within the DFW metroplex.

We were on the Freedom during the playoffs this past May, and while there was a Blackhawks-Red Wings game being shown on NBC in the sports bar, the Miami Heat were also playing. There was dang near a fight when the basketball fans and Lebron homers screamed at the bartender to turn on the basketball game. The basketball homers got the audio and the majority of the TV's. People were calling guest services to complain, to no avail. Basketball homers won out. Having been involved with hockey for over 40 years, I don't need audio for an announcer to tell me what's going on in a hockey game.

Edited to add: Go Irish hockey!

this past march on a RC cruise me and the GF just bought some internet time to check scores and update our fantasy rosters. it was during march madness so even getting to see a score on the espn sports ticker required long periods of sometimes futile waiting. we did get treated to an actual hockey highlight on sportscenter when broduer came back from an injury and "scored" a goal. would be nice to see a game or two on the glory next month.

LETS GO DEVILS!

Unless the games are on the main network channels-abc, NBC, CBS, or on ESPN or ESPN Desportes, you will not be able to view. I have been thru this many times with my hockey addict husband. Now we do not cruise in May or June. We do go to Cozumel during those months, but I know exactly where to go to watch the playoffs! LOL

Can you explain what you mean.

you just have to look and see where they are from Colorado, what a joke.... they got that loser for a coach now!! Walks out on the Canadians.... Starts a brawl in junior hockey..... cant wait to see what idiotic moves he makes next.

It seems like there are quite a few Red Wing fans that cruise which explains why Carnival does not tend to show hockey games. :)

Actually, it's because Wings fans are everywhere. Not just cruisers ;) Take a look at the stands at any Red Wings away game. Sometimes there's just as many Wings fans as there are home team fans. It's what tends to happen when your team has been one of the best in the entire history of the NHL, and being one of the original 6 means we've had generations of loyal fans ;) LGRW!!!!

Nope...My DS(19) is an aspiring sports writer. He has an internship with an on-line sports site writing 2 Red Wings articles a week. Hockey is alive and well in our house:D... Go Wings!

Go Lightning!! Just putting my team in there. I Love hockey and live in Fl lol

Yeah, I was referring to the (former, because the Avs have been pretty bad) Avalanche/Wing rivalry. Not trying to be offensive, just having fun and showing that there are hockey fans further down the map also. I actually really respect the Wings.

I don't know that it is fair to call Roy a "loser", he has a pretty good record. I also don't know that you can blame him for asking (demanding) to be traded from the Habs in that game, he was left out to dry, and he was pretty young. I agree, some of his behavior coaching Juniors was a bit rough, particularly when it came to coaching his son, but I believe he has said that he regretted that and has apologized. We know that he is passionate, sometimes overly, but I think that is a very good thing, especially if he can keep it in check. But lets be honest, a coach fight might be kinda fun (kidding, kinda, not really, yeah I'm kidding, mostly).

Now, this is a huge step for the team compared to what we had in Sacco, anything would be... If nothing else the post-game interviews are going to be exciting, I'm pretty excited and cautiously optimistic. The atmosphere in Denver has changed dramatically, having Sakic on board doesn't hurt either!

  • 1 month later...

GO(LF) HABS GO(LF)!!

at least it's not the leafs... phew!

i talked to my travel planner at carnival about a month ago about this, as I'm sailing in January and refuse to miss watching one of my good friends play (he plays for the Ottawa Senators). There are 8 of us going on the cruise together and 4 of us are good friends with him.

I was told that if the game is being shown on one of the channels that the ship normally picks up, it'll be shown in the EA Sports bar and will be shown wherever it can (especially when requested). Now, I live in Canada, so games are on TSN, Sportsnet and CBC... only one has an american affiliate, ESPN. I doubt there are many broadcasts of games in the US except for local channels in the coordinating areas, like MSGTV (madison square garden tv, i believe) in NY, NESN (i'm guessing New Enland Sports Network) in Boston, etc.

When i was on board the Celebrity Solstice there was only whatever basketball games on ESPN in the rooms. There was the odd baseball game too, now that I think of it. But come April 30th I showed up at Guest Services in my hockey jersey and asked if there's hockey anywhere. there wasn't. I requested a block of internet time sufficient to watch a few games on my ipad, as i subscribe to NHL GameCentre. I figured out the cost to be about $40/game in the end... i watched th games at the casino bar and a few handfuls of passengers joined me every night to watch (mostly canadians, as my jersey attracts them, of course). When the free internet ran out, i put up a tip cup that said "tips for hockey/internet costs" and the canadians donated $100 the first night, so we got to watch a game the next night. Thankfully by the time I got home, Ottawa wasn't eliminated so i got to go to two round 2 playoff games here in town. But I'll be disappointed if there's no hockey on board. i should check the schedule to see if we're at least playing in the states where it's likelier that they'll be televised there...

Boy, if you think trying to find an NHL game on in the sports bar is bad, try finding a CFL game!:(

GO ARGOS :)

sorry about your argos. Go Riders! Remember that feeling of the argos winning IN toronto? We want that feeling this year. :)

We were on Carnival, sailing away the day the Kings won the Stanley Cup. We thought for sure we were going to be able to see the whole thing because it was a nationally televised broadcast.

As soon as we got on board, We must've asked every single bartender with a TV if he would be showing the game and they all said they would.

Our in room TVs lost the game the second we started sailing, and we could not find one TV on board with the game on.

Of course, panic set in… But eventually about an hour or two after we started sailing, the game was on. It was just the beginning of the second period, so we were relieved.

Hopefully your game isn't on as you are sailing away.

The bartender at EA should be able to attend it into the game as long as it isn't on NHL network, I would think.

If anybody in the bar objects to you watching hockey, just forecheck them. ;)

I'm Canadian. i can forecheck, backcheck AND crosscheck! but i just checked the schedule and it looks like all my teams' games are playing on canadian networks that week except for the saturday night game against the rangers, which "might" be available, we'll see... no wait, never mind. it's a canadian national broadcast because the game is in Ottawa (Hockey Night in Canada). i think the only american national broadcast i found that week was some Anaheim game. (sigh) There's hope for the Capitals/Penguins game too, as it's telling me it's on TSN2, which ESPN mirrors a lot of their programming, so we might get that one.

Oh well... :(

I'll send a message out to my boys so they can get over it now, and not bum them out on board... Add that the NCAA football championship is the week before we board. Super bummer. Last year we watched it on board with a ton of Tide fans. It was super fun. We even made these green shirts with clovers on them that say "kiss me, I roll tide". We've since sent them to a few tide fans i know in alabama so they can wear them on st patrick's day.

JUST FOUND THIS: http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/schedule?categoryId=142&year=2013&seasonState=regular-season&month=1&week=0&scheduleDayCode=2014-1-12

decided to check fox sports and they had more info than my NHL GameCentre info had :D

there's a shred of hope in there. even if it's "Fox Sports Detroit" (FSDT) and "Fox Sports Ohio" (FSOH) etc
