Price Drop -Carnival wont help

Actually the answer should be yes, depending on the airline. Some airlines will give you a credit for the fare difference if prices drop. Not a refund, but a credit that you can apply towards a future flight within the year.

So, there are different rates, and the rules vary from one airline to the other, just like with the cruise lines.

Unfortunately the vast majority of airlines will no longer do this and, if they do, you will have to go through a song and dance to get it. If you do receive the credit there are restrictions attached to many of them. At the end of the day they make it as unappealing as possible to go through the process (long wait times on the phone, switched between numerous departments, etc.).

The other important thing to understand is that the airlines are giving you a voucher FOR A FUTURE TRIP. People are not looking for a voucher for a future trip, they want it applied to their current trip either through a refund, OBC or a cabin upgrade. Big difference.

If booked in the proper price code Carnival doesn't make it difficult to receive price protection. Early Saver is the best code to be booked into, but of course that means that you have to make your vacation plans very early. There are also penalties if you change your plans.

I was in the same boat (no pun intended). Booked a casino rate and then got another casino offer for basically a free cruise...it was after final payment and I talked to several people but was unable to get the new rate. I was slightly disappointed but still got a good rate so all is fine.

I figure that prices will drop if you are willing to wait it out but I have limited dates I can cruise so I would rather not take the chance of a ship selling out.

I disagree. I've never had an issue when dealing with price drops. I think the problem is the amount of people that do not understand the rules that accompany the fare they booked.

Absolutely agree with you! Many times have seen price drops but they did not apply to our cruise or category booked. However, whenever we have applied for an applicable drop, we have always gotten it. On our 2 cruises in January and February, filled out the ES form ( even though both are before final payment ) and got one back in less than an hour on the weekend and the other back on Monday in less than 10 minutes.

Not all new promos/price drops apply to your cruise or booking.

Another thing that people miss is that the Past Guest rate offers no price protection. That loophole is that you can cancel before final payment and rebook. So they just push that one thru without the rebooking.

Everybody around here brags about price drops so everybody wants one. The worst part is these crazy sales or guarantee rooms for way less than want you paid.

Not necessarily that early. I think ES is available up to 4 or 5 months prior to the cruise. And I would think most people plan vacations a good 6 months out.

I had a problem a little over a month ago as well. We booked an interior category 4D, early saver. Found an ocean view category 6A on fair viewer for $550 less!! I called my PVP, she said she could only get me an OBC for $162. I still don't understand why I wouldn't either get the full difference or at least an upgrade. Am I wrong for this??

Although I agree with you, they did not state the Halloween sale. And we do not know which cruise they are talking about, so we do not know if they are past final payment or not. All info is not available. If it's the November cruise, then yes, not eligible.

Go Jeff Gordon

Since the OP hasn't come back since posting, I read his previous posts. That revealed the cruise is for the 20th. So obviously it's not ES. Cruise had to have been paid in full at booking, so no reductions in price because of that. I think the only chance he would have had is if he booked within the 48 hours time frame of that lower rate.

I guess you didn't see the sarcasm dripping :)

The only rate drops (that I am aware) that can occur after the 48 hours (except for ES) is if you are still outside the final payment and have a fully refundable rate.

I hear ya.

The thing is everybody thinks it's 5 years ago when you probably could get your price drop. Kinda creates a mob mentality. Carnival creates this problem and needs to fill cabins. Even Early Saver isn't much of a deal because after final payment they make guarantees much cheaper. So there's that thing.

And everyone thinks that every rate category is eligible for price drops :)

I check Carnival usually twice a day. Sometimes the sales are for GTY and sometimes allowing you to select a cabin. The current one is a good one for selecting a cabin; though the GTY is still cheaper.

It boils down to at what price are you willing to sacrifice selecting a cabin vs Carnival doing it. I passed up a $350 (out of 1400) price change for a GTY last summer to stay on deck 7. I could have easily as dropped to deck 1. I felt being on deck 7 was better for me/wife. So I kept the cabin I had.

My head is spinning trying to figure out how an OV could be $550 less than an interior:confused:

Last year and my cruise earlier this year I booked past guest and got price drops. At least 3 on my Sensation cruise last year and a huge drop on my Freedom cruise this year. Over $550. I even started a thread about it.

Blue ribbon for this one! Travelers need to be savvy and aware of what they are agreeing to. We sail in a month and I just got some OBC because I booked Early Saver. You take a chance in having a penalty if you cancel, but for us, it has been worth it.

Totally agree, same for us.Have always booked Early Saver.

are you sure its not easy saver?

Here's how the Early Saver program works:

1. When you book a 3-5 day cruise three months in advance, or 6 day or longer cruise five months in advance, you are assured the

lowest rate with a cabin assignment.

How much lower was the 4D from the time you booked if the 6A was $550 less?

You should have been able to upgrade and get the difference unless times have changed.

Katielynn was this the cruise you booked thru a TA? One of your previous posts you talked about a TA that was a friend. I know you said you called you personal vacation planner but did you mean your travel agent?
