Drinking while on vacation

I think you know what I meant by "drink" an alcoholic drink. To each his own...if alcohol affects a family in a negative way it has an affect that's to be remembered. Many people can drink alcohol who aren't alcoholics but I'm just saying that a bit of consideration to those that are alcoholics and have quit would be nice in my opinion. Just like an alcoholic I don't think should work in a bar, it'd be nice if they could cruise without having it constantly in their face. Of course my brother and his wife (both functioning alcoholics) love it in their face so they wouldn't have a problem. Can't stand to be around someone who can't go a day without getting a buzz or getting drunk...and I'm not talking about a vacation, I'm talking about in every day life. Oh I guess I forgot to mention it has my female cousin in a wheel chair...yep good ole alcoholism runs in my family. It's why I don't.

Edited to add, how about a button or something that a guest could wear that let the servers know not to offer alcoholic drinks to them. Just a small pin on or something that would alert them (note I put the burden on the alcoholics and not the "drinkers". Just a thought.

I will say though that "merely because some are alcoholics" is, to me, trivializing but perhaps that's not how you meant it. So sorry if it's not but it's not "merely an alcoholic" it's a terrible thing.

But when a server comes around asking if you want a drink, you can order anything you want. They don't ask if you want an alcoholic drink. Do you mean that servers should only distribute non-alcoholic drinks?

No, I don't mean to trivialize alcoholism. But there are alcoholics in every bar, in every restaurant, in every club, at every resort, at (almost) every family gathering. That doesn't mean that these places should be dry, or that it should be difficult for others to get alcohol if they desire.

(And do you really think that alcoholics would wear that button you posit? Not if they want to drink, they won't. And if they don't want to drink, they don't need the button. Every cruise has a Friends of Bill W meeting).

yeah...I mean I am not a religious person; I'm getting a little fed up with all these religious services available all over the dang ship.

what if I accidently pass by a mass, or baptism, or (god forbid) a bar mitzvah? - I could get sucked back into the whole darn mess.

Wow! The comments on this thread are getting more and more juvenile. Time to jump ship on this one and spend my time on the threads where the adults are.

I agree with this. Even in RCCL where they pushed drinks (hard and soft) constantly, I was never asked if I wanted alcohol, just if I cared for something to drink or a beverage.

To be honest, someone recently In recovery should probably not cruise or take a vacation anywhere that there is a lot of temptation like an all-inclusive resort. I have a number of friends in recovery, and those who have their five and ten year coin don't struggle as much these days. They still attend meetings, but could order a soft drink or simply say no without hesitation or temptation. The one who is only six months into recovery stills struggles daily and would not be at all ready to take a vacation with alcohol so readily available, even if her sponsor and family were with her.

First of all why does it matter to you what other people do while on vacation? If they aren't bothering you, let it go~

As for me, I just came back from a weekend in Laughlin and drank the whole weekend, on Sunday had about 6 island flowers (mimosa with cranberry juice) and then switched to beer probably had about 8. Yes I was still walking and talking, didn't upset any of the other people in the casino. No one could probably tell I'd had that much to drink, not even my husband~and you know what..... it's no ones business~ happy cruising to you and yours
