We just got off the 12.day repositioning cruise on the Freedom. We had a great time, the staff was wonderful, the food was fine. There is a lot of options for meals so there should be something for everyone. Mongolian Wok and The burrito place were amazing! We don 't use the casino so feedback on that. Our cabin was kept clean and the steward was very good. We asked for the minibar to be emptied and it was done right away. This was our 24th Carnival cruise and we aren't done yet!

We also just got off the 12-day repo cruise and agree . . . we absolutely LOVED the Freedom! Great weather, great ports, great food in MDR and LOVED Guys Burgers :) We enjoyed the Playlist Production shows - only disappointment was they didn't have them the last 2 nights  We're already booked on the 13-day on the Sunshine next February and can't wait!!

This is our second cruise on Freedom, the first was back in 2009 for our Honeymoon. This is our Anniversary cruise. I have to say this has been very disappointing. The service on board has really gone down since our last trip. I apologize ahead of time. I didn't bring my camera, so I won't be posting any pics.

Cabin

We got an OV room 2435. The room is nice, location great. But the shower stopped up during the first shower. The air in the room doesn't seem to circulate. I went to guest services and they sent maintenance who checked and it registered 73.5 which iws "within Carnival standards", so they would not do anything to fix it. Kimberly at the desk did graciously give me a fan for my DH who keeps sweating. She told me they are reserved for guets with medical conditions who need them to sleep.

Our steward likes to play hide the trash can, so we have been having fun with that one. We are Premium Casino guests and he keeps forgetting to leave our casino drawing tickets and such. We missed the cocktail party and drawing the first night and a few other things. I have to check each day to make sure we got everything.

Casino

The slots are HORRIBLE!!!! I lost a LOT of money. Can't hit anything! This has been one of the worst gambling trips we have ever been on.

You cannot get service while playing. We get free drinks and it doesn't matter if you tip or not. We always tip, and they still don't come around. Waited 30 minutes one time for a soda. Twice we ordered and the same girl came by and asked if we wanted something 15 mins later without bringing a drink.

Food

We haven't made it to MDR. The buffet is terrible, terrible, terrible! We just ordered room service or pizza. I may loose a few pounds if we dont make it to MDR soon.

I am really disappointed in the Freedom. We were really looking forward to this cruise. It was one of our favorite cruises from the past, and now we probably won't be back.

Well.. i better get back to some sun. :)

Just got off the 12 dy repo and the Lido food was awesome and I am very picky. Our room was so cold(I'm always hot}we had to keep turning it down. Sorry your trip is not what you wanted.

Just did the reposition cruise aboard the freedom. I was not at all happy with the food also. I was the guy with the two plates of watermelon and pineapple. I think I ate the burgers and fries everyday because I just could not count on dinner being anything I wanted...... I figured it was just me because I am very picky.

My wife just returned from a "Freedom" cruise, and had a GREAT time aboard, with the exception of the casino. I think Carnival must have decided to tighten up the odds on all their ships of late. Your comment, and my wife's experience at the casino are identical, and I've noticed many, many others who complain about the slots as well. My advise was the same as those above. Just walk away! ;)

"SKY"

I have a question please. On the regular Blackjack game is the payoff 6:5 or 3:2? Somewhere I was reading that Carnival Casino paid $6.00 as a BJ win on a $5.00 bet. Thanks in advance for your answers!

3:2 payoff on blackjack is only on the $10 minimum and higher tables. Otherwise it's 6:5.

I am sorry you feel the cruise is not going well. As the daughter of a gambling addict, who grew up vacationing in Las Vegas all the time, I do have trouble sympathizing about the low payouts, those hotels in Vegas weren't built because people win, it's always in the houses favor. I do understand not minding the losing as long as you get to play awhile. I don't play at all anymore, but when I did it was for very little $. blackjack $5 or less bets, and liked it when it would last a couple of hours. So that I get, but I don't get complaining about it, as a gambler, you know it can go quick. Hope your week improves. Bad food would not make me happy either

One thing I have learned over my many cruises is while you are having a bad cruise, someone a few decks down from you say it is the best cruise ever. You can't judge a whole cruise on one room steward because another steward a few cabins down the hall may be the best and get awards for it.

Food is one of those things that you can't please everyone. I personally love the sauces. I've enjoyed the buffets for breakfast and lunch but always eat in the dining room for dinner. Rarely miss it.

