TNT5197 Posted August 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2014 We're looking forward to our 3rd Transatlantic in October. This year aboard the Regal making her maiden crossing. I'd like to ask our fellow CC cruisers who have already sailed the Regal to provide insight and answer any questions we may have. I'll start with 2 questions. First, how is the internet connection? Also where do they allow smoking? Thanks :)
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted August 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2014 The Internet was dreadfully slow in our stateroom and non-existent on our balcony. It was faster in the hallway outside our stateroom, but or miss by the pool, and as someone reported from the Royal, glorious in Horizon Court. Smoking is allowed on Promenade Deck Starboard Aft in a small section. The other smoking section is on Deck 17 Aft; it has cushy sofas and chairs. RotaryMike Posted August 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2014 i'd like to add a question , for those who have already sailed Regal. Are the mattresses firm or soft ? we've gotten eggcrates on some other ships.

DLSHS_Mom Posted August 2, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 2, 2014 mattress - firm Internet - dreadful....I was getting up at 3AM to do my work email. We finally figured out best connection was in the Piazza. So in the morning we had breakfast in the IC and my husband checked his work email. Between my husband and myself we used over 700 mins for 12 nights and did not surf....just checking work email and responding. I should clarify that we each get over 100 emails/day and both used VPN connections so we are probably not the usual casual email users.
TNT5197 Posted August 2, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) DLSHS, thanks This isn't very encouraging. Our cabin is aft, probably furthest point away from wi-fi too! Edited August 2, 2014 by TNT5197 clarification
Julia’s Journey’s Posted August 2, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2014 Try propping your cabin door open and see if that improves the connection. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - Oy, excuse the auto correct ;)
downsmead Posted August 2, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2014 Indoors, smoking also allowed in the casino apart from one (? two) no smoking nights, and Churchill Lounge next to the 'night club'. Mattress's appeared to have egg crates on them already judging by the pattern from the sheets but beds were very comfortable. I cannot comment re the internet as we did not use it. Probably pillow tops not egg crates on a brand new ship.
RRFPresident Posted August 2, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 2, 2014 This was our first cruise with one of us having reached Platinum status so we had the free internet minutes perk. It took some finessing to get the computers in the internet café to get out of the Princess intranet and Dad had to have his account login info reset when signup didn't work the first time. Solely using the computers in the Internet café, both of us using our separate e-mail clients and me using Facebook, the only slow thing was waiting for the log in to process. I was able to load emails, scroll, and move back and forth btwn Facebook pages so easily and quickly I was surprised. We never did use up all of the allotted time as we didn't have work responsibilities etc to keep in touch with. The most time used though was when we stayed on board in Toulon so I don't know whether being in port versus at sea made a difference.
downsmead Posted August 2, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Probably pillow tops not egg crates on a brand new ship. Thanks, not so familar with these in the UK :), just thought that the pattern did not look like that from the mattress. We were also lucky being from the UK that our girls had a European package for just £2 a day extra which allowed them their normal (unlimited) texts, minutes and web allowance as at home, once they connected to a land provider. On such a port intensive cruise as the Med one we did on the Royal, this worked out far more favourable (when ever a land signal was picked up) than internet on board ship.
