Full price for a 20 month toddler really?

Recommended Posts

Is it true you pay full adult price for a 20 month toddler and there are no child discounts? I understand that 2years and above pay full but not a toddler seems a bit silly as really what are they going to be eating?

If the child is the third person in the cabin there is a discount depending on the type of cabin and where the cruise is going to.

It´s correct there is no Discount.

Not sure what Kind of Discount you expect in regards of eating Food onboard. The $ amount for Food is a very minimal percentage of your cruise fare.

The toddler will be a Soul onboard and Count towards the max. passenger Count. However the toddler won´t generate much onboard Revenue.

ETA: They had some Kids sail free rates in the past.

We were recently on Explorer and paid the 3rd and 4th person per room rate (which I think is a 25% reduction on the 1st person room rate). We paid the same price for the toddler and older child even though the facilities for them are unbelievably different. On Explorer the toddler can't go into any of the pools and there are no nursery facilities.

I've booked a family cruise on Oasis for Easter week and our toddler granddaughter is paying $649 as a 3rd occupant which equates to 35% discount vs the 2nd passenger after $400 resident discount and 53% without the discount. However, think about this, a few months later, she will be paying airline flight cost the same as an adult. lol

My children were eating normal food at 6-9 months, so yes, a 20 month old will consume food (and quite possibly milk).

The main reason there is no discount is that people will pay the fare. Also, the ship can only sell so many berths and all persons (no matter what age) count against that number. During the summer there are probably many children on RCCL that are under 2 years - company won't absorb that big of a hit. I would suggest that you maybe look at another ship that would be more fun for your toddler, but sometimes that's not an option.

Hope you enjoy your trip - I know the toddler will:D.

I travel solo and usually have to pay full price for my invisible companion who doesn't eat, drink, add to wear and tear, make a mess, use the facilities or cause any trouble. If they charged less for a toddler, I'd just book a cabin for me and a toddler instead of paying solo supplement.

the first two people in cabin pay full price regardless of age. persons #3 and up in a cabin pay less, but not always a lot less.

age has nothing to do with it. it is based on the number of life boat seats.

a few lines offer lower rates for young children. sail on them.

it has nothing to do with how much they eat, either. every person on board generates a mess( and sorry but a toddler generates a helluva bigger mess than most adults, even the drunk ones). they also Do not generate revenue in the casinos, or the bars, which is where much of the profit is realized.

children do not deserve discounts just because they are children.

And so would a mom or dad travelling with their toddler. ;)

Not sure I understand your response.

Solo cruisers pay the two person rate (less taxes).

A mom or dad would pay for themselves plus the toddler ......they are paying the two person rate, or if both parents cruise the three person rate. The toddler is a "person" ..... Eats, makes a mess, takes up lifeboat room, etc.

Solo cruisers get nothing for their "extra" cost.

It a solo cruiser books a cabin for 2, then they earn double points up to a JS and then triple in a JS and above.

Personally I'm going to insist on getting two seats in the lifeboat seeing as how I've paid for them - two seats beside each other ;)

Well, you could view it that each paying person gets a point, so if I've paid for two, I get one, and my invisible friend gets one.

If a cabin has 4 people in it, each of those people get a point, even though people 3 & 4 have probably paid a little less.

The fact of the matter is that the ships are only certified for a certain capacity and the toddler is taking one of the spots. RCL could have sold that spot to someone else that could have resulted in additional revenue for RCL. Perhaps not a big deal if there was only one toddler on board, but if RCL didn't charge for them there would be a lot more and a definite impact to the bottom line.

Eh, you lot chose to breed.

The Adventure Ocean staff aren't there for there of the the kindness of their own hearts. Also, contrary to what I've seen on this thread (which makes me question some of your parenting skills) children of all ages require food and drink.

If it eats, poops and uses ships resources then it has to be paid for.

At Port: "Yeah, sorry the toddler couldn't come - he was finishing his PhD and couldn't afford the downtime"

Maybe the 3rd person discount is based on stateroom price, but for our cruise, the 2nd person's price is half of the 1st (that was supposedly a "sale price") but the 3rd person (our adult granddaughter) was less than 25% of the price of the 1st person, actually a 77% discount.

Maybe yours, but not mine. Not all kids are destructive and messy.

no kids here, thankyewverymuch.

diaper disposal ALONE is enough.....

so you don't think the extra work generated by cleaning up after ground in cracker crumbs is worth it? or the fact that the wait staff will provide toddler friendly items to eat, fawn all over them to the point of creepiness and generally go over and above to spoil them rotten is worth the cost?

then do not sail until they are old enough in your mind to warrant paying the price.

funny how when out in public( restaurants, etc) I seldom, if ever see parents clean up after their kids. But man do they demand that their kids eat free or gets a cheaper price because they are only kids.

Kids are expensive.
