We will be in ANC for the last night of our cruise tour. Looking at taking a 5 pm flight out of Anchorage to get home. When would we have to be out of the hotel and what is a good itinerary to do until time to go to the airport. Princess is providing the shuttle. Thanks for any info on this.

Check out time is probably 11:00. You need to leave for the airport around 2:00, you can leave your luggage with the bellman. There is plenty to do in Anchorage near the hotel to kill that amount of time.

If you have your transfer through Princess, they will let you know what time their shuttle will take you to the airport.

Princess transfers will get you to the airport way too early. The hotel will keep your bags after you check out. Just get a cab. You won't be able to check in at the ticket counter till 3pm. Airports aren't fun anymore. For a nice walk, turn right from the hotel on 5th Ave (if memory serves) and walk down to Elderberry Park, on Cook Inlet. Humpy's has a great lunch. Enjoy Anchorage!

You could head to the Log Cabin Visitor Center for suggestions if you’re still undecided when you get here. Their website below. They have shuttles that depart from there to the Ulu Factory, Zoo, Alaska Native Heritage Center and the trolley. The museum is good and if you do both the museum and Heritage Center you can save some money by purchasing a combo ticket for $29.95. The trolley will give you a good 50 minute look of the downtown area and also goes out to Earthquake Park. http://www.anchorage.net

I don't find airports that bad- I spend a lot of time in them. But Anchorage Airport- in my opinion, is a gem, they have a LOT of artwork that is very enjoyable for me to see, along with the taxidermy that is impressive. The ally between the airport and car rental is excellent.

Normally check in counters open at least 2, sometimes 3 or more, hours before departure. If the OP is flying Alaska Air, they will be open all afternoon and you can check in up to 4 hours in advance. With the long check-in and security lines, arriving at the airport 2 hours before departure is reasonable, unless the passenger is flying first class or has TSA Pre Check, both of which can reduce the line waiting substantially.
