CCL Drink Package questions

I haven't been on CCL for a few years, and was wondering the details of their unlimited drink package, if they have one. I have just done a RCI cruise with their package, at 55.00 per day for drinks up to 10.00 basically. Does Carnival offer one similar?

Carnival does off something called the Cheers Program. There are limitations to it. If you go to Carnivals website, FAQ area and click on life on board tab, then type in Cheers program it will give you price description and limitations. Or you can call them and they will explain. There are several threads on CC about this, but it seems many people have different explanations of this so IMO its best to go to the main source for correct info.:). I personally have been doing research on this but the fact that they make everyone in the cabin over 21 buy the package just makes the price seem way too much for us. Hope this helps!

This thread sums it up really well (you don't have to read the whole thing)

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1792047

Basically there is a limit of 15 drinks per day. Some people have been able to continue to drink after reaching 15 (paying for the extra drinks), others have been cut off. Others have been told when they reach 13 or 14 that if they start paying they can continue. It doesn't seem to be a rule that is enforced equally across the board.

Drinks can be up to $10.

You are correct, perhaps beyond silly.

I don't understand the appeal of drinking 15 alcoholic drinks in a day. I mean, after you've passed out/had security escort you back to your room, how much fun are you really having?

It's not that I don't drink (splitting a fishbowl in RedFrog is fun!) but it's the thought process of "I need to make sure I drink at least 8 beers today to not lose money on the drink card" that takes the fun out of it. At least for me.

It has been my experience that the 15 drink limit is an absolute cut off. Others, not surprisingly, find this not to be the case. It causes a bit of confusion as I have found that I can not buy with cash or otherwise a bucket of beers. Similarly, a virgin frozen drink for my son gets hit to my card against the limit.

Again, I don't think the rules are consistent applied so YUMV.

If I do an itinerary that I stay on the ship for the port then I guess it matters a little haha mostly joking tho, I'm just really surprised it isn't similar to RCI

I think I got your humor, the reason why it is not the same is they are trying to control the out of control drinking. When they started it, it did not have hard limit. They learned quickly. It is def a balancing act.

I think its also ironic considering how carnival is considered the party cruise line and RCI is more classy but RCI has the truly unlimited booze package. I personally don't think I would drink over 15drinks a day, but not havig soft drinks or red bull included is a bummer

It DOES include soft drinks and non-alcoholic frozen drinks in unlimited quantities. Red bull, is not included from what I understand, though. You can have it with one of your 15 drinks, but not separate as part of Cheers. Read it on the Carnival site, it really tells you what's included.

I'd probably do it but the amount of calories I would consume would be astronomical! Last cruise DH drank beer and I may have had 1 drink a day average. He gained 10 pounds, I gained 3. I'm sure I would have gained as much if not more than him if I had unlimited drinks.

Someone mentioned I could buy a package on board which includes soda, water and non alcoholic drinks only. Anyone know more about this and the cost?

There is a soda package called Bottomless Bubbles, but I haven't done a lot of reading on it.

Carnival Cruise Lines will offer all guests the option to purchase a "Bottomless Bubbles" unlimited soda program which will allow the guest unlimited soft drinks and juices for the duration of the cruise at a one-time purchase price. The program can be purchased at the ship's Casino Bar and Pool Bar. Upon purchasing the program, a sticker will be placed on the guest's Sail & Sign card.

In all areas where beverage service is offered, guests may show the "Bottomless Bubbles" sticker and receive a glass of the carbonated soft drink of their choice. Juices may also be requested. One 16 ounce glass will be served at a time and only to the guest whose name appears on the Sail & Sign card with the "Bottomless Bubbles" sticker attached.

Pricing:

  • Child Rate: $4.50/Day (17 years of age and younger)
  • Adult Rate: $6.00/Day (18 years of age and older)
  • A 15% gratuity will be added to price when purchasing the program.
  • Optional: A Carnival soft drink tumbler may be purchased for an additional $4.95 with the program or for $9.95 without the program.
  • Pricing is subject to sales tax when purchased prior to the cruise or at port. You can purchase on the first night, or the next morning to avoid the taxes while in international waters.

Details:

  • "Bottomless Bubbles" Unlimited Soda Program is non-transferable and may not be shared. Guests or family members who would like to enjoy soft drinks through this program must purchase their own sticker.
  • One beverage serving, per sticker, will be served at a time.
  • Soft drink is served by the glass (16 ounces); juice is served by the glass (10 ounces).
  • The program cannot be used through room service or the Interactive TV system, where applicable, or the minibar, where applicable.
  • The "Bottomless Bubbles" Unlimited Soda Program can be used in Half Moon Cay.
  • The "Bottomless Bubbles" Unlimited Soda Program can only be purchased on the day of embarkation or the next day. After the first full cruise day it is no longer available for purchase.
  • Must be purchased for entire cruise, not available by the day. You are charged by the length of cruise left. So, if you purchase the second day your price is cheaper.
  • Carnival offers these soda beverages fleet wide: Coke, Caffeine Free Coke, Diet Coke, Caffeine Free Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Sprite Zero, Barq's Root Beer, Fanta Orange, and Ginger Ale.
  • Ships sailing out of the ports of Galveston & New Orleans will also offer: Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper. All other ports will offer Pibb Xtra instead of the Dr. Pepper products.
  • Club soda and tonic water are also included under this program.
