How late will a bear eat?

We are thinking of arriving at Mendenhall Glacier after an afternoon whale watch. I understand that sometimes Bears will appear by the stream to thin out the salmon herd. And that we may observe them by means of the elevated deck/walkway.

 

Until how late in the day will bears hunt for salmon? Will they still be around at 6 or 7 PM?

They eat all day. That's what they do in the summer. There is no set schedule. They simply come when they are hungry. Who knows you might get lucky.

Remember, the last white and blue shuttles are at 6pman they maybe very crowed. You could take the phone number of a taxi in case you can't get on a shuttle. or the city bus is about 1 mile walk.

They do eat all day, but like sharks, they tend to feed later in the day. They are more nocturnal and nap much of the day.

 

Plus, six or seven isn't that late here in the summer. Midnight sun and all that.

At Mendenhall esp, the bears are more prevalent in the early evening after the mass of day-trippers have left.

 

But you won't be alone, very popular with locals for jogging/walking/dog outing after the mass of day-trippers have left.

Bears do not have a set meal time, they are gorging themselves during the summer and fall months in anticipation of winter hibernation. As long as there are salmon in the river there will be bears.

They try to eat nothing heavy after 9:00pm. It tends to make them gassy.

Was fishing on Russian River in 2007 sleeping in tent in campground and a bear ripped top of tent off and bit me 2 times. Was 4:30 AM so I must have been considered breakfast? I guess tasting bad is a good thing!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:
