Bar Harbor, weather no so good, US passport inspection went very fast best ever all were getting called a head of time.

Tendering ashore got hit by a wave, had to buy dry clothes ashore as we got more than a bit damp, these things happen .

Beautiful day in Boston today. DH and I walked from the ship to downtown and then walked the Freedom Trail. After approximately 14 miles of walking, I think we earned our dinner. Newport tomorrow. Weather supposed to be warming up so we will be happy to thaw out.

We had to cancel this cruise due to my DH health issues...so we've been following along and enjoying your posts. What are the autumn foliage colors like? We've been to Peggy's Cove so your posts brought back memories of our visit there. Keep the posts coming! :) Too bad you can't post some pictures too!

Hi All

What a difference a few weeks make, we ate at the Crown Grill last night and had one of the best meals we have had their.

On entering the Grill we were welcomed by name, and escorted to our seats. At no point was the front desk not manned, this was an issue for us a few weeks ago were we almost walked away after standing there for ages.

Overall service was excellent, food was hot and as ordered,, again things like water, wine were never allowed to run out,

Our waiter was always on hand unlike last time, coffee was as ordered hot and tasted nice.

Boston yesterday brought back so many memories weather was nice, at sail away ship called and called for one passenger even used different languages not sure if they found her.

Ship has the normal number of folks with minor injuries strained wrists, angles little falls, going on tour can be risky.

Its five years since we did this cruise, and we will do this cruise again.

With so many returning cruisers on this cruise 4 cc parties being held.

Folks were chatting at IC about how nice everyone is on board, if this was a hotel lobby folks would be sitting in silence instead all were chatting away, making new friends, plans to share taxis etc.

New Port today so tenders required, ship happy as sun is promised and temps set to rise.

Shogun, thanks for the good report. Parents are heading to the Ruby for 2 weeks on the 15th Nov and we are joining them on the 22nd Nov for a week. Have sailed the Ruby 3 previous times and still love the ship. (Really wanted to do the Regal) but folks had been on the Royal for 2 weeks earlier this year and wasn't crazy about it as they compared it to the Grand Class Ships....:D

Just getting ready to leave New Port,

As normal couple of fast coast guard boats buzzing about, however machine guns are maned, small high speed boat came towards in seconds both coast guard boats blocked its path and one followed it away from us, nice to feel safe but not normal to see guns on deck maned so has anything happened we do not know about today or is it just this crazy world we live in that we need this level of protection.

Near perfect weather in Newport today.

Chefs Table was tonight. In a food coma right now so Shogun can fill in some of the details if he would like. (He said not to eat all day and I'm glad I listened.) This was by far the most amazing experience I've had on any Princess cruise. It's a night I will remember for a very long time.

Would have been fun to have a M & G on land here in Newport yesterday! Hey, maybe try that out sometime! Loved seeing the Ruby yesterday.. now there are no more ships coming until next year - what am I going to do??? I love going downtown to watch all the ships.. going to be a loooooooonnnnnnnnng winter, except for my cruise coming up in a little over 3 weeks!!!

Chefs table, been a few years since we have done a chefs table, the one on the Royal might have an amazing setting but failed to deliver an amazing evening, the Ruby delivered one of the best eever, so what makes a great chefs table it needs to be much more than a big meal, we had a long time in the galley we saw crew at work, we chatted to chef and maitre d about life onboard etc, they explained the workings, lots of facts and figures, then six appetizers from around the world, again info about what we were eating, then to the main meal it needs to be theatre a show with sounds and flames as chef did his thing, other dinners need to be impressed they need to be asking what's going on, presentation was excellent, the food amazing an evening all will remember for a long time,

 

New York, we did land and sea tour around 700 passengers on tours today, our tour was OK would not do it again, needs to include time on your own,

 

Most folk not happy with tours no New York on your own, almost no tours include time for down town shopping, no shops near peir,

 

Formal night to night again not on a sea day, captains circle party one of four being held for this cruise, chance to meet a new captain for us, can not be bad as he was born in Scotland.

