Hi there-

Does anyone know if they can manually enter your credit card info at check in..

My card isn't swiping and I don't think I'll get a replacement in time before I cruise..

I can always just use cash - I just want to be prepared!

They should be able to key in the card number, I can't think of a reason why they couldn't.

If your credit card loses it magnetic stripe reading ability call the 800 number

somewhere on the card and get a new one.

American Express will FEDEX one overnight to your location to help you out

presume that VISA/MasterCard and Discover will do the same.

Use your card a lot and this will happen - beware of merchants that have those

theft prevention magnetic devices. Put your wallet and or card in the vicinity

of the check-out disabling device and your card is vulnerable to be demagnetized.

Result is the card has to manually read (punched in) with the card number

expo date and other codes on a telephone line - time consuming yes but it

does work in a fall back situation.

I'm sure they could. That happened to me last week at the store......I just use a piece of paper of plastic bag on it, then they swiped it no problem :)

Google it....might work for you if for some resin the can't put it in manually.

Just an FYI. Most travelers have a back up card just in case

Savvy travel practice.

Do consider applying for a second and even third credit card for your own safety and benefit

We travel with 4 different credit cards - at least. Two with her, two with me.

They are darn cheap insurance. FREE.

As do we!!

Spouse and I sit down about 2 weeks before our trips to see who will be holding what card in their wallet.....and to figure out which 2 additional cards will be safely stored in our " bug out ziplock bag" in the safe

Oh and maybe even a 5 th card for the onboard charges

Just an FYI.... I used to just put our stuff in the safe in a few small pouches but since the Concordia tragedy we have decided to get gallon sized freezer ziploc andstore everything in them and then into the safe.

Heaven forbid we had to grab and go

Or

Should we miss the ship the purser or whoever would have all the important stuff together to leave with the dock agent

A few times when our card wouldn't swipe we wrapped plastic around it and then we were able to swipe it. We learned that trick from a grocery clerk.

My last experience with NCL in Tampa was no, they could not enter it manually. Made me mad as the man that came to help said that they have this problem on a regular basis with American Express. I had to give them another card then go to the Purser's desk the next morning to get it back on the card I wanted. It swiped fine for them. If AMEX was not a popular card I would have been more forgiving but that was just annoying to me at that point.

So, you took some plastic, wrapped it around the card, removed the plastic and then the card swiped just fine? Did you have to rub the plastic on the card at all?

Wrap and swipe works with thin paper as well..like a receipt. You leave it on and swipe it.
