witt's end Posted August 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2015 We leave in 2 sleeps for London to board Voyager on Monday for 12 days. We booked over a year ago to get our favourite location; aft facing Penthouse C. This cruise has been sold out for quite some time. The weather looks more than dicey - did any of you see either British Open? - rain and cold! It's odd packing cool weather clothing. Only one pair of shorts, no sundresses, many layers topped off with rain gear. sigh! I just don't want chilly wet weather to prevent us from enjoying everything this great itinerary has to offer. We are from Vancouver so we will be prepared! I will be happy to answer your questions but I am not prepared to spend my valuable vacation time making this thread a priority. Also, if ever I feel that I need to duck from comments that I know could come my way, I will bid you all au revoir! Until then, ask away! In preparation for your first question... we love the aft cabins particularly because of their huge covered balconies and we are not sensitive to the vibration that apparently exists there. brightonbuoy Posted August 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2015 We aren't having the best of summers.....but I've been in shorts and tshirts since beginning of June! Average temperatures in the seventies. But definitely bring rain gear! Enjoy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
liptastic Posted August 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Hi Witts end , we are in the far north of Scotland. It's been a warm week with good sunshine, but had heavy rain start of week, but it was showers but heavy showers. Yesterday was glorious and a long day. Today rain. I think you will get as many good days of Sun mixed with rain, but yes bring the rain coats. It's not been cold though. Look forward to hearing your reports , and have a wonderful cruise. Lots to do in Edinburgh just now as the festival/fringe is on giving a huge variety of shows for all to enjoy. Regards, Jean. Techno123 Posted August 14, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2015 The whole of Northern Europe has been cool and rainy for the last few weeks. Got off the voyager following a Baltic cruise last Wednesday and wore the rain coat almost every day! It was like being at home - all everyone talked about was how awful the weather was 😀 cool and rainy in North Wales today but the forecast (if we believe it) is for improving days and cool nights
Rare RachelG Posted August 14, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2015 hope your weather improves! But have a great trip no matter.
Pamela1 Posted August 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Hi, as others have said, you really need to take a rain proof jacket as it pretty much rains a lot up here. :( The temperature is quite warm though so your shorts will come in handy. Hope you enjoy the U.K and beyond and looking forward to hearing all about your adventures. Pam.

Rare WesW Posted August 15, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 15, 2015 Katie & John/witt's end; Ida and I hope y'all have a terrific Northern Europe Voyager cruise. Two suggestions; first in Belfast recommend for a pint--head to the Crown Salon on Victoria street--service with a smile: Katie; when you visit Dublin, believe y'all (esp Big John) would enjoy the Guinness Factory tour. If so, be sure to enjoy a pint at the top of the Guinness glass (Gravity Bar), pls see:
Rare RachelG Posted August 15, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 15, 2015 Agree with both of wes' suggestions, and I don't even like beer.
Travelcat2 Posted August 15, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 15, 2015 The Guinness Factory was a lot of fun but we learned that the elevator only goes up - not down (unless it has changed in the past few years). This wasn't too big of a deal, however, after walking around Dublin for hours, it would have been nice to have an elevator that goes both ways:-) If you plan on visiting the Guinness Factory, strongly suggest that you book and pay for your tickets online. When we got to the factory, there was an extremely long line that we were able to bypass since we already had tickets. What we really loved was the Jameson Distillery in Dublin. I read about their whiskey tasting that takes place at the conclusion of the tour. Being a woman, I knew that I would be picked. Sure enough - I was (and didn't even like Irish whiskey at that time). After blind tasting around 4 or 5 different whiskies, I tried one that tasted really awful. It ended up being a very popular bourbon made in the U.S. Ever since that trip, when I want a good Irish whiskey, it is always Jameson. Note: We also visited Bushmills in Northern Ireland - another lovely place. The biggest surprise for us was watching them bottle "Jameson" at the Bushmills distillery. Apparently truckloads of Jameson are shipped up north for bottling. It is nice to see competitors helping each other out! Whether it is raining or not -- you should really enjoy this cruise. witt's end Posted August 17, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Hi all! We stayed at the Landmark Hotel in a beautiful suite, had an excellent breakfast and an uneventful 2 hour coach ride to Southampton. Embarkation was swift and we were in our rooms efficiently. Because the luggage was sent hours before the coaches, it arrived in our rooms before we did. We decided to have dinner in Sette Marie tonight followed by the introductory show. We were underwhelmed by the vocalists but Aaron and Prudence gave us a snippet of what we can expect from these talented aerialists. The casino wasn't good to us but that's part of the fun! We are happy to have a sea day tomorrow to settle in and reduce the jet lag. It is great to be back on board!
Gcto Posted August 17, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Wes, and where is your suggestion for new "Dubliners" to take the almost poured glass of nectar (Guiness) and take a premature sip.... :-) I actually had a bar tender whack one of my colleagues hands with a stick more than ones... :)
Techno123 Posted August 18, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 18, 2015 Witt's end, it's a shame you didn't get the chance to try the Landmark's Sunday Champagne brunch - we always try to visit when we are in the big smoke and it is usually booked up months in advance - absolutely delicious :D
witt's end Posted August 21, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted August 21, 2015 Hi everyone. Sorry it has been so long since I updated you. We have been busy! All is good on the Voyager. The Internet was spotty all day as we rounded the north side of Scotland. Tomorrow we are off to the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh castle. The excursion was sold out so we booked it independently. It will be a long day! The food and entertainment are all of Regent's high standard. We have dined once at Sette Marie, once at Prime 7, 2 times at Signatures and once at Compass Rose. We cannot complain about the service or the great food. My DH won the blackjack tourney today and so far we haven't given it back to the casino but time will tell! We have nothing but positive comments and would be pleased to answer any questions.

Pamela1 Posted August 22, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Hi, Hope you enjoyed your day in Edinburgh and it stayed dry for you. :) We went to Greenock today to se the ship but the port security was pretty tight (excellent) and we just got see a glimpse of the Voyager. We will see her properly in a few weeks time. :D Enjoy the rest of your cruise. Pam.
witt's end Posted August 23, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted August 23, 2015 Last night we took a private tour to the Military Tattoo that included dinner with Scotch tasting and excellent seats. It was a highlight for all four of us! There are two shows on Saturday nights and the last show would have been a wet one! The rain started as the lone piper was closing the show. Our tour today is a wet walk of the pubs of Belfast. The forecast does not indicate that the rain will let up so our plans might change to a visit to the Titanic experience. I can see it from our suite. I will have an answer to the bike question for you today.
witt's end Posted August 24, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted August 24, 2015 Tonight was a highlight to sail out of Liverpool and have the Beatles night in the Horizon Lounge! Our cruise is winding down and we have had a great vacation. The service is stellar and the food is exceptional. We are very happy with Regent and this itinerary.
