So is Princess leaving Texas port in after April 2016?

I do not see any cruises in 2017 leaving from Houston Bayport or Galveston.

I am really sad about that! We mainly cruise out of Texas. If they do not like Bayport sure wish they would cruise out of Galveston.

Sadly they are leaving Bayport (Houston). They signed a contract which had really nice terms but now that the contract is about to expire, they have decided to not renew and take the ship from the Texas coast. Princess was here back in the early part of the century but left after the 2006 season. Looks like they are going to do it again. They may have had a hard time filling the ship and there are more lucrative ports to use it. We can drive to the port which makes it really nice not having the airport dance. We are now back to Carnival and RCI ships in Galveston. :(

Yes, Carnival, Rccl, and then Disney for a while. Carnival seems to be doing a huge shift in their ships in Galveston. Hope they are newer and better ships and some longer and more varied itineraries.

With redeployment of several ships to Asia and Australia, Princess really no longer has a ship available to sail out of Texas.

I personally did not like the Houston experience. The port staff were wonderful but the travel to the airports long and difficult. A lot of delays as well.

One of the primary reasons I like sailing out of Houston is the price. I think those low prices are all you need to know about why they are leaving.

My primary reason is the location of the port, 8.5 miles from home.

unfortunately, it is again "follow the money". It looks like Princess just isn't filling the ships without serious cabin pricing reductions. I imagine that the fog and channel oil spill have also created a reputation where many cruisers who would have considered a Texas port just don't want to chance their vacation being disrupted.

 

Being slightly over a 3 hour drive to Houston's port, we love the ability to cruise without adding the increasing airline fares, and the illnesses associated with those flying virus incubators.

 

The delays don't bother us either when they occur (we've had one in Houston, and had one previously in Galveston before Princess stopped sailing from there). Retirement does wonders for reducing schedule stress when airplanes are not involved. ;)

 

We are looking forward to sailing some of the different itineraries being offered out of Houston. Just waiting for the right time to book...

I think not being able to fill the ship has a lot to deal with it. I've got a cruise booked for December out of Houston for $650 per person for an aft balcony. That's equal or less than Carnival prices out of Galveston.
