Adventure of the Seas review January 16-23

Great news. I was wondering this same thing as I'm tossing around the Adventure as one option for myself in 2017 but was worried about the negative reviews of her.

I would not be concerned about negative reviews. We've cruised on Adventure every year for the last several years, and she has been in fine shape, with an excellent crew.

I wouldn't put too much weight on reviews. They have their place. AOS was a fine ship and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The best thing you can do is to make up your mind to enjoy the cruise, and make it a mission to find reasons to do so.

Thanks for the review. We are on AOS in just under 6 weeks, but on a different itinerary.

Wondering if you get the chance...curious as to exactly when does Mercedes (CD) term end (supposedly mid-March), and does she know who will take over as Cruise Director thereafter?

What I've read on other posts is that Dan Whitney will take over starting either the March 5 or March 12 sailing.

After checking in, we found a place to get a burger; walked to Walgreens to get an 8-pack of soda (I put it in checked baggage with no problem. Last March I had to go to the “naughty room” –all was fine when they found it was soda. I think they may have been stricter last time because it was spring break).

You can pack soda in your luggage? Hmmmm. I don't drink much but I like to have a soda with dinner. I know everyone talks about bringing water on but if I do that then I don't need a soda package. I guess the only issue may be having room in my luggage.

Cans usually work best.

Annie,

It's a small world. My wife and I are booked for a B2B in 9288 in six weeks. Could you tell me if the odor from the bathroom was a big deal? How was the plumbing working for the rest of your vacation?

Thanks!

We didn't smell an odor. Our stateroom attendant told us that there was a cork in the drain opening because there was an odor (I think several cabins had this "fix"). We only had an issue with the toilet - it would (slowly) fill then could overflow. That was fixed the second or third day (and no big deal to us - it only overflowed once, which is when we noticed the drain opening had a cork in it).

I've always brought a 6- or 8- pack of diet pepsi on. I usually share a soda at dinnertime (before or after dinner) with my husband, and I don't like diet coke. There's never been a problem with bringing it on, although I know the rules are you're not suppose to. I've also purchased one or two at various ports and brought them back on the ship (unopened).

January 20th: Martinique- I tried to find something to do here. Unfortunately, by the time I found tours, they were booked. If we visit again, I’ll be sure to book a tour early. This is what I found for information (just in case anyone else is having difficulty finding something to do in Martinique):

Karambole Tours: http://www.karamboletoursmartinique.com/infos/english.html?lang=fr

I contacted Christelle regarding the Pilet et face tour which is $65pp or 55euro. It is a guided tour to Alma River, a small waterfall, the ruins in St. Pierre and the rum distillery. Snacks and drinks included. Christelle did respond quickly, but they were booked for that day.

Kata Mambo: http://www.karamboletoursmartinique.com/infos/english.html?lang=fr

I contacted them about the North Caribbean ½ day sail which is 45euro per person. They were quick also (next day) about getting back to me, but were full for that day.

The third person I contacted was Meri from Tours by Locals. https://www.toursbylocals.com/MartiniquePrivateTours

Meri did have the day open, but the cost is for the tour up to seven people is $450. I really didn’t want to be responsible for finding four or five others to join us on such short notice, or having to pay that much for just two of us. We were going to go to Mt. Pelee for a short hike and see St. Pierre. I believe she will customize a tour for your group also if asked. If I came across it earlier I could have asked others on the roll call, I’ll know better next time!

So, we ended up doing an on-your-own walking tour that was not that great. I found it on a website. The fort was closed (because of renovations and the Paris attacks, we were told), the cathedral was under renovation, so we stopped at the library (beautiful) and the cultural museum ($4 euro each – and they only take euros). We also walked through La Savane Park. We tried the wifi at McDonalds, did not work. So, we shopped at the booths at the port before heading back. I do have to say, the people with red vests (tourism employees) were very friendly and ready to assist.

Back at the ship we grabbed a late lunch from the Windjammer- which was good. I liked the nachos “station” they had set up. It was a pizza and nacho day.

Tonight was Quest, which we missed. In fact we’ve never been to Quest (I know, shocking!) We will have to get there one of these cruises.

January 21st: Barbados- Barbados was tied with St. Maarten as the highlight of the cruise. We booked with Calabaza, and it was wonderful. We were picked up at the ship and a taxi took us the few minute ride to the boat. We put our shoes in a basket and boarded. I think there were eleven passengers and three crewmembers. We had a warm welcome from the crew, offering drinks and banana bread (yummy!!). The boat was well-keep, very clean. There were two snorkel stops, one at a shipwreck, then to the turtles. The first stop was busy, three or four other ships were there, but we saw quite a few fish, and a sunken ship. On the second stop, we saw a couple turtles, and in no time it was time to board and head out. We were served a delicious lunch buffet-style. There was plenty of food and drinks. Then there was a nice tour before heading back.

I just seen your posting, and we are getting ready to do the AOTS the first part of April. I am just about ready to walk out the door from work, so I hope to read your review tomorrow. :)

When I get back, I plan to do a review also. I have been reading so many negative ones:(, so I am thining POSITIVE that we are going to enjoy this ship/cruise.

well put! i've taken to skimming over the reviews that begin with mentioning intolerably hard beds and peeling paint.

OP thank you for the scans. Just wish I could find a TR for the ship's other itinerary.

any luck in the casino?:D

Hello again Annie.

Thanks for posting the reply about Stateroom 9288 - puts my mind at ease.

Can you recall how much you paid pp for the Calabaza lunch excursion in Barbados?

Thanks!

We were also on this sailing. Had a wonderful week. We also did Calabaza. We were probably on the other boat that day. They have two. Each one takes a max of 12 people. It cost $110 a person. It was a great day. I did a review of it under Calabaza. If you are interested book it early. They do sell out!!