I don't cruise for the entertainment. In fact, I rarely step foot in the theatre except to take pictures when its empty.:D

I've never been on Freedom and looking forward to my next cruise but I am platinum on Carnival and have learned don't sweat the small stuff. Having to search for a trash can is news to me. Cabins are small. It can't be too hard to find. LOL

Good luck and hope the rest of the cruise turns out to be what you hoped for. Go with the flow & try not to let the little things bug you. Nothing in this world is perfect.

I am sorry that this cruise has not been your best. However, you complaining about the slot machines is ridiculous. You might win or you might lose. Nothing to complain about. As for the food, I have never had "outstanding" food on any ship. The Buffet food is better then the MDR IMO.

I'm guessing those huge casinos aren't built from gamblers winning.

LOL....slots not "paying" and you can't find a garbage can in a tiny ships cabin? Wow.

There was a time when I actually worried about negative reviews. I finally realized some people just cannot be made happy and if they appear to pick at the small things you know where the problem lies.

Most of the tables are 3:2 but there is one non-smoking blackjack table that pays 6:5. It is located near the casino entrance (from the shops).

  • 3 months later...

Just off the Freedom last week. I love cruising, so any cruise is a good cruise. :D It rained several days, not all day, but it had no effect on us. In fact, we snorkeled in the rain. Cool! We had the best waiter I've had in 9 cruises. His name was Arsenio. And Randy, our Cabin Steward was always so upbeat! While it didn't ruin my cruise, I too felt that things were *off* on Freedom. I've been on 5 previous Carnival cruises and am just off 2 consecutive Royal Caribbean cruises. I think it's all about perspective. I was terribly disappointed in my last royal caribbean cruise. I was so excited to be back on a Carnival cruise. Maybe my expectations were too high. Whatever the reason, I also felt that Freedom wasn't as good as other ships I've been on. I'm going to be on the Conquest in August, and I'm really curious to see the difference. Then maybe I will be able to figure out why I wasn't impressed with Freedom.

Btw, ignore all the people who have to make negative responses to your original post. I totally understand where you are coming from. I find it interesting that they are calling you out for being negative and then they themselves are negative to you. Geez people!

OP, I understand what you're saying about the casino. No one goes into a slot game actually expecting to make money by the end of the cruise, but the fun is in the playing. Where's the fun in never winning a single spin? Casinos know that that in order to keep people coming back consistently, they need to occasionally give a little out, and make it at least SEEM like you're not just flushing your money down the toilet.

Why can't you? After all, it's YOUR cruise that you're reviewing. Just because someone a few doors down had a better experience or may have had different standards, doesn't mean that your cruise didn't suck.

We had a great cruise on the Freedom in May. However, our room steward was not great....he was barely doing his job in fact. We did like all the food in the MDR and the staff but found some of the other service on the ship to be lack luster. That is, except the Red Frog staff; they were well above average! Except for the Red Frog I preferred the Magic staff (and ship)

We were on Freedom in December and we were not impressed!!

We were on the Oasis 2 weeks ago and the food, service and entertainment was 100% better!

I'm sure it was 100 percent better. But i'll bet the price was also considerably higher.

It is fair to say your cruise did not meet your expectations but my point was not to judge the entire cruiseline on one bad experience. I know many people that said they went on 1 Carnival cruise and will never sail them again. That I don't understand because the next one may be totally awesome. Or the ship was bad so all Carnival ships must be bad right? Not! That was the point I was trying to make.

Well, nothing is ever going to be as special as your honeymoon cruise. ;) Plus you've lost a lot of money. So kinda colors the whole experience.

They always push the trash can under the bench under the vanity. No matter how many times I place it in a corner. Must be protocol.

Give up the slots, get dressed up and hit the MDR!!!!

Sorry, but I too have a hard time believing some of your complaints. Slots not paying? Quit feeding them.... Maybe your DH is coming down with something? We keep our house at 72-73 degrees during the dead of summer when it's in the 100's out...As far as the trash can, the stewards ALWAYS place it under the vanity stool. Check there for it.

We have been on the Freedom 3 times and have never had any issues at all. The room stewards have been the best out of all our cruises. We find the casino to be one of the better ones. As far as the food goes, I don't eat at the buffets, just not my thing. But if you are having room service and pizaa (which is delicious) then how can you be loosing weight? Not to mention fish & chips, deli, tandoori, Mongolian wok, Guys burgers, Blue Iguana, and of course, my favorite, the Steakhouse.

We also have been victim to one of those hot rooms. It is 73.5 up in the vent where they put the tester, not in the room.

That itself can put a damper on things when you can't sleep well. I woke up covered in sweat in the middle of the night the first 2 nights until they finally got me a fan.

With the fan on and no blanket I was able to sleep better.

OP I feel for you guys in regards to the room temp.

Bill
