How does the seapass work?

I have a debit card but i saw somewhere it can take awhile for funds to 'clear'

Is there an option to bring cash and have them load it onto the seapass?

Yes, you can select the cash option for your SeaPass account. They will let you charge up to $500 before they ask you to pay it down. You can pay it down with credit card, debit card, or cash.

I've selected to use CASH in lieu of our debit card on our seapass, but can you just pay cash onboard at one of the stores, etc. or is it strictly charged to your seapass?

No cash is taken onboard, except in the Casino and for tips.

Make it easy on yourself.

Use a Credit card......

CC is the easy and safe method to pay for everything. I know many will not do this, but WHY. I guess it is the same reason I stand in line in the grocery store waiting for the person in front of me to write a check for $10 and having to find and show ID.

I hate checkwriters.

Especially the ones who don't even pull the checkbook out of their pocket until the cashier tells them the total.

In australia we dont use cheques to pay for items its cash or card.

Cheques can b used for bigger items or to pay bills but its rare now days as we can pay at post offices or via the internet.

I have money aside which is why on the cruise i would rather use the cash option to load onto my seapass so im budgeted too n dont go overboard on spending

On Legend of the Seas in September, I was told that they would not accept my mastercard debit card (ozforex) would not be accepted. In fact no debit cards are accepted. This was a real pain as I had preloaded it with US dollars. I chose to pay with cash as I have had problems with RCC charging in the card's home currency which means double fees.

What reason did they give for not accepting the debit card? I've not heard of them refusing a debit card.

I think that card is a pre loaded travel card and not a card that is actually tied to an account anywhere. Can understand them not taking those to set up an account on board but don't know why they would not accept them to pay down a cash account.

Don't understand the logic in your argument. Controlling your spending is simply a matter of self-control and monitoring the balance of your on-board spending. Then just pay off the credit card when the bill arrives a month or so later.

To me, it would be very embarrassing to be buying something on-board with lots of other people around you and being told that you can not buy it because you over-spent your cash account.

Not everybody has self-control but using cash will make you more aware of how much you are spending so you can pay it off as you go along.

I will also be using cash on my upcoming cruise. There will be no embarrassing moments for me because of overspending.

They did not give me a reason, just said RCI systems did not accept debit cards. It is a preloaded travel card but is chipped etc. If this is wrong, I am pxxsed off as I had to withdraw the USD from the card at an ATM in Portland which incurred both ATM fees and card fees. The benefit of the card lies in using it for transactions but not for withdrawals.

You have to do the same thing for BOTH options. Both use the Sea-Pass to buy stuff.

You want to budget your spending. With a credit card, you monitor the spending so you do not go over your budget. With cash, you monitor the spending so you do not run out of money in your account.

Sounds like the same monitoring effort except that the credit card is a lot less hassle.

When we did our long Aust/NZ trip this past March including 3 cruises, I set up a Cruise Acct and kept track of all our expenses, Hotel, flights, tours so now will keep it funded and each cruise, will charge to our Credit card and pay the Card off in full at the end of the trip when the bill comes due.
