New Orleans Hotel suggestions

Just stayed at the Hilton Riverside pre-cruise on 11/29/14. It's an amazing hotel...right across the street from the casino. Extremely efficient staff and an amazing eats at Drago's in the hotel. Don't miss the charbroiled oysters...they're to die for! The hotel lobby has a real New Orleans feel to it...very festive and drop dead gorgeous! We had a room on the 7th floor and a view of the river. We watched 2 cruise ships leave port and that was really cool to watch.

Plus the Hilton is attached to the Riverwalk Mall, so you have very easy access to all of the stores and the Cafe DuMonde that is in the mall.

We stayed at Harrah's for one night post-cruise and we had a longer walk to the casino than the Hilton Riverside. But we did enjoy Fulton Street right outside Harrah's doors. It was beautiful with all of the Christmas decorations and artificial snow blowers. There is a Ruth Chris' on the first floor of Harrahs and they have outside tables on Fulton Street. Really pretty with the gas lamps and the decor'.

The rooms are very nice in both hotels, but I actually liked the Hilton just a bit better than Harrah's and we do like to play at the casino.

You can park at Harrah's casino parking and get your parking validated if you play 30 minutes or more. But we just used the valet parking since it was so convenient. It was $38 and some change.

Looking for a safe, inexpensive place to stay with reasonable access to French Quarter for 2-3 nghts post cruise, the week before Mardi Gras, beginning 2/7. Prices seem to be all jacked up, even Priceline and Hotwire. Is Gretna a good option? What is taxi fare from Gretna to French Quarter?

Double Tree, all three Marriotts, Hilton, Drury all are very close. We book about a year in advance in get into most of these for about $100. The casino is always crazy expensive. We will be there next week and have the Double Tree for about $110.

Where are you able to find these prices? We are a family of 5 so we need two rooms and would love it if breakfast was included as well. We don't sail until November of 2015 but I know New Orleans books up early so trying to decide now. Have you ever tried Priceline for the express bookings in the French Quarter on Canal street? The price looks reasonable but I am afraid of the little boutique hotels that may pop up in noisy areas. The 110 would be a great price if we can find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry for getting in on your thread. I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good hotel with a balcony. My fiancée is looking for one of those small hotels what have the French Balcony. Anyone have a list of which GOOD small hotels have this? Thanks in advance. :D

If you have a Total Rewards Card from Harrah's, check into booking hotels on line at the Harrah's web site. There are about 5 different hotels that you can book and you don't have to have high status to get very good prices or even have your room comped. Check the web site every month, the closer you get to your sailing date, usually the cheaper the price. I booked the Hilton Riverside at $128 for Apr, 2015 and a few months later it was down to $88 and by the time of my cruise, it was comped. I kept calling them back and no problem, they would change the price.

The Hilton Riverside is very handy for cruisers - it is attached to the Mall - you can actually walked through the Mall and at the end there is an elevator thats labeled "cruise passengers", take the elevator down and a porter will meet you, take your luggage and you walk across the street to the entrance to cruise terminal. We checked out our route ahead of time - it actually took us 5 different elevators to get from our room to the port. The Mall is on 3 different levels, but there are elevators on every level - you have to look for them.

With 5 people, you might want to consider staying at an Embassy Suites. It might appear more expensive at the initial booking, but you get a 2 room suite with double beds in one room and a pull out sofa bed in the other. A made to order breakfast is also included every morning as well as a managers reception, with snacks and adult beverages and kids beverages, every evening.

My husband and I have booked Embassy's many times with our kids. Very convenient - we could put the kids to bed in one room and stay up and talk or watch tv in the other room. It has definitely been cheaper than booking 2 hotel rooms and paying for breakfast every morning. There were times when we were in Washington, DC when we would get back from touring in time for the managers reception and the kids filled up on snacks and we all had our drinks and just didn't feel like going anywhere else (of course after walking for several miles during the day in the DC heat, we were all just exhausted!).

We have stayed at both the Drury and also The Blake and loved both of them. They are right down the street with easy access walking to just about everywhere along the Riverwalk. I have reviews from both if you are interested with pictures.

Priceline is the way to go for hotels. However. For your family check out the local B&B listings on vacation rental by owner. My personal fav. is a place called maison de lagniappe. It's in the Marigny and they have rooms of different sizes. I know one we stayed in was a queen with a sofa bed and I know they have one that sleeps up to 10 I think. Last I looked even the largest room was less than $200 per night. Continental breakfast and the owners are super nice.

Thanks so much everyone for your feedback. We were able to book the Hilton Riverside on Hotwire for $100 a night. At that price we booked two rooms so I was happy to spend $200 a night and have a little privacy from our 3 boys that will be with us for the entire cruise :-). We love them but also enjoy our alone time. Now that they are all adults it makes it much easier. I can't believe the cruise is finally almost here. We are about 133 days away and we booked this over a year and a half ago. Everyone is super excited and now that the hotel is confirmed and the flights are booked, we are ready to go!

The Drury was our other choice but when we realized we could book two separate rooms for the price of one through Hotwire, we went with that for privacy. Its a family vacation and we are all about togetherness but a little separation is a good thing :-).
