Shorts in diningroom (men)

It's been posted that shorts were seen on Elegant nights. My family was denied access to MDR on the Glory in November due to being in nice shorts. I later saw cruisers we knew in the casino, wearing shorts. They were allowed in the same MDR by the same hostess. I went back to the MDR and saw a lot of other cruisers in shorts, some not as nice as ours. Guess it's hit and miss.

The daily Carnival paper will specify no shorts on Elegant night .

However on our recenty Liberty cruise , shorts were rampant and

there was no enforcement.

Looks like CCL and other CL's are following Disney's lead soon , anything goes.

Looking at those hairy legs at dinner is upsetting , even on the men .

Nice shorts are allowed. I really don't care what anyone wears, I take care of my own self and let everyone else do the same.

I don't really look at anyone elses legs either so hairy or not, they don't bother me. ;)

That's my take, too. It's a philosophy that's done me well in life, so I expect it'll carry over just as well in vacation. :)

Why even call it "Elegant night" then, they should just do away with it....

... in the hopes of some people at least wearing a collared shirt and long pants to look "semi-nice" to increase revenue through photography sales. Statistics show that when people "look nice" or "feel good," they tend to take more pictures.

Elegant Night is still here because it is profitable for the cruise line.

It is really funny to read this thread!

My husband is the most down to earth informal guy you have ever met! He'll wear jeans and a t shirt everywhere BUT for Carnival cruises on elegant night (and most other nights) he'll be in long pants/jeans but not ever shorts.

I think his legs get cold with all the aircon on board the ship! Everyone cruises differently!

I don't let what people wear to dinner affect me. It is up to Carnival to tell them to change or not. If Carnival does not say anything, not much anyone can do.

I don't let them either. I honestly don't care what people are wearing. True people should follow rules I guess, but if carnival doesn't care, I don't either. My fiancé isn't interested so much in elegant night because he likes wearing jeans, so we will probably skip it all together. He says we are going and he will wear the dress pants, but I don't really care if we go or not. . He would probably try going in with jeans lol, but I am a scaredy cat lol. I wouldn't want them to turn us away lol. I am one though that wears dresses to dinner every night, no matter the occasion.

That is the only reason to have elegant night these days. Photograthers line the promenade blocking traffic taking their pictures.

Exactly! You can't even walk around the ship on elegant nights. I don't understand why they allow some of the backdrops to block doorways and areas that are marked as routes to muster stations/emergency exits.

That's strange. I was on the Liberty 2 yrs ago and they almost didn't let me in the MDR because they "thought" I had on shorts when they noticed it was a Kilt instead..

Perhaps emails to Rear Admiral Mark Buzby, Rear Admiral Joseph Campbell, Ray Valeika and John Lauber are in order if they're creating a safety hazard by blocking emergency exits and muster routes. They are part of Carnival's new Safety & Reliability Review Board, after all.
