Major Changes Coming to Orient Beach This Summer

Sounds like they are building concrete slabs. How quaint. NOT... :(

I hope that once people are there they will forget that part:)

The buildings were damaged very badly during a hurricane in 2014. Hopefully they will now be able to weather the storms. After a few Frozen cocktails I bet it won't be an issue to most. :)

Thought that I had posted earlier, but don't see it.

I've seen photos - wood framed with particle board walls on concrete slabs.

Several are framed out with roofs or at least rafters up. Separate concrete block toilet structure, I believe.

Thank you so much for the pictures. Was there a lot of seaweed or is that now gone?

We saw some, but the Kontiki raked it all into a pile so no problem on that part of the beach. I don't really recall it being any type of problem.

Here is the background of a picture that shows a part of the beach.

Thanks for the posts, snorkelman. :)

For those interested, you can see a live feed of beach video from Club Orient down towards Pedro's at the Club Orient Webcam.

Note, if you scroll down or click around on their website you will definitely hit Not Safe For Work images.

Sorry, just returned from an extended family 'reunion' vacation including cruise.

I don't know. I've heard both ways. Pre-fab would make sense, but I've seen no reports of such activity on the island. My friend Joyce reported on the ready to pour foundations, but didn't have any additional info.

From my postings up at the top of the thread it would suggest pre-fab. We should know soon.

Apparently there is a lot of prefab in the new structures.

Construction moving along quickly, but it sure doesn't sound like they will make October.

High season begins December 15. :)

I think that chair and food prices have historically been higher at the spots on the stretch of the beach that remains open.

It will be very interesting when places like Orange Fever reopen.

Current image from Orient. NOT my photo:

OH NO, I was there last March before all this started. Going on Freedom of the seas again this march and was looking forward to my Orient Beach day. doesn't look very appealing now. I guess Kon Tiki is still there though? It was really nice but $ before. Used to always go to Le String area. bummer