 

Overall this is a very chilled out cruise, passengers talking about how friendly everyone is, stand out feature so far has been service,

 

Ruby will be on her travels so may be years before we cruise on her again, she will be missed,

 

Captain Nick Nash takes over duty as fleet Captain so will be onboard for a few days soon.

Saw a few folks with face masks in New York, then last night had a bit of heab ache then got up during the night with a soar throat, this morning woke up sounding like Donald Duck.

Interesting because on most of our cruises we have seen coast guard boats with the guns manned. I just assumed that was normal and part of them protecting us as we entered and left the port.

What a shame. High winds here also. We're on the Ruby Monday and chances appear slim to none that we'll make Princess Cays Tuesday. Winds there are predicted to be 25-30 MPH!

We live a couple of hours north of Charleston on the coast, and after several weeks of perfect weather a nasty storm blew in this morning...always sad to lose a port, but Captain knows best!

 

Sounds like the folks getting off were passengers, not crew. Always a risk planning around getting off a ship a stop early!

It was too windy and choppy for the ship to dock in Charleston so the Captain took us out for an extra sea day instead. I was surprised to see how many people were at dinner tonight considering how bad the ship is moving right now. We are on the back of the ship and there isn't much of a wake. But I did see a rainbow and even a double rainbow.

Sorry for not posting for a while but have not been well, according to shop teller the ship is sick, one third with sea sickness the other third with the flu, she was selling out of cold and flu supplies. Now l do not get sick very often but if l do its never something to stop me doing what l planned to do, but yesterday, woke up coughing nasty rasping cough bringing up blood etc, tried to go wash room but was shacking so much with the chillls gave up, then in early evening woke Mrs Shogun was feeling a bit green but woke her to say bed is wet, first thought was we had a leak, put lights on sure enough pillows were wet and most of bed was to but leak was from me sweat was pouring out of me, made it to shower and steamed myself as throat was so sore, from steward had been in hall way all day so got new supplies, ordered a sandwich from room service and that did as meal, later on dealt a little better so went to open deck only door open was onto pool deck, now at 4.00am had passed deck hands clearing water, it was now 8.00pm and there were still there. The problem Ruby was in a big storm yesterday.

Crew said biggest waves they had ever seen in this part of the world others said biggest waves they had ever seen, Captain issued safety warnings a couple of times, in morning wind was gale force 10 not sure what it was at its peak, but was 50 guesting 55 miles per hour, Spotted little birds inside the ship as well as the decks, assume due to storm they had found safety on the ship.

As to those deck hands, they had water from the pools and the rain, but also the little streams flowing from the upper decks.

As to my fellow passengers the folks next door have been coughing away, while down the hall Mrs shogun was saying piles of used tissues outside doors, this is not good for stopping the spread of bugs.

The guide dog goes about its duties so calmly, would be nice if fellow passengers followed, while at IC waves were higher than windows Captain said 5m plus so why stand there and scream, likewise in elevator it bangs creaks no need to scream, now it might just be me with my headache but could have down with out that.

Shogun, sorry to hear your not feeling well. We are in Atlanta and the snow got as far south as the North Georgia Mountains. We have had gusts yesterday (Sat) over 40mph with sustained winds of 20-30mph. Today is much better but still very cold. The only consolation for you is that it is suppose to be better by Monday (i.e. warmer in South FLA). Hopefully, some of the Florida sunshine will knock the bug out of you.

Sounds like our trip across the Tasman Sea in 2007 on Sapphire Princess. Then waves were smashing into the windows of the bar outside the MDR and people were standing by the windows looking out - bit dangerous. It was a very hairy crossing indeed and we were half a day late getting into Hobart but by all accounts her return crossing was like a millpond! Hope you soon feel lots better Shogun - went down with a URTI on our recent cruise and it took over 3 weeks to get rid of it.

At one point the Capt said winds were at 70kts.. There were at least 4ft waves coming from the pool.. Looked kinda neat actually.. Felt sorry for the crew that were trying to secure the net across the pool though. Some brave souls they are..
