I think what you have in mind is a good plan. Once you have no further need to withdraw cash, then changing the account back to a credit card makes for more convenince.

What Clarea said is key - make sure you've finished your OBC first and keep in mind Casino allows max $500 withdrawals also, so you need to plan your week.

You don't need to have finished up your OBC. Any remaining OBC will be refunded in US $ to the credit card that you put on file. ( as long as you have used up all non refundable OBC)

Ok that's good, but pragmatically I am guessing USD Cash would be preferred instead of trusting the conversion back to their CAD Credit Cards. :)

Has anyone ever had the OBC put back on their U.S. Credit card? On our last cruise they overcharged me for our future cruise. They said that they would issue a credit immediately. It took a month for the credit to be placed on my credit card. I had to pay off the credit card before the credit was issued to avoid interest charges.

The Sears credit card no longer exists (I had one), but I believe the Sears MasterCard is still around. The points system now will work with any credit card.

Well I just used my Sears Mastercard yesterday to make a purchase in the store so it must still be good. This is the same card I used all across Europe earlier this year.

If you want Sears club points, then you must apply for the Sears Rewards card (not a credit card but only to calculate points).

My Sears Mastercard has been replaced with a Scotiabank Momentum Mastercard with the same number that I had on my Sears Mastercard.

I received this card in the mail too but as I stated earlier, my Sears Mastercard from Chase bank still worked for a purchase a made yesterday in the store. I will just keep using it until such time as something happens and there's a problem or it's no longer accepted. I just put the Scotiabank one away in a safe place for now since I really don't want or need another credit card.

The new Scotiabank card has the same number as the Sears Mastercard from Chase so I guess it would work. I'm not sure that the Scotiabank card is another credit card. It is just replacing the Chase bank card. I guess you'll find out when you receive your bill. Interesting!

I'm curious about this also.

How long does it normally take for RCI to refund OBC? Does it matter how much refundable OBC is on the account?

I have about $3000 in OBC that I've purchased to cover a new watch, drink package, some excursions, and cash for the ports. I've assumed the watch will cost me between $500-$1000. But, if the watch I end up with is cheaper than expected, I change my mind about excursions or they're booked solid, I could have $1000+ in OBC by the end of the cruise. I do have the TD US visa, and would much prefer the money applied to that card, than to have to $1000 in $US on me for my flight home. But I would rather have the cash than to wait a month plus for the money to be applied to my card.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

from what i'm hearing the obc will go back onto the credit card from which it originally came from and at the same rate. i doubt they would credit your u.s. card but who knows.

I was under the impression that any remaining obc is credited to whatever credit card you have on your account. If you don't want cash then you go to guest services before the last day and apply your credit card to your acct. I too have a TD US Visa and actually spoke to them yesterday in regards to how I would go about taking the cash from the card, which can be done by transfer to my TD US bank acct, but I sure don't want to wait a month for it!

I would also check to see if they charge a fee for that transfer. Nothing surprises me with the banks.

This is what I have read here as well.

The ship only has access to the credit card that you provide at check in or on board so any remaining OBC. Will go back to that in US$ as long as you select the option that you want your credit card to do the exchange.

I think that the long time that was mentioned for a refund was because it was for a future cruise that was purchased on board which would be a separate accounting function than that of guest services. Others have posted of receiving quick refunds of their on board accounts from guest services.

Surprisingly, no fees :) This was their response:

"You can transfer the credit balance on your TD Credit Card as a Cash Advance into your TD Canada Trust account using the "Make a Transfer" option in EasyWeb, or withdraw it directly from a branch at any time.

If you have a credit balance on your TD Credit Card and transfer that balance into your chequing/savings account, effectively bringing your TD Credit Card balance to zero, no interest or cash advance fee will be charged, as there is no money owing to TD Canada Trust on your account".

No it definitely doesn't work that way. It will be repaid to the method you used to set up your on board account but is completely separate from the method you used to buy the on board credit.

This is what I would have to assume. Have you had any personal experience with this? If so, how long did it take to process the refund?

As a hypothetical, if my friends bought me $1000 in OBC for the ship as a gift, and I didn't use all of it, I should be able to get the remainder back, it shouldn't go back to the source of the purchase.

I have experience with this, and any excess refundable OBC will go back to the credit card connected with your onboard account.

Thanks Bob. Roughly how long did it take for the refund to be processed?

As has been stated here

If you purchase your on board credit through Gifts and Gear you will receive $ 100.00 US for every $110.00 Canadian, This will be deposited into your on board account as cash and you can withdraw US Cash from Guest Services or from the Casino, Because you have purchased cash you can redeem as cash. I have already purchased US cash and have received paperwork to show it as US funds in my on board account. You must call Gifts and Gear to do this, it is quite simple and a no brainier for Canadian cruisers at a 10 % exchange rate with no service charges,
