WeRockChalkKU Posted December 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2013 On the HAL site, I see the wines that are listed for the wine packages and it says "from a wonderful selection that includes" and apparently doesn't list all of the wines you can choose from. Does anyone have a current complete list of those wines? We are sailing on the Noordam if that matters. This is our first cruise as 3 star Mariners and we thought we might give the package a try since we'd get our discount. Thanks for your response. OVgirl Posted December 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2013 If you are referring to the Navigator Wine Package, then yes the list they show is complete. There are not a lot of choices for these packages. Might be a good idea to wait until you board to purchase on of these packages. Sometimes on the first night they have a table set up for tasting and buying the package.
sail7seas Posted December 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2013 Please know that sometimes not all wines listed are available. There are inevitably some wines out of stock.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 22, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2013 We have only done a wine package a couple of times. But when we did, we waited until we were on the ship to find out exactly what wines were available in the various packages. We thought the Admirals package was much better than the Navigators. And yes, there are times when all the wines may not be available. The price is the same whether you pre-order or wait until you are on the ship to purchase a package. sail7seas Posted December 22, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 22, 2013 We purchased the Admirals package once. When we went to select which wines we wanted, there were none that suited us. We got an immediate refund and never looked at the wine packages again. Perhaps it was low inventory the cruise this happened to us but we didn't care for the selection. Rare Vict0riann Posted December 22, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 22, 2013 We always order a wine package when we go to the MDR for dinner the first evening. That way we meet the wine steward, and can discuss what we want with him/her. They seem to remember us after that. I think when you look up the package you have to click on it to make it tell you what the wines are!
Typhoon1 Posted December 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 23, 2013 We've had one of the wine packages, it was pretty mediocre at best. Wait until you are onboard, speak to a wine steward to find something to your liking.

Krazy, Thank you that valuable info! We're new to HA sailing for the first time on the Rotterdam. On Oceania, you can buy wines by the bottle onboard for a discount, (if you buy more than 3 bottles). They store the wine for you and you can order the wines you've purchased from the wine steward in any of the dining venues. They will store open bottles as well. This worked out well as we rarely finished a bottle at one sitting. How does HA handle delivering wine that you've purchased? Do you have to carry it to the restaurant or do they store the wine for you? Bernie
frbob Posted December 24, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 24, 2013 [quote=boooomer;41043533 How does HA handle delivering wine that you've purchased? Do you have to carry it to the restaurant or do they store the wine for you? Bernie You can buy wine packages and are usually able to pre-select your wines, either for keeping in the DR wine locker or delivered to your stateroom. There's no charge for carrying your package wines (or any wines purchased onboard) from your stateroom to any DR, but you might be "interrogated" about where you got the bottles (somewhat annoying). Ordering wines "off package" will open the entire wine list for your consideration, but prices are very high. I'm not a fan of the HAL wine list, either in price or quality, but that's a subjective opinion. Hope this helps.
KirkNC Posted December 24, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 24, 2013 With the packages you don't preselect the wines, you pick them each night one at a time.
frankc98376 Posted December 24, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 24, 2013 We liked a few of the wines on the Canaletto list. Possible to order these in Pinnacle or have them delivered to cabin and hand carry to dinner?
dobbsie Posted December 24, 2013 #12 Share Posted December 24, 2013 On our Grand Voyage the Amsterdam often ran out of the wines in the packages. They did replace them with a wine of equal or greater cost (from the general wine list). If we desired to take a bottle or two to our cabin we simply asked our wine steward and he had them delivered to the cabin. We are 4 star Mariners, so the 50% discount is a great draw. The wines are certainly limited, but we never had a problem choosing one, especially the reds. Have a great cruise.
innlady1 Posted December 24, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 24, 2013 Don't get me started here...bottom line is HAL's wine list is extremely limited...yet, with the new wine policy, we're no longer allowed to bring more than one bottle on board per person. :(

Perhaps, the new policy might entice them to stock some new wines.
