NCL Vs. other lines drastic changes

The no fireworks is not a big deal for me since I have seen them a few times and never impressed with them but it was cool to see them in the middle of the ocean. I wouldn't be too worked up about them taking that away

The service fee increase is not a big deal. It had been the same price for a few years and probably needed to be raised some. They should of just done one increase at once but it's no biggie that they did it on two separate occasions.

Going back to the subject of this post, many of the changes being made by NCL are not discussed here because most posts that bring up certain subjects are promptly deleted.

 

My future with NCL cruises may hinge on my experience on the cruise I have booked in order to use my last cruise deposit.

 

The casino is off my list of things I will do because of some confidential info I received.

Another factor in my decision will be how my friends are being treated. I regret having to part ways with some of them, but I also have kept in touch with some who have moved to other lines, and they keep in touch with some who are still at NCL. Networking with these people gives me info that will also affect my decision about NCL.

 

I know some of you don't care, but it is important to me !!

I think the room service menus is an improvement in what they had offered before but there is a cost to have it delivered which is no big deal to me if I was not in a suite.
I've never done room service on a cruise, but I also thought the items they added were an improvement and might try room service on my December cruise.

The new menus may be an improvement, but the selections simply put them in line with other lines' free menus. It was my own ignorance I guess, but I hadn't checked the pre-change menu, so I was pretty surprised that these were the "improvements," and for a cost no less.

It was pretty bad - not much was on it. It was a little pamphlet that had about 3 sandwiches. Hamburger, hot dog, water-down chicken soup, fruit salad and alots of extra-charged items like carviar, cheese platter, soda, wine. The Carnival room service menu is way better than old NCL one - the new $7.95 menu is vast improvement.

This is where a difference in opinions comes into play....some will consider it an improvement and some won't. Thankfully, we all don't like the same things.

 

I think it also depends on what you're used to. If you've sailed NCL primarily, the new menu might be worth the charge. If, like me, you're a first timer on NCL coming from Princess, paying for things which were free on Princess doesn't seem worth it.

I don't sail only on NCL, I also cruise on Crystal and Celebrity (have also been on Royal Caribbean, Princess, Costa and others). I liked some of the options on NCL's menu and really don't have an issue paying for it (my opinion, others feel differently), just like I would have to do in hotels where they charge a service charge. I would personally like for the fares to be the lowest they can be and then have costs for "choice" items and I consider room service a "choice" item. Edited by NLH Arizona

I consider it an improvement and many others have expressed it also or considered it a non issue to them. So their opinions count just as much as the naysayers.

 

How did you like your room service options that you purchased? Were they tasty? Hot and quick service?

I haven't tried them yet since I haven't been onboard since the changes but looking at the menu it is an improvement from previous room service menus. I will find out from family when on board since they will order room service. I will go to cagneys only for breakfast. Can't beat a breakfast in cagneys!

I thought you said you sailed in suites on NCL? In which case the room service fees do not apply. I would imagine it is quite easy to say you don't mind paying for something if in fact you never have to.

No, all that did was bring NCL inline to what was being offered by their competitors, however, NCL decided to add an insanely high price to those who want or need room service. Why should a passenger who is not feeling well have to pay for room service and then a $7.95 delivery fee? Who should a parent who has a disabled child that just wants to stay in the room have to pay that? I think its ridiculous. Family members who sail sometimes with us has a son who has downs, sometimes its just easier, less stressful, and more comfortable for him to be able to get something like he can have back home from the room service menu. He can't go to the buffet to get his own food, he can't go to another venue to get his food, he is not capable of getting it himself. Now my family members are forced to pay a ridiculous price and are now inconvenienced. If one wants to go eat in the MDR, then the other parent has to stay behind with him...that parent has no option to go to the buffet because he can't be left alone. I get where it truly affects people. We like to think the world is this great place, yet you enter a MDR or specialty restaurant with someone who has a noticeable disability and the looks of almost the entire restaurant come your way for the entire length of time your in there (this is true on any line), but NCL is the only one that puts a charge on room service during a normal time of day.

Only problem here is while NCL has added "choice" items, they have not lowered fares. In most cases they are much higher than previous years.

And waste a table for a hungry family.

 

What a terribly selfish program NCL has implemented.

 

I don't see it as that way. With this program it is possible they could get the people in and out faster who don't want a full meal. I'm talking the people who used to have to purchase a full meal because that's the way it was sold with appetizers, entrees, and desserts and now can just purchase the courses that they want appetizer & entrée or entrée and dessert or just one of the courses. This would get them in and out much faster allowing more to dine there. I personally like the ala carte option. Especially since I never felt I was getting my money's worth out of since I physically can't eat all those courses in one sitting.
