Nightclub on the Escape ?

There isn't any specific club designated as a nightclub or disco. I am guessing that the 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar might take the place of a nightclub type scene, but who knows. The Skyline Bar is in the spot that was Bliss Ultra Lounge on Getaway and Breakaway, but it is different. It still might work like a nightclub, but it remains to be seen.

Agreed, the pictures make it look like Skyline's the place, there's a dance floor. 5 O'Oclock Somewhere should be hopping too.

Ok Thx. Sad.. So a great Ship and they doesn't have a fix Nightclub..

We will see :)

The dedicated "nightclub" spaces on sister ships Getaway and Breakaway were empty 22 out of 24 hours each day, and very tiny anyway. It was a huge waste. I'm sure whatever they decide to do will be an improvement.

Agreed! There is no reason the night club can't be used for other things during the day - that would be a huge waste of space. I've never been on a ship where the "nightclub space" wasn't used for other activities during the day.

Bliss on GETAWAY was sort of lame. Looked a little like an empty warehouse but I suppose that was the idea. It was used for other gatherings during the day. I rarely went.

Bliss on EPIC was awesome. On the crossing earlier this year it was very busy and packed almost every night. It got plenty of use, and was also used for other events during the day (like the CC M&G). I went every night.

It will be interesting to see how the nightclub on ESCAPE plays out.

Wow the Epic Nightclub is awesome. Thx for the Picture

You're welcome. Bliss on EPIC is probably the best in the fleet. It includes bowling on one side and game machines on the other, with the main part of the club in the center. The layout is similar on the Jewel Class ships but I felt EPIC's was best of all.

For whatever reason NCL went in a different direction with Bliss on the "away" ships. No more bowling or games, just a very dark empty space that is used for the nightclub. Not much atmosphere and more of an afterthought it seems. It would not surprise me if these spaces were utilized for something different during future dry-docks.

On ESCAPE NCL has decided to eliminate Bliss all together, so it's sort of a mystery where the late-night crowd will hang out to drink and dance the night away. We will find out soon enough.

I'm on the maiden crossing next month so I'll be sure to report back. It's probably going to be in the 5 O'clock Somewhere bar/lounge or the Skyline Bar off the casino but we don't know for sure. Also I'm not sure how either of those venues will work as a nightclub. I can't imagine they will be as good as Bliss on EPIC but I'll hold out judgement till I experience it in person.

It's interesting to note that Royal Caribbean has also eliminated the dedicated nightclub space off its newest ships. The Quantum Class uses The Music Hall for the nightclub (works ok), and the new HARMONY OF THE SEAS will use Dazzles since the dedicated Blaze nightclub is being utilized for something else. Also on existing Voyager/Freedom Class ships, the nightclub is being turned into a speciality dining room. I think the Viking Crown is the replacement but I'm not sure.

So it's not just NCL. This seems to be a bit of a trend as cruise lines try to increasingly maximize revenue in the existing space they have.

I forgot to mention that Carnival is doing the same thing, although their solution is a little different. On CARNIVAL SUNSHINE (formal CARNIVAL DESTINY) the nightclub was removed and the show lounge remodeled so it could transform into the nightclub after the shows are finished. Apparently they close a curtain around the upper level and remove the chairs on the lower level to make a dance floor. Seems like it would still be a cavernous space for a ship nightclub, but I guess it's working ok as Carnival is moving forward with the same arrangement on their new build CARNIVAL VISTA.

Maybe the days of dedicated nightclubs on ships are over?

RCL is doing away with their clubs on the Freedom class also. They did take up a lot of real estate spanning 2 floors.

I would think the Spice area may be a little chilly and windy during winter sailings, but I suppose if you make good use out of that UBP you wouldn't mind :o

I agree. I enjoy them as well and feel they still have their place, especially on lines like Carnival, NCL, and Royal Caribbean. I can understand if lines like Oceania and Holland America do away with them but the mass-market lines are different and the demand still exists.

I think these lines will still offer a nightclub style space, it just won't be dedicated anymore. Something else by day and into the early evening, then transform into the club around 10 or 11pm. Probably not as good as a dedicated, custom designed space but at least it's something.

Here is something interesting;

8. Skyline Bar & Lounge

How do you turn a casino from a straightforward gambling destination into a full-on entertainment venue? On Escape, Norwegian added the Skyline lounge, which is open to the casino. It features cushy red velvet banquettes and an expansive bar; it promises not only to offer a relaxation component but also has a dance floor for night owls. As well, look for tabletop poker screens and a quartet of LED flat-screens that showcase a rotating visual collection of the world's most gorgeous skylines.

Margaritaville is the actual space that would be the popular night club area. The 5 o'clock somewhere bar is just a small bar on the ship. You are also correct that they envision the Skyline Bar being a "night club" type area, but it is just an open space so who knows if that will work out. We will see if this lack of a dedicated space works out for them. Hopefully there are enough other places that are open late that it doesn't matter. It could actually be an improvement by having several different spaces open later for different tastes in atmosphere....

Margaritaville takes the place of the Flamingo Bar & Grill on GETAWAY. I don't think it will be anything like a nightclub. For one it's outside (although covered) and more of a mini-buffet with bar that will mainly serve burgers. NCL actually created this space to help alleviate crowding in the main buffet. I don't think there will be any dance floor or anything like a DJ unless the space is dramatically changed on ESCAPE which I don't think it will be.

The 5 O'Clock Somewhere Lounge and bar is actually pretty big. It takes the place of the Grammy Experience Lounge on GETAWAY. It has plenty of room for a DJ, small band, and dance floor. It's also fully enclosed which is good for a nightclub. There is no bar on GETAWAY just bar service, but a bar could easily be added on ESCAPE and share the service space with the Tobacco Road bar which will be just beside it.

Hum....who know...i cant tell anymore. I could have sworn one of the groups that visited the ship said 5 o'clock was just a small bar but who knows.....I will find out soon enough :-)

Here is a link to a picture of Margaritaville....it looks like it is inside. Maybe just an old render?
