When to expect guaranty cabin assignment?

Just got back from the NCL Sun to Alaska.

Had a balcony guarantee.

They gave me an aft, floor 9 balcony (2nd to the back of the ship), which was a great location because most things on the Sun are at the back of the ship.

'

They assigned it to me about 50 days out, so I had plenty of time to buy a second cabin nearby.

Just booked an inside on the Pearl. They ran out of insides and I am now stuck with a window. He he.

That really stinks :D!

I was looking up my balcony gty on the Epic and noticed that the only things that are left are balcony guarantees on upper level balcony cabins... is that good things to come?? I hope so. A girl could always dream.

40 days to go. No cabin as of this evening. But we've been getting our fix watching cruise ships come in and out of Vancouver while we have been on vacation here the past 2 days. Be nice to at least have them by day 30.

Good luck, hope you get a great cabin. I'm of the opinion that any cabin on a ship is a good thing so hopefully, which is why I hope it'll be great!!

We love Vancouver and visit as often as possible.

Enjoy your cruise.

Hi Clojacks,

Watching the ships is so nice; what a fine addition to your vacation.

We are still waiting, too. We have 36 days to go now. I check each day, but day 30-29 will be a milestone. I have read on cc that gty's may get edocs then. Even without an assignment, having edoc would be a small step. I do hope we have an assignment before we leave for Europe 4 days before the cruise so we can print proper documents and luggage tags. if not, we will get the porters to tag the bags at the pier....we have had to do that when we have last minute cabin upgrades. I am glad we booked when we did as prices have greatly increased and availability has decreased; I'm glad we will be on the ship.

Im wondering... We booked a GTY Mini-suite on the Jewel for 12/13. Still not Cabin assignment. I mock booked on NCL website and it said Mid-ship Minisuites are soldout. Checked on our TA website and it is showing as 10 still available. Not sure what to think. I will be glad with the very aft MX designated cabins so anything better will be gravy. I would love to get one of those midship cabins but not very likely. I would just like to have the Cabin assigned so I can be set and start knowing/planning on how to get around the ship. So I will continue to be patient and wait.

Take care all.

Jodie

Hi Jodie,

Jewel class is pretty easy to navigate, so do not worry if you don't know your cabin number for a while. you have loads of time to plan.

You are still well before final payment, so keep an eye on prices. Maybe the price of your gty category will drop; if so you likely will be able to get the lower price (though if your cabin was assigned before the dmaybes along such a price drop would put you back into the gty pool, so be sure it is worth it). Or maybe the price of those mid ship cabins will drop and you could pick your own cabin.

some times travel agencies are able to place a hold on blocks of cabins to sell to customers before final payment. So that may be why you see cabins one place and not another. Or just an IT blip; hard to know.

good luck with the assignment.

Thanks Wendy.. This the the first time we've done GTY and I am a planner/researcher. Planning/Researching is part of the whole Vacation for me. We are paid in full. We usually pay in full at booking with Tips paid, that way we know it is all done and we only need to save our spending money.

I know that someone else has been assigned one of the designated GTY "MX" staterooms so.... Like said before, we will be happy with any Cabin, we are cruising.

I will watch for any price drops for Mid-ship but I doubt they will go low enough to make a difference. We got the Minisuite GTY for $749. But I will pay attention to it.

Thanks for the assurance regarding the size of ship. We like to smaller ships so not a lot of walking. I have heard that the Jewel is a great ship and we are looking forward to sailing.

Take Care.

Jodie

Finally got our cabin today, 37 days out, and my apprehension with the GTY OA category was realized. My lack of research shot me in the foot on this one as we ended up in the "upgraded" O1 category Deck 5 forward. I didn't realize that NCL considered O1 an upgrade from OA until someone mentioned it on here. And instead of being in an OA on deck 8, now we are down on deck 5. I would gladly downgrade to an OA, But not even sure if it is possible or who to contact. My fault.... I know! But how ANYONE could consider that an upgrade is beyond me. Does anyone know if there is ANY single cabin feature that a reasonable cruiser would consider an upgrade in an O1 versus an OA?

Well look at the bright side ,at least is not one of the 4 O1's on deck 6 next to the casino bathrooms .

I think all you could do now is to pay for an upgrade to a balcony .:(

Hope you have a good cruise . :)

The way they classify cabins now is Unfortunate for people booking gty at any but the base of the meta category. I suppose they were trying to place connecting cabins (desired by families) in a higher category, so they would not be gobbled up by those just seeking cheaper cabins. But to classify them higher than OA seems backward to me.

To answer your question, on some diagrams the most forward OA's seem to be smaller as the hull curves in toward the bow. they might also get anchor noise. I have not been in those cabins, so I do not know if they are really smaller or not. If those are smaller, I guess some O1 might be better cabins...maybe.

Is your cruise still showing as sold out? if so, it will be hard for you to move even if you were willing to pay.

I'm still waiting for my IX assignment. 33 days out.

Any update? Are you still waiting, too?

anticipation is over. for my balcony guarantee I got a cabin with bed, bathroom, balcony and lots of exercise when I walk from one end of the ship to the other. it will be like walking the dog every day but without the dog.

I'll be more than happy to take your lackluster explanation of a cabin over having to come to work for a week.

yes. cabin assignment is fine Cat BB. lived in NY for 40 years and chicago for 4 years . moved here to avoid the snow and winter cold and ice. so I found heat, and hurricanes, but as I said, not complaining.

Go ahead...Complaining about weather is pretty much a national sport. Some day I too will be down south sweating it out (or refusing to leave the air conditioned interior); overall it sounds better to me than the bad winters. It seems many people agree.

Have a great time on the cruise. And have an extra treat or two since you will be walking it off to and from your cabin.

the cruise itself is a treat from me to me for my birthday which is tomorrow. I will take your advise and skip through the hall carrying enough dark chocolate pieces to get to my destination.... the next food stop.

Happy Birthday, Skippy! Enjoy the chocolates.

Hi guys, where do you look to see if ship NCL Star on Dec 14 2014 is full or not, first time using qty options and not sure if we like this not knowing. :-(

There is no way of knowing If the ship is full or not. Chances are that because of timing (just before xmas) it is not completely full.

You can however make guesses based on the cabin categories and cabins available (NCL only shows max 15 available cabins in each category) for example by starting a mock booking on NCL's website.
